Check-In: Not-Mother Hen
Kitty sat at the bar with a cup of coffee and her notebook, watching the 'welcoming committee' make themselves busy. Liz was here, as she'd promised Kitty she would be and Kitty gave her a quick smile of encouragement.
One of the worst things about Check-In Days was that you never knew whether it'd be a whole long day of no one arriving, one spectacular fall from the ceiling and dropping dead after another, or anything in between. It made it hard to know what to do with yourself. After awhile, you got used to it and just kept on with whatever you'd do otherwise, and know that if you didn't step up for a new arrival, someone else would. But for someone not used to treating it like a responsibility to be here, especially someone with Liz's anxious need to be perfect at it, Check-In Day could be emotionally exhausting.
So Kitty made sure to have milk warmed for hot cocoa and her plans for the obstacle course handy in case Liz needed something to do with herself. Otherwise, she was working on a modification of Cerebro to see if she could start detecting new arrivals.
[ooc: Regular check-in day gathering post. If you want Kitty, ping me.]

Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Jane.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He could respect that. In fact, he pursed his lips together and gave a slight nod as if to say 'alright then.' "I can respect that. And you'll have plenty of humans and other things to choose from here if you want." Alec had slept with a gnome on several occasions - something he thought he'd never do.
"Just, you know, not with me. Sorry. Way more into women."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Somehow that praise from someone like Thor - who Alec was learning quickly seemed pretty straight-forward and honest about most things - was validating. He'd never admit it, but it made him inwardly beam.
"I try to be, anyways." That was supposed to be him sounding humble, but his tone of voice held more confidence than it should for that statement. "I don't think you'll particularly have a problem here, if that's you're thing. Plus occasionally there are otherworlds and those are interesting."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
The wistfulness is short-lived, though, as he takes another swig of his beverage. Thor is starting to lose count of how many bottles he's had, but clearly, it's still not enough.
"The attractive redhead mentioned those other worlds," he says. "What do you do there?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
There weren't that many red-heads. River Song? Emma? He hoped Thor didn't mean Mildmay, otherwise he'd have to question Thor's taste.
"Well, the last time it opened up it was a space station... Slept with a few people, then ended up bringing Spider-Man and a friend of mine to a strip club, promptly got into a bar fight with some cat alien people and got arrested. So, you know, the usual."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"You mentioned Thanos earlier," he says, trying not to think of what Thanos had done, but wanting to ask precisely because of it. "Did your Spider-Friend tell you that name?"
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"No, he's before he becomes an Avenger. When Stark first brainwashes him." He's not a fan of Tony at all. "The moron showed up and told Peter, Spider-Man, all about him and the fight and hyped the whole shit up like it was some exciting adventure they were all going to win and high-five over." Being drunk didn't mean Alec still didn't have his facilities... Maybe he wasn't that drunk. "Peter thinks the superhero thing is really exciting and doesn't really get all the bad that comes with it." Not really, anyways. "So I punched the moron in the face."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
He didn't remember seeing Stark on Earth.
"Brainwashes him?"
What had happened while he was gone from Earth those two years?
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"I guess you guys get into some sort of fight amongst yourselves and Stark picks him up and basically dangles the Avengers infront of him." This might be a little skewed from Alec's interpretation. "Basically encourages a fourteen year-old to play hero without any training."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Stark is a well-meaning idiot. He has made poor decisions in the past, but he's always done them for good reasons," he says. Thor thinks back to Ultron, frowning. Stark had been right about so many things then, even though his fear for the planet had led him down the wrong path that day. "The last I saw him, he wanted to protect the earth from outside forces without the use of human or Asgardian lives. I don't think he'd intentionally put a child in harm's way."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Intentionally or not," He shook his head and shrugged. "Just try not to give the kid a sense like what you guys do is all high fives and witty comebacks, is all I'm asking" Especially since Alec knew from having asked about Thanos, shit was hitting the fan back home.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Regardless of what Stark did or didn't do, I wouldn't recruit a 14-year old human to do what we're doing," he says. He's specific with the human part because there's plenty of species where fourteen would land them soundly in adulthood. "I don't think anyone would have the sufficient maturity to do what we do at that age. I didn't, until about 10 years ago."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Alec was happy to see they were on the same page with that. He nodded. "Agreed." Of course it didn't matter if they agreed, 'I'm-mature-Peter' had to be the one to see that and he wouldn't probably ever.
"You know this is the first time, in a long time, where I've drank enough to feel a buzz."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
After awhile, you start to lose track.
"The only people who've been able to hold their own with me have been Asgardian."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"Glad to know I was made to compete with an alien race in drinking." He smirked and finished off the tequila bottle.
"But I should stop before I have the wrath of Kitty for taking all the booze away from everyone else on arrival day."
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
"oh, I'm sure they'll let you get away with more things than they will me" He winked with a wry expression as he pushed off the bar.
"Thanks again" he held up the coaster as he started to walk away.
Re: Comparing Sizes - Tag Thor
Thor watches as Alec turns and leaves, then finishes off the bottle.
