Check-In: Not-Mother Hen
Kitty sat at the bar with a cup of coffee and her notebook, watching the 'welcoming committee' make themselves busy. Liz was here, as she'd promised Kitty she would be and Kitty gave her a quick smile of encouragement.
One of the worst things about Check-In Days was that you never knew whether it'd be a whole long day of no one arriving, one spectacular fall from the ceiling and dropping dead after another, or anything in between. It made it hard to know what to do with yourself. After awhile, you got used to it and just kept on with whatever you'd do otherwise, and know that if you didn't step up for a new arrival, someone else would. But for someone not used to treating it like a responsibility to be here, especially someone with Liz's anxious need to be perfect at it, Check-In Day could be emotionally exhausting.
So Kitty made sure to have milk warmed for hot cocoa and her plans for the obstacle course handy in case Liz needed something to do with herself. Otherwise, she was working on a modification of Cerebro to see if she could start detecting new arrivals.
[ooc: Regular check-in day gathering post. If you want Kitty, ping me.]

Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Oh? What did I miss?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"I was going to go Captain Dork, but I could probably think of others." He looked Thor over for a moment, assessing him. "Although maybe that would be Stark's title." Captain of the Dorks.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"I see you know me," Thor says with a laugh. "And Stark. I take it you hail from Earth, then?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"I hail from a Earth. But here I hail from a room with a kid who probably wants your autograph." And probably a photo op. Peter would probably faint too.
"Goes by Spider-Man in your world."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Don't know him," he says, because he doesn't. "I hadn't been on Earth for two years until recently."
Until he teleported straight from Nidavellir onto the planet. He hadn't exactly had a chance to get to know everyone personally during or after --
-- after things happened.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Not from Earth, right.
Alec looked at him for a moment. He didn't really seem like a 'god'. Maybe it was a self-imposed god thing. He leaned against a machine and crossed his arms over his chest. "You ever hear of Thanos?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
So when he finally opens his mouth to speak, his answer comes as a single word: "Yes."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Thor's reaction told him more than his words and while he didn't want to feel as confirmed as he was, at least he knew he wasn't being unreasonable, as much as Peter seemed to profess that he was.
"You don't have to give me specifics. Just answer one more thing - Is it as bad as I think it is?" And no one else seems to get it.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"No," he begins, "It won't be. I traveled to Nidavellir to forge a weapon capable of killing him. I will find Thanos and I will kill him."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
'It won't be' tells Alec more than the assertion that he was somehow going to fix it all single-handedly. At least he knew Peter came by this superhero crap honestly now.
"Uh huh." His expression didnt seem to say he completely believed him.
Alec moved to one of the benches, lifted a large 80 lbs plate onto his abdomen, and began doing dips on the side of the bench.
"You have some friends here." He kind of hoped Thor wouldn't be bringing more. Peter might die of a nerdgasm.
Or he'd end up killing Stark.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Do I, now?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"You ever hear of an idiot name Star-Lord and a raccoon with a bad attitude?" It was probably hard to miss both of them, really. Quill was kind of obnoxious and Rocket, was, well, Rocket.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"We met in space," he says, helpfully. "They peeled me off their windshield."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Okay, so Alec liked the guy a little more now that he called Quill a moron. He even cracked a bit of a smile.
"You end up on a lot of people's windshields?" He understood how space worked which meant Thor could withstand a lot of cold and lack of oxygen.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Unconscious, he neglects to say. Still, his words come out as a statement rather than a deliberate attempt to brag.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He finished his set and put the weight on the ground, then sat on the bench. "Ah, that classic story." Of which Alec had no real frame of reference for whatsoever.
"What were they like?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Thor doesn't wait for confirmation. "They were morons," he says. "Everyone but Rabbit and Tree. They came with me to Nidavellir to forge Stormbreaker. I believe the moron was threatened by me. I'm still glad to hear he's alive and well."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Alec had to wonder what it said when someone like Thor calling another person a moron, but Alec was willing not to think to hard on it because it was Quill on the other end.
There were a lot of names that didn't mean much to him. "And storm breaker is...?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
It's only once he hears the distant crash of metal breaking through plaster that he realizes what he just did.
"...sorry," he says to Alec, just as it drives itself through the door, sending splinters of wood flying. It lands soundly in his hand.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Alec looked through the hole that weapon made. Corbie and Regina would probably be upset about that. Alec, however, was not.
He shrugged. "The inn repairs itself. Trust me, I've broken enough shit." His attention moved back to the weapon. "So you made that, huh?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Still, Thor's not about to take full credit for the creation of Stormbreaker. It was a collaborative effort.
"The mold for it was Eitri's," he says, "as were the Uru ingots. Rabbit and I reignited the dying star Nidavellir using his ship and my strength and when the mechanism holding the iris open broke, I held it open long enough for the star to melt the Uru down. Tree gave his arm to make this handle."
Thor casually tosses it so it flips in the air. "It grew back, though," he says.
It's only after the words have left his mouth that it occurs to him that all that remains of Tree is what's in his hand now. Instead of dwelling on that particular factoid, he offers the weapon to Alec.
"Would you like to hold it?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Again there were a lot of words that meant nothing to Alec. He was sure he was supposed to be impressed. Unlike someone else who might oo and ah out of politeness, he just blinked.
But when Thor offered to hold it, there was definitely the urge. He eyed the weapon, the Thor. "It's not going to give me was weird space disease or something, is it?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He eyes Thor for a moment and then stood. "If this turns me into some weird thing or sends thunder through my body.." Well, he'd probably take Rocket's traps that were meant for him and leave them in Thor's room.
Alec held out his hand.
