[GP] The De Rolo Wedding Reception
The calendar of "Kahl-ee-Fornea" was very different to that of Tal'Dorei. But the spring dance had been a good reminder for the Exandrians (one of them, anyway) that the Renewal Festival would take place more or less this time of year, landing always on the thirteenth day of Dulahei. It seemed a fitting time to set the 'small family dinner' in celebration of the marriage of Vex and Percy.
...Yeah, but no. Because Vax'ildan didn't mind a bit of revenge for their having done the thing without so much as telling him for several weeks, and because his sister always deserved the best of everything anyway, the garden had a whopping lot more than that for the happy couple as they opened the doors onto what first looked like pitch blackness. Until the big, white-hot spotlight snapped abruptly on to glare down on top of the pair with blinding scrutiny.
A familiar voice sang out from beyond, his ever-charming booming and crooning amplified to fill the whole of the outdoors by something called a 'microphone,' Scanlan using all his singular panache to belt out a melodic tune:
"There she is, Mrs. De Rolo
There she is, your ideal
The dreams of a million boys and girls who want to find love in Emon City
For Vex may turn out to more than Baroness of the first house of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Hunt
There he is, Mr. De Rolo
There he is, your ideal
With so much brooding and tinkering he took the town by storm
With his all-Whitestone face and form
And there they are
Walking on air, he is
Fairest of the fair, she is
There they are - Mr. and Mrs. De Rolooooooooooo~"
A resounding wave of applause, murmuring, cheers, and laughter broke out all around the newlyweds - one such unbridled merry cackle absolutely coming from the bride's brother - and Scanlan's tone changed immediately to a much more vibrant, excited, sporting-event-enthusiasm style of announcement: "Ladies and Gentlemen - it's the DE ROLO FAMILY!"
The strands of bulb lighting popped into yellow-soft brightness all at once, revealing the guests gathered around dozens of tables artfully set with dinner places enough for everyone at the Inn. Each table included flowers, linens, and garlands all matched in smart Whitestone-Blue, darker Owlbear-Blue, black and white with touches of gold accents, all thanks to Caroline's management. The outdoor area so far as one could see had been dressed in one of Lillith's illusions to mimic a beautiful forest clearing at purple-dusk with fireflies dancing, the shapes of buildings and foothills in the distance distinctly cast to look like the city and castle of Whitestone. Ignis and Emma stood by putting a few final touches on what they'd all started calling 'fancy barbecue,' an enormous buffet of haute cuisine smoked and grilled meats with artful sides, a table beside them holding up the massive layer cake Pike had tirelessly fussed into perfection. So many others had come together to help or to wish the de Rolos well - but there would be plenty of time over the evening for them to be thanked and recognized with food, drink, song - there was even an area marked out as a dance floor.
A freshly bathed Trinket in his very own bowtie lumbered up to Vex'ahlia to rumble and lick her face as the pair finally had a moment to react to the spectacle. At ground-level, a small disc-like device with a large serving spoon taped to it had been labeled with marker as Ensign Stubby, rolling its way between tables and chairs while balancing a large, many-times-stabbed basket of flower petals (with a handful left nestled in its giant spoon) on top of its flat surface like a drunken flower girl to finally bump into Vex and Percy's shoes. ...And possibly the best thing about their stunning surprise? That Peter boy had got the whole thing on VHS.

Re: Bo/Hurley
"Well, there's a few who like to think they're in charge." Bo paused, then lowered her voice a little. "Don't tell her I said that though." She didn't need more heat from Regina. Maybe she was being a little snarky though.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Yeah? Is she Regina? I think someone else mentioned her, too. What's she like?"
Hurley finishes off his beer and starts looking around for a recycling bin or something. He's not looking to gun off to one right now, but it's probably worth knowing where these things are.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"She's..." Well, it was complicated for Bo and she knew it. She sighed. "She's actually not that bad, but she can be intense and she's dating my ex, so, maybe take my words with a grain of salt." She shrugged, then smiled wryly. "And you said there isn't drama here."
Re: Bo/Hurley
Or so Hurley hopes.
"Are you dating someone now? Or you just taking a break from the whole dating thing?"
Hurley's kinda hanging out in the latter court.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Not too many shootings. That little dude you know , Scanlan, apparently got shot in the knee, but that was from him being an ass back home, so" she shrugged nonchalantly
As for the question. "I do, actually." Her eyes roamed for Sam. Much like Dyson, he was easy to find. It's like she could home in on them, feel their presence.
She gestured to where the tall, dark male was. "The slightly more stoic one." Again, said fondly. "I'm letting him off the hook tonight with dancing so he better be thankful."
Succubi didn't do too tell with not having at least one steady partner, but she didn't say that out loud
Re: Bo/Hurley
Hurley turns when Bo points over at Sam. Yeah, typical hot dude. Hot dudes, like ample medical facilities, were apparently in abundance here. Hurley could acknowledge that even the cowboy was hot, and Hurley was neither into cowboys or into dudes period.
Hurley directs his attention back over to Bo.
"He's not gonna be upset that we were dancing together, is he?"
Hurley's pretty sure that guy would lay him out in a fight. But given that the guy hasn't exactly come over and laid into him already, he at least likes to think he doesn't have anything to worry about.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Yeah. Pike's good with healing. Like, literally." She watched him for a second. He was used to weird, right? "She can heal with magic. Or, well, she says it's from the god she worships, but it's magic." Basically, anyways. Bo didn't know how she felt about the idea that there were actual gods out there, but then again, Pike was from a completely different world.
"Who, Sam?" She looked amused. "If he is, I'll have to punch him in the face." Though it was said lovingly and lightly like she probably wouldn't.. probably.
"He doesn't really get a say on who I dance with." She paused, then a little playfully. "Why, should he be upset?" She wiggled her eyebrows.
Re: Bo/Hurley
Because really, there's not. I mean, dude was totally good-looking. And he looked nice enough. Not like Sawyer who was always kinda aggressive. Not that Sawyer was a bad person, either.
People were just really complicated.
"The whole magic thing is... different," he says, trying to segue the conversation away from the whole being upset thing. "But no weirder than aliens and elves and stuff. You ever see Lord of the Rings? There's this guy in it that looks just like my friend Charlie. He's just not as short."
Still short, though.
Re: Bo/Hurley
Bo laughed. "Calm down, Hurley. Sam's not going to get jealous." And if he did from her talking to him, then, well, she and Sam would have to have a talk.
"I have seen Lord of the Rings." Bo paused, then corrected. "Okay, I've seen the opening of the first film and then fell asleep, but I know a little about it." She thought most of them were short in the film except for an Elf and a human, right? Oh, there was that wizard... she always got him confused with the one from Harry Potter.
"We have someone like that here. Dean and Alec. Two totally different guys, same face."
Re: Bo/Hurley
A beat, and then:
"If Charlie were here, he'd be asking you if you knew about his band," he says. "He was sorta obsessive about making sure people knew about it. Especially Claire."
Hurley feels like he's been talking a lot about himself, so naturally, he decides that now is a good time to turn the topic back over to Bo.
"Was it hard for you when you got here?" he asks. "I mean, yeah, you got friends here, but what about your friends back home?"
Hurley hasn't quite grasped that her boyfriend was from back home.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"I haven't heard of Driveshaft. But I can pretend for him if he ever shows up." She looked a little amused. With that kind of name, she figured the band must be heavy metal or something.
"Me? Well... I miss my best friend, Kenzi. She'd love it here." Probably get bored, but so were most people here. "I didn't leave on good terms with my ex girlfriend, though, so... that'll be awkward when I get back." Killing your ex's girlfriend would probably do that to anyone, really.
"But Dyson's here so, there's a little sliver at home... wrapped up in a grumpy and somehow stoic man."
Re: Bo/Hurley
At least if they hadn't broken up here and were still living together in the same room. That'd be really awkward.
"What happened with your ex-girlfriend? You have like, a lot of exes, or just the two?"
Re: Bo/Hurley
"I don't know if exes are ever less awkward." or maybe it was just her exes, or just her. "Those are the only two who matter." She liked because her first boyfriend ever was technically an ex, but he was also dead (because of her). Still, she had loved him a lot too.
"As for Lauren... well, her old girlfriend showed up who she thought would be gone forever and they realized they still loved each other, so-" She shrugged as if to fill in the end of that sentence.
It was mostly accurate anyways.
Re: Bo/Hurley
Still, it's easy to believe that Bo'd have a ton of exes. She was pretty and she just had this aura that made you just kinda wanna be around her. It was weird and Hurley wasn't really sure what to think about it. She was nice, too. And she seemed sharp.
"Pretty cool you like guys and ladies," Hurley says. "I thought about what it'd be like to date a dude once but it just didn't work out in my head."
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Tell me about it." Her love life was like an on-going soap opera that she'd just like to stabilize somehow. Though here, with Sam, it seemed like maybe things were starting to be different. Maybe she finally found someone for the long term.
"Why didn't it work out? Too many Alpha's in one room?" She smiled with amusement, but happy to see Hurley wasn't someone who seemed to find it necessary to conform to societal norms.
Re: Bo/Hurley
Hurley gestures vaguely.
"It doesn't happen."
Re: Bo/Hurley
"I'm of the opinion every can, if they find the right partner. You just haven't found the right one." She winked a little provocatively toward him. "but being straight is fine. Just a little boring." She joked.
Re: Bo/Hurley
That much is true. But he didn't really look at Sun or Claire or Kate that way. Dating them would be weird.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Maybe that'll change here. Lots of cute girls to choose from and most of them have something strange and fun about them." There didn't seem any 'completely normal' woman here. Men, well, there was Hathaway and Jackson at least.
Re: Bo/Hurley
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Fair enough. They're loss." She didn't sound like she was being sarcastic either. With her last sip, Bo realized her beer was empty. That was a shame.
"I'm going to head back over and get some more alcohol - am I going to see you back up there singing again tonight?"
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Yeah, probably in a few. Thinking Rock You Like a Hurricane for my encore."
Re: Bo/Hurley
"If I was wearing a bra, I'd totally throw it at you while you sang that." Not that her body gave any indication that she wasn't - her breasts looked like they were being held up by a Victorian Secret push up bra - but Bo was being honest. No said bra was actually on her person.
She sent him another wink, then leaned in and kissed him on the cheek before walking away toward the bar, hips swaying as she did so.
Re: Bo/Hurley
"Wow."
It's really the only way he can describe it. And once he's somehow fully recovered from an exchange that he'd never imagine ever happening in real life, he lumbers back over to the karaoke station.
Bo was definitely right about the girls here having something strange and fun about them.
