[EP] Recon Mission

Ororo had been at the inn for only a couple of weeks and while she'd gathered some information it had been limited in nature. She'd decided to expand her search and it had the added benefit of getting out of her room.

She'd heard there was a beach, that was something that she'd never seen before in real life. Ororo had seen it in pictures and on TV, but not in person. The closest beach to Cairo had been two hours away and not worth the trip on the bus. She'd needed the money that she stole for living, nothing frivolous like a beach trip.

That wasn't the case now, so she'd walked in the direction others had said to go until she smelled the salted water on the air. Ororo paused, before she caught sight of it and just felt the difference in the atmosphere, it was nice. She continued on until she reached the line between the pavement and the sand. Ororo bent down to take off her shoes before she stepped on the soft sand. To others, it probably would have burnt the bottom of their feet, but hers were so used to hot desert sand, that it didn't register. The only thing that did was the difference and she liked it. There was a small smile to her lips and she ran to the water's edge to kick the salty sea letting the water splash around her and on her.

Ororo had stayed at the beach until her stomach growled from hunger which sent her back toward the inn and food. She thought about getting the meal to sit outside by the pool, but she found that she preferred the ocean water. At least for now, so she'd found a table to enjoy her grilled fish and vegetables. It was another meal that she rarely got, even at the Professor's mansion.

"The 80s?" He said. Wow... I know people said there are people here from different times, but it's different when you meet someone. "It's, uh... it's 2018 where I'm from. Some stuff has changed since then, I guess..... sorry."

His expression turned contemplative.

"Mutants?" He said. "We have... people who have powers, but I don't know if they call themselves mutants."

He paused.

"Are all people with... abilities, mutants?" He asked.

Tyrone considered her words. He watched her and hesitantly lifted up his hood. As he concentrated, Tyrone was slowly engulfed in darkness that looked a little bit like black mist. In an instant, he disappeared and then reappeared beside her. He was standing.

"I don't think I was born with it," He said. "There was an accident on an oil rig and it exploded. I got caught by this... energy wave. Then years later I was able to do this."

He shook his head.

"I don't think so... I'm sixteen now and it only started." He explained, then added. "Well... I guess I used it once as a kid. When the explosion just happened. I helped this girl out of a sinking car... I think. My memory from then is kind of fuzzy."

"The first time I used my power, I went to sleep and woke up on a roof," he said. "It took me a while to figure out I was actually doing something and then even more to figure out how to do it not by accident, but I think it's something that happened to me, not something that was in me all along."

He nodded.

"On other," he replied. "Her name is Tandy. Her powers are kind of the exact opposite to mine, I guess. Someone told me once we're like, two sides of a coin."

He shrugged.

"I don't know if anyone else got affect when we did, but the same sort of energy was released a few days before I got here and it made people go crazy." He said.

"Seems so," he confirmed with a nod. "I didn't have these powers before. Not sure I really want them, but I found ignoring them was worse."

"How did you learn to get good at it?" He asked. "Did you just get better over time or did you have someone who taught you?"

Tyrone couldn't help but to look at her hair when she mentioned it. It looked weirdly naturally even though he knew better.

"Wow," He said. "That sounds kind of intense, but also a little familiar."

He cracked a smile to try and be funny.

"Well, I'm glad you found people like you back home." He continued. "If I didn't have Tandy, I'd probably be way more freaked out back home."

"Yeah... I would have definitely been a mess." He said honestly. "I can barely handle everything now, to be honest."

He shook his head. He thought of Evita's aunt, but she didn't know he had powers.

"It's just me and Tandy," He said. "Both of us trying to figure out what the hell happened and what we're supposed to do with what we got."

"Really?" he ventured. "Yeah, okay. Thanks. That'd be nice, actually."

He smiled. Not only would he look forward to training, but that it was with someone of color made Tyrone especially happy.

He laughed quietly and then he shook his head.

"I haven't done anything with anyone, really, so I wouldn't know," He said. "You could tell me to stand naked in the rain and throw fish at me and if you told me it was normal, I might believe you."

Maybe not to that extreme, but it's funny either way
