Happy Thanksgiving? - OTA

Dyson had been kind enough to acquiesce to Bo's request to find a wild turkey and bring it back so she could make a Thanksgiving turkey. He had told her he would cook it over a fire, but Bo was determined to make the turkey the proper way with stuffing and whatever. She wanted there to be at least a little bit of home here and channeling her energy into this felt a lot more productive right now than waiting for Regina and Dyson to figure out how to get the arch to actually be magical so it could be used as the first trial.

So when the fire alarm sounded from the kitchen, it was probably a bad sign. So was the smoke that seeped through the cracks of the kitchen door.

Bo coughed as she waved a cloth at the oven and then retrieved a very burned turkey from the oven. Charred might be a better descriptor. She coughed and set the pan on the counter. "I swear I followed the directions to the letter."

Except she had used Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.

"Nope, I'm saying that the entire oven cleans itself." Buffy assured her. "You don't have to do anything."

"Teach me your ways, wise one." Bow as already moving towards the oven. Thankfully, the alarm seemed to go off on it's own somehow. "And then maybe how I can still have Thanksgiving Dinner without a turkey."

Buffy laughed, "for the first time ever I'm the wise one because I burn a lot of food. Go me!" She reached for a pot holder to take out the rack that some grease probably got on and then turned the self cleaning button. "That's it. Now the oven does its thing. We'll have to wipe it down but easy peasy."

She swished her lips back and forth, "and you can have Thanksgiving without turkey definitely. My mom and I one year had lasagna. Make it your own."

"Lasagna, huh?" In truth, Bo hadn't really celebrated Thanksgiving since she left home - she hadn't had a family to do it with. "My friend Kenzi and I last year had Chinese Food, so I guess you're right." Though Kenzi wasn't here.

"Not that I have any idea how to make lasagna." Bo was sort of hopeless in the kitchen. "PB and J sandwiches?"

"PB and J are my favorite." Buffy nodded. "And if you take a cookie cutter in the shape of a turkey you can cut the sandwiches. Voila, turkey for Thanksgiving." She grew serious when she added, "besides who you spend your holiday with is more important than what you eat."

"I know " And she did. She understood family was really all that mattered. "I guess I just hoped to, you know, impress my boyfriend's mother. She's a little intimidating, Mary." Mostly because she was Sam's mother.

"I get it." Buffy did. "Okay maybe not boyfriend's mother but trying to impress someone being something that you're not." She made a face, "it usually doesn't turn out well. I thought my boyfriend in high school wanted someone like he was used to. A real old fashioned girl, a society girl." Buffy shook her head, "as it always happens, life over the Hellmouth made that project blow up in my face. Someone put a spell on me and I turned into this Eighteenth century girl that was scared of her own shadow and almost got killed by a vampire. The point is, Angel didn't want an old fashioned society girl. He'd hated that type. He wanted someone like me. So the moral of the story is be who you are, PB&J sandwiches and all and I bet Mary will be more impressed by that, then a perfectly cooked turkey."

As Bo listened, she smiled. "You know, you're pretty good at the pep talk, Buffy." And she appreciated it too. "I guess you're right. Plus I'll punch Dyson in the face if he says anything." Well, anything too mean - Dyson was going to say something. "And I think I'll leave the American Thanksgiving to the professionals this year."

Though she thought about Buffy's story. "Did you really turn into an Eighteenth century girl?"

Buffy perked up a little at Bo's compliment. Maybe she would be good at being a counselor someday.

"Yeah, I did. I was afraid of everything." She made a face, "It was one of those be careful what you wish for moments."

"wow. I mean, I bet you looked fantastic though" she winked, unable to stop herself from flirting a little. "I think Kenzi and Dyson would die if they saw me like that."

"Thanks, I did look pretty good in it." Buffy admitted, "but man there were a lot of layers. I have to say I'm glad I live in a time where there aren't that many." She paused, "and you should totally wear something like that at Halloween. You would rock it."

"You think?" Bo thought about it. She wondered what Dyson would say - not that he'd have any real feelings about it, really. "Huh. Okay, yeah. Maybe I'll try that then. I'd been wondering what to go as since Caroline told me about the party."

Since Buffy had been there, nothing wonky had happened on Halloween so she was pretty sure they were safe choosing whatever outfit they wanted.

"Yep. I say go for it! You'd look great for the party!"

"Alright, I think I will then. Plus it'll be interesting to see what Sam thinks when he sees me in something that's not leather." She smiled wryly.

"I bet he'll love it." Buffy grinned, "but he probably won't like all the layers of clothing that go with it."

"I don't know... I kind of like the challenge that gives him." She winked.

"Okay. Step one, trash the bird, step two, sandwiches. Then I'm going to think about this costume."

"And I'll leave you to make your projects." Buffy said with a smile. She wasn't stupid. She was getting out of the kitchen before Bo convinced her to help.

"Let me know if you need help with the outfit if that's what you decide to do."

"Will do." She grinned. Now that she had a solid idea for Halloween, she was going to make sure she aced it.
