GP: April Fools!

It didn't take any sort of precognitive abilities to predict some kind of shenanigans on the first of April. Many of the people stuck in the bubble world of the Madonna Inn were from times and places where April Fools' Day pranks were normal, expected... (in many cases) minor annoyances. And then there were the residents who remembered the strange egg hunt from a year ago, and the sometimes confusing explanations of the two holidays falling on the same day and how that related.

Also, life at the inn could be interminable. After a while, people started hoping for some kind of strangeness to happen, just to break up the monotony of being trapped in a kitschy no-snow globe.

So, no. You didn't have to be a mutant fortune teller to expect some kind of joke being pulled. But Emma was, and even she had no idea what was coming, other than it was going to be frustrating and topsy-turny, and the visions she'd been getting from the tarot – and way more reversals than was usual or healthy in her experience – were even less clear than usual.

She definitely didn't foresee waking up without the powers that were as much a part of her as her heart. Or just as suddenly having powers she had no idea how to control. But she did, and she had*, and she was far from the only one. The same thing was happening to people all around the inn.

(*Not to worry. The singe marks should be gone in a day or so. Right?)

[Powers swap GP! Tag in. Tag around. It's a time for out and about at the inn coping (or not) with powers gained (or lost).]

Her green eyes widened in surprise but she would have recognized that voice anywhere. "Brother?" What had happened to her brother? Had he been made human like her?

"I am still getting used to eating food and tasting it." She had quickly discovered that she didn't like fried foods - or chocolate.

Rocket blinked. In his real shape his ears would have swiveled and flattened, it was a little benefit of being human that you couldn’t read mood by ears. “Yeah, it’s me. Since I woke up this morning. Hadta call Quill to bring me clothes to fit a bald gangly thing. You got changed too, huh?”

Mia didn’t eat, but if she was human now.... “You tried marshmallows yet? They’re pretty great.” At least, they were to real tastebuds. Who knew what they’d be to a human?

"I haven't." She shook her head, "but I've tried other foods." Mia sighed softly, "I tried some chips, they are very popular in Britain, but all I could taste was grease." Rocket could be forgiven for assuming she meant potato chips instead of french fries.

"What does a marshmallow taste like?" She'd seen them of course and even put them in hot chocolate for Sophie, but Mia had never eaten one or been curious about it.

Potatoes in any form were okay - they were bland, though, and there were way better things to eat. “Mostly sugar, I think. You know what you oughta try? Peanut butter. Or a drink, since I can reach the high shelves now.”

"I would like a drink." Mia looked at the bar behind him but she'd never had anything alcoholic before. "Pick something you think I should try." She smiled at him and it was full of warmth of the fondness she felt for Rocket. Something that synthetic Mia couldn't do but human Mia could.

Rocket couldn’t help smiling back, a bit, then offered the glass he’d been sipping to her. “Try this. ‘S called a Long Island Iced Tes. You like it, I’ll make you one’a your own. You don’t, we’ll try somethin’ else.”

She took a sip of the offered drink and began to cough as it burned down her throat. Her eyes watered a little bit, too. "Curious." But after the sensations quieted, Mia found that she actually liked the taste of it. She handed it back to Rocket, "I'll take one of those."

“Sure thing.” As with his own, Rocket used exclusively top shelf stuff fir Mua’s Drink, mostly because he could reach the top shelves. It was an easy drink to make, so inside of a minute or two, Mia had her own Long Island Iced Tea. “You’re probably gonna wanna go a bit slow,” he warned her. “Booze can hit hard when you ain’t used to it.” He was very used to it, but Mia wasn’t used to anything.

This time Mia's sip was more tentative and truly a sip. "are you drinking because the inn made you human? Or are you only taking advantage of the opportunity, like me?"

"Nah, I drink a lot anyway." Rocket shrugged. "I like bein' able to reach the shelves, though. Gonna miss that shit when I go back ta bein' me."

Mia's brow furrowed, not realizing that it had. "They should put some shelves down low so that you can reach them and put the alcohol that you prefer there as well."
