Something about the movement of that curly hair, not unlike her own not-quite-tameable locks, made Corbie smile. She nodded.

And then she turned her attention to the magic.

For a long moment, nothing happened, the girl standing there with one hand held out toward the spot she was striking. The air grew heavy and close in a way that the dryness of the desert didn't allow.

And then there was a great flash of purple light above that came crashing down into the ground. Being the tallest things in range, were it any natural lightning it would have gone straight for her or for Hurley, but it went exactly where she wanted it to go.

Dirt exploded upward and outward, hitting the invisible wall of her containment circle.

Corbie stared in stunned silence. And then she started to laugh. Her knees wobbled and down she went, but she laughed, delighted and almost dazed.
