Infirmary Visit (Jan 1st - AM) Tag Thor

The first thing that hit Liz when she started to wake up was the sudden wave of nausea she felt. Her skin was clammy and she shifted a little in a bed she did not recognize. She made a small inaudible sound as she came more and more to consciousness.

Her eyes fluttered open and she noticed the familiar ceiling of the infirmary. How did she get here? Her memory was a bit fuzzy as she was still slowly walking up. In a moment it seemed as if everything came rushing at her - Mr. Stark, Peter, the future.

Liz sat up like a rocket and then immediately regretted it, reaching for her forehead as she slumped forehead. She felt terrible.

"I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to be," Thor says. He yawns again and sits up in the chair. "You all right?"

She leaned against the bed and offered a small nod that might not have been overly confident. "Yeah.. yeah, I'm fine." Except she was pale and kind of sweaty.

Liz knew Thor had to know. If Mr. Stark knew, then Thor had to know - they were close, right? Her mind wandered to whether or not Thor was dead too and her grip on the sheet on the bed tightened.

Thor's definitely noticed it.

"You need me to go get Loki?" Out of the two of them, Loki was definitely better at the medical side of things. He wasn't much of a healer. Way more of a fighter.

"No, no, it's okay, really. I'm just..." It felt like she had a cold, though for it to come on this quick seemed strange - then again, she supposed she had a lot of stress suddenly. "It's just..." She met his gaze and she had to press her lips together.

"I'm sorry, Thor."

"What are you apologizing for? The whole 'me sleeping over' thing? I have slept in worse places."

You didn't get to be 1500 without sleeping in a few less-than-ideal places.

"No, um." She pressed her lips together more firmly - it was essentially keeping Liz from losing it. "For... what happens back home. With, um..." Well, he'd know, right?

Oh.

"It's been about six months. It gets easier with time." He hopes that his words bring some comfort to her, though he can't imagine they do. He's not even sure if they're true himself, but he might have very well been the exception to the rule than the golden standard.

Her lip quivered a little and she hand to sit back down as standing seemed too hard. "There has to be..." She looked down at her hands, watching them curl into her clammy palms. Liz's mind was already trying to solve the problem. She had vague memories of dreams about it too, but plenty others one would deem more as nightmares.

"If I make it to your world... that would change the equation of people... maybe one of you could be saved."

"I'm still alive back there," Thor says, because he's not sure Liz knows that. "Things did not happen so sleepy. You could just as well be alive as dead.

There was another little way of heat that spread through her - the sort that you feel when your fever begins to linger.

"There has to be something." Liz wasn't worried about going to their world to die, she was way more concerned about the fates of everyone else and, in particular, a masked superhero who swung from webs.

She closed her eyes - one last attempt to keep it together. "I don't want people to die. I don't - I don't want him to die."

"We're working something out," he says. "Tony's from earlier in the timeline than I am, and I now know where all the Infinity Stones are."

He smiles. "Do not lose hope, Liz."

Despite his reassurances, Thor was a moment or two too late to stop the tears, but the were quiet and subdued.

"Do you think... Do you think it'll work?" She opened her eyes and looked at him. She wanted the truth rather than to be placated.

Liz wanted to believe him. She wished she could be like the child who just needed reassurance from their parent that things were fine and didn't second-guess things. Somehow, she had grown cynical.

Still, she gave him a slow nod, wiping her face with the back of her hand.

"I need to talk to Peter." She took a breath in - somehow thinking about him caused the world to spin a little, but she ignored it and stood slowly and gingerly.

Thor offers her a sympathetic smile and tries not to think about how, however indirectly, he is the cause of Liz's suffering.

"I believe Tony talked to him last night," Thor says, because it sounds like something Liz needs to hear. "I'm not sure how he feels this morning."

"It doesn't matter if he doesn't want to talk... I need to talk to him. He can't just - just shoulder this on his own. We're -" She paused. Being told this relationship they had was temporary or 'part of her journey of love' from so many adults made Liz hesitant. She glanced at the door.


"I want to be there for him." She'd take his place in a heartbeat and Liz was already thinking about how that might be possible.

"Then go be there for him," Thor says, as if this is a simple matter. "But only after you are feeling better."

She should have been there for him a week ago. It felt like she needed to make up for lost time somehow.

"I'm fine... It's just a cold." Probably. She stood up a little straighter to try and convince Thor how fine she was.

Liz felt the need to hug him, but she was worried he'd feel how hot she was, realize she had a fever, and force her to stay. So she sent him a warm, though small smile instead.

"Thank you..."

And now she just needed to find Peter and not throw up at the same time. Simple as pie.
