Check-in May 15

It was the 15th of the month and given the possibility of arrivals, Caroline decided that something should be done to make new people a little more comfortable.

So she was sitting in the lobby, wearing a bright yellow sundress and surrounded by a riot of materials. Her feet were bare, as her sandals were lying off to the side, and her toenails were blue. She was creating Inn survival kits. There was a little pamphlet of explanations: people call the guy at the desk Daryl; yes, everything is free; no, you can't leave; just be firm about towels. A basket of sundries - snacks from the gift shop, sunscreen, guidebook, toothbrush etc. There was a towel, because obviously.

She considered adding a bottle of alcohol, but not everyone drank - she'd noticed at least a few of the current residents who didn't - and if they did drink TOO much, she didn't want to encourage it.

Maybe chocolate?

Caroline jotted down that as a note and resumed chewing on the end of her pen. The lobby door opened shortly thereafter and she looked up with a smile.

"Don't be sorry. I'm Angua, and this is rather a lot." The smile Angua offered was her best professional I-am-a-friendly-copper-be-calm-we're-all-friends-here, even without the usual edge that warned lack of friendship could come damn quick if it had to. Laynia wasn't a suspect in anything, of course. "We try to make sure people are on hand on days we expect newcomers. As we're all in this together, sort of thing."

It was starting to sink in just how worried Moira and Nathan and Franklin would be when she vanished. The sort of conclusions they would jump to. Blinking a bit rapidly, Laynia kept her breathing steady, and her voice was only a little strained as she spoke. "Well. Better way to approach being stuck in limbo than some I could think of, I guess." Like the way some of the other mutant refugees in Duninnean had handled because exiled at the end of the world... "I, um.. thanks, for explaining. What else should I know?" She wondered if this was anything like what Nathan had felt like, trying to accept the fact that he was two thousand years away from everything he'd known.

"I... honestly, I don't really know." Angua frowned. "We recently had one of the rooms turn into a whole other world? I don't know if it'll happen again, but it might. And most people try to find something to do with their time, because this is a fairly small place all told. Go out far enough and you'll just end up back here again." She thought a little more, then added, "Not everyone here is exactly human. So if you see oddities or magic or what-have-you, it's generally nothing to be afraid of."

It startled a weak laugh out of Laynia. "I don't think you need to worry about me overreacting to someone doing something odd. Back home, I live down the hall from a reality warper." She rubbed at her arms for a moment, then recognized it as a nervous gesture and made herself stop. "I... do a few odd things myself. Nothing that'd be dangerous. I mean, unless someone tries to wake me up while I'm having a nightmare, but, uh, obviously the room doors lock. So, not a concern."
