The day after talking to Pike, Scanlan decided it was probably time to actually talk to everyone else. He had mixed feelings considering he knew a whole bunch more than literally everyone else. And also some of them were going to be pissed at him. Again.

Several days of rest had done the Gnome good and he moved to sit down in the lobby. A public place was probably good in case there was a huge fight, right? Settling down on one of the couches, Scanlan spoke into his earring.

Hey, so, you all probably heard I'm here already, but here's my official hello and I'm in the lobby if you want to say hi.

Then he picked up his lute and started playing a little, but he was mostly tuning and fixing - it was as if being in a big battle against a god could damage your instruments or something.

"Which is... understandable." He still was a little tense as he sat there. "I'm trying my best to make amends. It's pretty hard to when I have all these memories and they don't."

"I also have memories they do not share," she observed and took a seat beside him. "I knew that you had returned but not how it had happened. Of all of us, Zahra comes from the latest time. Did you see her at the battle?"

"I did." He nodded. "They showed up on Wyverns and got a round off before they were paralyzed and fell to the ground. I'm just glad they survived."

Lillith frowned at that. Of course she knew that Zahra had fallen, because Zahra had told her, but, "How do you know they survived?" she asked, the concern evident in her voice.

He paused. "...Because she's here?" Okay, maybe he didn't really know. "She said she had death ward on, right? So chances are pretty good they're just... really hurt somewhere on the ground." And maybe no bad guy would find them and take advantage of that.

Scanlan frowned for a second. Well shit, he wasn't so certain anymore.

"She knows they were falling, but not what happened after. Kash is from months before that. The battle with Thordak." Lillith pursed her lips and added, "I am from the day before the battle with Vecna. You are the latest, so there is no way to say."

"No one to say if any of us live, really." Venca had made it to Vasselhiem, after all. He sighed. "Well, I'd like to think they did." Zahra and Kashaw falling in battle seemed way too cruel, especially since apparenly Zahra was pregnant. Vox Machina deserved at least one break.

Lillith had considered this question long and often, because what would happen if they all returned home? No one seemed to be aware that the others were missing before they arrived. Had their places been taken by doppelgangers or would they be doubled if they left here? What if they died at home, but not here or vice versa?

She made a moue of frustration. "I do not knowing, but it is a problem for another time. Tell me, Scanlan Shorthalt, why did you leave and, more importantly, why did you return?"

"The short version?" He looked at Lillith and sighed. "I died, felt sorry for myself, needed to be someone better, wanted to be a good father, and needed some space." He paused. It was getting easier to admit after saying all of it so many times. "And I came back to warn them about Vecna and I couldn't quite make myself leave."

"So you admit that you were a selfish, thoughtless, callous ass with no regard for the feelings of your friends?" Lillith studied him keenly.

"I wouldn't say no regards, but yeah, pretty much." Scanlan had felt bad for saying what he did, after he said it, but somehow he wouldn't take most of it back either.

Her gaze narrowed, eyes glowing a fierce watermelon pink. "You understand that should you harm them again, you will make an enemy of me?" Because Scanlan was there. He knew. Lillith dealt with her enemies like Percival.

He hugged his lute a little tighter and nodded first before he spoke. "I don't plan to hurt anyone here."

"Good." Lillith settled herself, curling her tail up over her thighs for comfort while she sat. "Now. How do you plan to make this up to them, hm?"

"Uh..." That caught her off guard a bit. "By.. saying I'm sorry?"

"Words, Scanlan, they are cheap, no?" Especially when it came to the silver-tongued. "I suggest you consider actions, which speak louder. Prove you are a better man than the one who left them."

"Alright. I think I can do that." Scanlan wasn't sure how, but he'd try. "If they let me."

"You do not require permission to be a good man, nor for them to provide opportunities. You will find there are many, here, and--" Lillith gave him a steady, leveling look. "The actions will be all the more impressive if aimed at others from which you have nothing to gain. Trust Vox Machina will notice. Angry they may be, but you are still seen."

She couldn't just let this be easy, could she?

"Alright, Alright. I got it." He almost made a quip about an orphanage, but decided Lillith would not like that joke. "I'll do things. You'll see. You won't have to come threaten me." Probably.

Lillith tilted her head and smiled prettily, letting the tips of her fangs show ever so slightly. "I hope you will do them because you are a better man." But she would accept him doing them out of fear of pain.

"Now, then, a toast, yes? A drink to welcome you properly to the Inn."
