It seemed impossible, almost, too far-fetched to be true. (Especially with Percy standing right beside him, though Percy did have strong feelings regarding the gods.) Not to say Scanlan wasn't smart, or that he didn't have an incredibly good memory for his songs, or that he wasn't an excellent storyteller...
Once he'd thought of it in that way, it seemed slightly less impossible. And if Scanlan had said it to Vex already, it was more rather than less likely to be true. But the more incredible thing was - "What, did all of Vox Machina become some god's Champion?"
