GP: April Fools!

It didn't take any sort of precognitive abilities to predict some kind of shenanigans on the first of April. Many of the people stuck in the bubble world of the Madonna Inn were from times and places where April Fools' Day pranks were normal, expected... (in many cases) minor annoyances. And then there were the residents who remembered the strange egg hunt from a year ago, and the sometimes confusing explanations of the two holidays falling on the same day and how that related.

Also, life at the inn could be interminable. After a while, people started hoping for some kind of strangeness to happen, just to break up the monotony of being trapped in a kitschy no-snow globe.

So, no. You didn't have to be a mutant fortune teller to expect some kind of joke being pulled. But Emma was, and even she had no idea what was coming, other than it was going to be frustrating and topsy-turny, and the visions she'd been getting from the tarot – and way more reversals than was usual or healthy in her experience – were even less clear than usual.

She definitely didn't foresee waking up without the powers that were as much a part of her as her heart. Or just as suddenly having powers she had no idea how to control. But she did, and she had*, and she was far from the only one. The same thing was happening to people all around the inn.

(*Not to worry. The singe marks should be gone in a day or so. Right?)

[Powers swap GP! Tag in. Tag around. It's a time for out and about at the inn coping (or not) with powers gained (or lost).]

Miguel couldn't imagine suddenly being without was such a part of him. It would be like his soul was torn if his musical ability suddenly was gone.

"I'm sorry. I hope this is just the inn playing a trick on us. If I'd woke up without my music --- it would be hard."

"I'm sure it's only a passing problem," Vex assured him, and herself, if she was being honest. "Most strangeness here only last a day or two. Three at most.

"At least Elaina doesn't seem to have been effected." Vex rubbed a hand over the curve of the baby's back, where she nestled in the cloth wrap. She wouldn't be handling things nearly as well if anything had happened to her baby. It was bad enough Percy couldn't be sure of holding her.

"Did you know, there are spells and magic items in my world that can make people stronger or faster?" Her thoughts turned to Vax's boots, and she pulled them away to focus on the boy and his new abilities. "It can be quite an adjustment."

"Really?" Miguel asked with excitement. "Is there a way to use magic to control it?" He was hoping there would be a way that he wouldn't mess things up by accident.

Vex thought for a moment, considering. Not exactly to control it, that I know of... but I don't know nearly as much about magic as some. There is a spell that can help you use it better, maybe. But even when I could call on nature or Pelor's aid, it's not one I know how to do. I'm sorry."

She gave him an understanding smile. "Unfortunately, we all have to learn for ourselves. Although it helps having friends who've been through similar. Maybe your friend Mack has some ideas?" Vex had always had Vax, after all. And it was so much easier coping when you weren't alone.

Miguel raised his hand but very, very carefully smacked himself in the head. He didn't want to take his head off or give himself a concussion. "I didn't think of that. It's just a part of who he is, like dark hair." He could ask Curnen, too! They would know how to at least make sure he didn't break anything or hurt anyone. "Gracias!"

Vex didn't know the word, but even Grog could have told it was meant as a thank you.

"I'm glad I could help. Sometimes it takes being outside a problem to see a solution." Like looking down on a battle instead of being in the thick of it, something Vex was very practiced at.

"My Abuelita, um Grandmother, used to say that a lot." Well maybe not in those words, but the idea was the same.

"Sometimes I forget that my friends have special abilities." Miguel confessed with a little shrug.

The opposite, forgetting when a friend didn't have their usual abilities for some reason – inn hijinks, attuning to a different magic item, too long without sleep – was more common in Vex's experience. But she could see how Miguel could think of his friends as much the same as himself.

"Forgetting is easy. I'm sure they'll understand. And hopefully have some advice on dealing with your new powers too."

The bundle against her chest that was Elaina fussed quietly, and Vex bounced gently on the balls of her feet, hoping to keep the fussing quiet for now. "I think someone is about ready for some lunch," she explained. "Or she wants me to be moving around more." It could be hard to tell, especially at first. But as full as her tits felt, Vex was thinking hungry.

He was reminded of his baby sister and sometimes he wondered if she would even remember him. He hoped that other people were right and that there was another him with her.

"Probably moving around." Miguel smiled a little. "My little sister used to make a sound like that when I stood too long."
