[Log] Annie and Liz at the Park and Become official friends.
Annie was excited about the theme park. She had been to the on at Coney Island a few times, but this place was different. Since it was a new place to explore, she was also excited. Saturday morning she was at the theme park again. She had been avoiding the haunted house because it seemed really scary, but she didn't want to leave any ride unexplored. Annie told herself that superheroes weren't afraid of haunted houses. She decided to wait in line.
Liz had been on the look out for some items to buy or win for Peter for his birthday in the summer when she spotted Annie who looked rather nervous. She made her way toward the haunted house and pulled up behind her. "Hey, um... are you okay?" She looked nervous, plus Liz had heard some rumours that the attraction might not be entirely safe.
"I'm fine," She answered, turning half way around to Liz. "It's probably not that scary. Just waiting for my turn."
Annie couldn't bring herself to show weakness in front of Liz Parker.
She watched the girl for a moment as if trying to decide if Annie was telling the truth or not. "Are you sure? There's been some rumours this isn't the safest.."
"I'm not scared!" She protested.
Annie looked at Liz defiantly. It was then the next group's turn and that meant her. Annie took the opportunity to hurry inside. She was going to find her way out quickly and she wasn't going to be scared.
Liz didn't have time to respond before Annie took off into the haunted house and so she quickly followed with a soft apology to the person at the front running the attraction. By the time Liz found herself in the dark creepy hallway of the 'hospital' she couldn't find Annie. Could she have gotten that far quickly?
She glanced around, slowly moving through the dimly lit area. Liz was not a fan of haunted houses on a good day, but she wasn't sure she trusted one that stemmed from an Other World. Experience told her the other shoe could drop at any moment. "Annie?" She called out, but it wasn't very loud. Somehow she was worried about announcing herself, even though she kept telling herself the people in here were just actors and there was nothing to actually be scared of.
Annie was in a room with a lot of curtains drawn around what she assumed were beds. She ducked into a room quickly to avoid Liz. She could hear Liz calling for her. I can do this on my own. Annie secretly knew she was being unfair to Liz, but she couldn't help herself.
There was some rustling from one of the closed curtains when a hand reached out and touched her shoulders. Annie cried out and turned. She was ready to fight.
"Sorry!" Liz looked as surprised as Annie was. "I didn't mean to startle you, I just... I thought maybe we could go through this place together? I'm not really good at haunted houses and this one's really creepy."
Annie glared while her heart raced. She didn't have time to say anything as the curtain was violently pulled back and off of the table in the middle of the room was a zombie. The other curtains were pulled back and suddenly the room seemed to be filled with zombies.
The zombies looked really convincing. "We should.. we should probably go." Liz took a step back toward the door.
Annie felt a stubborn jolt. She turned to face Liz defiantly.
"They're just pretend," She said. "Don't be such a scaredy-cat."
Annie's expression was mostly left unnoticed because Liz was staring at the very real looking zombies lumbering toward them. Something felt really off and Liz was even starting to think she smelled decay which wouldn't be normal. Annie wasn't paying enough attention and Liz panicked as one got close - she stepped forward and grasped Annie's wrist. With a tug, she pulled Annie to her and turned. At the same time, the zombie reached out and grasped Liz by the arm. She was pulled back and let out a cry when teeth dug into her shoulder.
This is definitely not normal! Annie's eyes went wide. When Liz screamed, Annie's instincts took over. Annie jumped high into the air and kicked the attacker back by the face.
"Let's go!" She said.
Annie grasped Liz's hand this time and took off out of the room. They ran down the hall and up some stairs and into a room that seemed empty. They were on the third floor now. Annie shut the door and leaned against the door to catch her breath.
Liz was also out of breath and she was bleeding now. She shoulder stung and she held onto it as she glanced around the room before her eyes settled back onto Annie. "Are you okay?"
Annie looked to Liz.
"Am I okay?" She repeated. "You're the one who got bitten. Are you okay? I'm sorry. I didn't think they'd be real in here."
"I'm not sure they're supposed to be." Liz had dealt with so much weird now that at least the shock factor was mostly gone. "It's okay, though. If we can get back to the inn, they'll be someone to heal this no problem. We just need to get out.
"How?" Annie asked, looking around.
She felt bad. She didn't like being the reason anyone got hurt. She felt extra bad it was Liz for some reason.
Liz glanced around. It looked like they were in an office. The window was barred, but even if they could pry that open, there was a very big drop to the ground. Annie might be able to survive, but she would be hurt really badly. The one good thing was there didn't seem to be anywhere for something to surprise them in this room... not that they could stay here forever. She took a breath and started to look around.
She started to look in the desk. "Maybe there's something in here we can use as a weapon in case we need it."
Annie didn't like the idea of using weapons. Liz doesn't have abilities. She needs one.. She started to look around too and found a maglite.
Liz didn't find anything except a lot of papers that she was sure was meant as some sort of backstory to whatever was supposed to be going on in the hospital. She didn't think they had time to play detective right now - she didn't want Annie anywhere near this place.
"Okay, well... I guess a flashlight is better than nothing." It really felt like they had a lot of 'nothing'. "We need to find a way out. I'm going to guess the way we came won't be an option, if this is supposed to be a haunted house. But I think I read somewhere this place is so scary it has multiple exits for people so we just need to find the closest one." Liz wished they had a map.
"I can fight them." Annie declared. "They're slow and stupid. I'm fast and strong."
Liz offered the smallest of smiles that was meant to placate. "How about we try not to let it come to that?" She didn't want to talk about odds and being over-run, etc. Plus she knew a lot of people would be upset if Liz somehow encouraged Annie to try and save the day and got badly hurt in the process.
Liz went to the door and pressed her ear to the door. It didn't sound like anything was out there, but then again, she wasn't sure zombies made a lot of noise. She lowered her voice to a whisper. "Okay, come on."
They crept out into the hallway which appeared to be empty. She had really hoped there would be a map somewhere with a 'you are here' like in a real hospital, but there didn't seem to be one and she supposed to would defeat the purpose of a haunted house.
Annie kept close as they walked through the hall. Some doors were closed and some where opened. She only peered inside long enough to walk by. There wouldn't be an exit on the third floor. She spotted a sign for the stairs and silently motioned toward it.
Liz glanced to where Annie pointed and nodded. They took the stairs, but it looked like the first floor was blocked off by a lot of debris - too much to move or get around - so second floor it was. They needed to find another stairwell... how big was this place anyway?
Annie stayed close to Liz. Occasionally her eyes would go to the bleeding wound on her shoulder and Annie would feel guilty. Suddenly there was movement behind them. Annie turned and saw a bunch of zombies coming out from all the rooms.
"We need to go," She said loudly. "We need to go now!"
Liz glanced behind her and immediately agreed with Annie. She took off down the hall. They came to some sort of atrium where, presumably, if this had been a real hospital at one point, patients would have lounged around. They started for the other hall when Liz stopped - there were tons of zombies coming from that direction too. Slowly she started to back up.
Annie knew she needed to fight. She could protect Liz and be a hero.
"Stay back, I got this," She said as she stood in front of Liz.
"Annie, no." Liz didn't think even Peter could take on that many zombies at once.
"You'll see!" She said stubbornly.
When a zombie came close, Annie kicked it back into the crowd. Another one surged on them and Annie managed to trip them. She knocked down or pushed away a few more, but they kept coming and she didn't seem to be making headway. They were inching backward still.
Liz's mind raced. Her eyes scanned around while Annie fought and she knew Annie could not hold out forever. She peered out the window. There was snow built up below and the second floor was definitely better than the third.
Annie threw a zombie over her shoulder. It went flying into a window pane that took up the majority of the wall. The window cracked against its weight.
Liz pushed a half broken piano at the zombie and pushed it away from the window and pinned it to the wall. They were not getting anywhere though and Liz was pretty sure that Annie was starting to look tired. Liz did the only thing she could think of to get them out of there. Annie would probably hate her, but at least the girl would be alive. She grabbed Annie and flung her shoulder into the already cracked window. It shattered on impact and they both started to free-fall. Liz turned so she was 'on' her back and she held onto Annie tightly.
Liz did not remember the impact or how she ended up in the infirmary.
