Check-In: Not-Mother Hen
Kitty sat at the bar with a cup of coffee and her notebook, watching the 'welcoming committee' make themselves busy. Liz was here, as she'd promised Kitty she would be and Kitty gave her a quick smile of encouragement.
One of the worst things about Check-In Days was that you never knew whether it'd be a whole long day of no one arriving, one spectacular fall from the ceiling and dropping dead after another, or anything in between. It made it hard to know what to do with yourself. After awhile, you got used to it and just kept on with whatever you'd do otherwise, and know that if you didn't step up for a new arrival, someone else would. But for someone not used to treating it like a responsibility to be here, especially someone with Liz's anxious need to be perfect at it, Check-In Day could be emotionally exhausting.
So Kitty made sure to have milk warmed for hot cocoa and her plans for the obstacle course handy in case Liz needed something to do with herself. Otherwise, she was working on a modification of Cerebro to see if she could start detecting new arrivals.
[ooc: Regular check-in day gathering post. If you want Kitty, ping me.]

Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
For a split second when Thor's hand left the hammer, Alec held onto it like it was a regular weapon and then it plummeted to the floor like the floor was magnetic and Alec was flipped onto his back. He groaned.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Sorry, I should have warned you -- it's a little heavy."
Thor once again picks up his weapon with considerable ease, then extends a hand to Alec for him to take.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He considered flipping up to standing on his own, but decided against it and took Thor by the forearm. He decided, however, to see exactly what sort of strength Thor had by purposefully pulling on his hand with more force than a regular human should have as if Alec didn't know how to use a hand to get up without trying to pull the other down with him.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Alec could admire, maybe a little, a guy's fight to stay upright. He decided to go the opposite route and in a fluid movement went from half sitting to a full flip over Thor's head, Alec's body straight and effortless like he was some sort of gymnast. He landed on the back side of Thor with a bit of a cocky grin. "Thanks for helping me up."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
It's a compliment. Thor leans leans down to pick up Stormbreaker, then rises, rolling his shoulders with an audible crack.
"Are you human?" he asks. There are plenty of people who aren't but appear human -- himself included.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Depends on who you are." Which was true. "I'm at least part human." And part cat and owl, at least. There were probably other things mixed up in his DNA cocktail, but it wasn't like Manticore was pretty forthcoming with their formulas.
"Can't make thunder-" He almost said out of my ass but stopped because he kind of liked the guy even though he was from Peter's world and was no doubt going to make Peter get all excited again. "Nice trick though, with the axe. If you can convince a girl named Kitty to do that, I'll owe you whatever favour you want, as long as I get to watch."
Or Regina. Both would be amusing.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Ah, Jane.
"It'll have to be sooner rather than later, then," Thor says. "Once word gets around, people'll only try to pick it for fun. Like at parties."
That happened once.
"So is this what you do for fun here?" Thor says, extending an arm out at the gym. Not that he had a problem with working out, but he'd get bored eventually if that was the only thing he had to do.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He glanced around. "Work out? Nah. For fun I drink and try to get drunk." And often didn't succeed. "Or I mess with the staff here." But people frowned at that so he couldn't do it as often.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"You done here?" he asks. "I could use a drink."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He paused and looked at Thor, then walked over and reached for his t-shirt to pull it on. "Yeah, I could drink." Much to Peter's chagrin. "You met the bartenders yet? They'll all pretty hot."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He has a hard time finding that particularly attractive.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Hell no. The opposite." Well, usually. "They're people like us. Most of the people here end up doing something around the inn like this is our normal day jobs because I guess they need to feel like they're normal." He shrugged. He made a 'follow me' gesture and headed toward the bar.
Bo was standing behind the bar when they came in, taking a shift to relieve Kitty for a while. When Bo saw Thor, her entire focus fell on him. Her eyes turned liquid chocolate and her once neutral expression was not sultry and 'come hither'. The way she looked at Thor seemed to suggest and promise a lot of fantastic things she could do to him and his body.
"How's it going?" She leaned against the counter, her cleavage prominent in the new position, though her outfit of leather often made her assets pretty obvious anyways.
Alec saddled up by the bar. It was so obvious that Bo was staring that he thought she might as well just jump Thor right now. "Yeah, I'm good too, thanks for asking Bo."
Bo's gaze didn't break from Thor. She wet her lips, her tongue seductively tracing her bottom lip with even more promises.
Alec saw this and sigh. "Okay, okay. Keep it in your pants." He was saying that to Bo. He waved his hand in front of her gaze. "I thought you swore off other men."
That seemed to do it for her. Bo blinked and finally realized Alec was there too. She could practically feel the pull to the other guy beside Alec. She took a deep breath. "Sorry, my shift just ended. " It most certainly had not. "You know your way around here anyways." She gave Alec a bit of a smile and then, without looking at Thor again, excused herself.
Alec watched her leave, partially because it was always enjoyable to watch Bo leave, with the way her body naturally moved.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"What is your job here?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Sometimes I babysit." He reached for two bottles of Whiskey and held one out to Thor. Then grabbed two glasses. He poured his own almost up to the top. "Sometimes I help out at the bakery."
He shrugged. "Sometimes I'm not a team player."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Thor takes the drink into hand and pours himself a glass.
"Why aren't you a team player?" he asks. "Team let you down? Or are you not a people person?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Worse, there are teenagers." Miguel, maybe, was a 'kid', but he would lump them all into the teen category now.
He shrugged at the question. "A little bit of A and a little bit of B. Plus a lot of people here are really idealistic." And he was not. Not really.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Thor takes a long drink of his beverage, then tips it slightly towards Alec.
"There's this one man I met recently who helped me to find my father, who could materialize a beer out of thin air," he says, "and magically refilled it."
It was the greatest display of magic he'd seen in his 1500 years alive.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"You're a glass half full kind of person, aren't you?" Alec was a glass half empty, that was certain. He looked Thor up and down.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"My brother, Loki --" Thor feels his chest clench tightly at the thought of his brother; Thor wasn't sure if he was ever going to be over that. He'd mourned his brother before, but it was different this time. "-- thought we couldn't defeat my half-sister. He wanted to stay in Sakaar and take the place over instead."
Thor had suggested that he stay there; the place was made for him. Now Thor wishes he had, even though he'd been pivotal in defeating Hela.
"But we went back to Asgard and we defeated her. If we'd kept thinking there believing was nothing we could do, she probably would have slaughtered everyone in Asgard, then in the rest of the nine realms."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He took another look at Thor - he was doing that a lot. "You look pretty god fro 1500 years old." He briefly wondered what the full life expectancy would be for him then, if he looked the way he did at 1500. "That's not idealism. Idealism is believing there is good in her and trying to get her to change her ways. What you're talking about is optimism and determination. "
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Especially if you had a human girlfriend. Or human friends.
Still, he lets out a bark of laughter at the idea that Hela might be reformed. "You're right," he says. "I still have a hard time differentiating who can be reformed and who can't be." He'd believed Loki wasn't capable of being redeemed.
He takes another swig of his beverage, then levels his gaze at Alec.
"What's the reason for you half-glass empty philosophy?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Experience." He finished off his glass and poured another one. He appreciated the pace that Thor was drinking - finally someone who could keep up. It was nice. "I'm not from your world with superheroes and whatever. My world the people generally suck unless they prove otherwise."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"That change here?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Here?" He paused. "Yeah. Most people here are okay. Everyone seems to have their own crap they have to deal with back home and no one seems excited to hurt other people." Unless you counted Rocket. Alec did, but he could just be being petty there. "It's like whoever's in charge is just picking up the not-so-crappy people."
