Two Women, Two Books (OTA)
It was a nice day out and the sun was shining bright.
Liz Parker took up residence in one of the lounge chairs by the pool, clad in jean shorts and a t-shirt, and was currently writing in her journal. She had a lot of thoughts about what she had learned with her readings with Emma. Several days after the initial news, Liz was no longer prone to crying if she dwelled too long on the subject of Max and Tess and Tess' pregnancy. Still, she hadn't quite gotten around to telling Kitty or Poitr or anyone else she might usually confide in. Only Peter knew.
I can't believe out of everyone at the Inn, the first person to know about my heartbreak with another guy is my boyfriend.
Meanwhile, a pregnant red Tiefling sat on the edge of the pool in a above-the-knee blue maternity dress. Her legs swished around idly in the water as she held up the What to Expect When You're Expecting. She was particularly looking for any sort of information on twins because, apparently, that was what she was having - they did run in the family, after all.

Re: Liz & Corbie
Corbie took a second to think about that. She and Hutch had talked about this as part of a discussion on public transportation. "Esmer's about three million people. But Bernatha, where I grew up, half a million I think."
Re: Liz & Corbie
"Wow." Not at big as a place like New York, but still pretty big. "We only have something like forty-five thousand people in Roswell. It feels like a lot less sometimes, too." She wondered why. Maybe it was because she had access to this whole other life that most of the city didn't know about.
"I've always wanted to visit a city like that, with lots of people. My friend Maria and I were planning to go to New York. It's, um. It's a really big city with something like eight million people in it."
Re: Liz & Corbie
Re: Liz & Corbie
"I don't think I'll ever actually travel there." Not unless she figured out a way to get back to Peter's time. "But it's a nice thought, you know?" She paused. "It must be a little frustrating being surrounded by so many people here from Earth." Nasedo probbaly felt like this, despite the fact he wasn't the nicest person in the world.
Re: Liz & Corbie
Corbie nodded. It was often frustrating, in little ways she couldn't predict until she was already there. But... "It's easier, with Mildmay here." Because at least with one person, she never had to worry he knew what the hell she was talking about.
Re: Liz & Corbie
"Mildmay... is he from your world?" If so, Corbie was lucky. Liz smiled a little. "What are they like?"
Re: Liz & Corbie
"You've prolly seen him," Corbie said, "though that he ain't introduced himself ain't surprising. Redhead, green eyes, big scar up the left side of his face?" The scar wasn't something she necessarily wanted to draw attention to since Mildmay was so self-conscious about it, but it was his most memorable feature.
Re: Liz & Corbie
Liz thought and then nodded. It helped there weren't a lot of redheads in the inn to begin with. "He seems nice though. Quiet." But everyone had their own way of adjusting.
Re: Liz & Corbie
Re: Liz & Corbie
"I have a friend like that at home. He's very guarded. Took a while for him to trust me." She was sure Michael still felt a little like a burden, even though that definitely wasn't the truth. "Should I, um. Should I say hi if I see him or would he hate that?"
Re: Liz & Corbie
Re: Liz & Corbie
Liz listened carefully and made a mental note about him talking. She hoped that maybe she could understand more of it than not, but nodded. It was good to know she could ask him to repeat himself, though she still would probably feel awkward about doing it.
"I think I'd like to meet him." She meant it too, not just being polite. "And, I'm glad he showed up for you."
Re: Liz & Corbie
Re: Liz & Corbie
She knew that feeling. Maybe one day she'd be lucky.
After a moment of silence, "Corbie? Thanks. You're.. you're easy to talk to."
Re: Liz & Corbie
Corbie shrugged a shoulder awkwardly. "No problem. Everybody needs someone to listen. I like being that someone, if I can."
She paused a beat. "Plus I was a hooker for a couple of years. You'd be amazed how much of that is people telling you things they don't think they can tell anybody else." Often it was just whatever they were into that they couldn't tell their wife or girlfriend about, but not always.
Re: Liz & Corbie
Liz paused and blinked and then blushed because, well, she was sure they had some prostitutes, but Liz had never seen them. "Oh." Corbie obviously didn't seem to feel awkward about it, but Liz wasn't sure what you said to someone how announced that. Did you apologize?
The blush remained. "I mean, I guess that makes sense. It's, an, um.. a comfort thing."
Re: Liz & Corbie
She giggled, but it was a soft sound without the harsh edge of mocking. "Basically, yeah. " But she didn't steer that anywhere lurid. Even if Liz was ready for that, that wasn't her point. "Sometimes they're just lonely and want to talk to somebody."
Re: Liz & Corbie
No one ever really talked about how that was probably a lot of the job for prostitutes. Everyone just sort of thought they did sex for money. Probably some just did that. The whole profession was sort of one Liz didn't really know much about - Somewhere her father was thanking the Lord for that.
"I think I'm a lot better at listening than I am giving advice.... maybe because I'm always worried if I give the wrong advice it's my fault if it turns out badly."
Re: Liz & Corbie
Re: Liz & Corbie
Liz thought that might be easier to remember than feel, about not letting what people did with the advice get to her, but she tried to keep that in mind. "Maybe one day I'll be as confident as you about everything." Liz offered a smile. She thought Corbie just about had her life together completely.
Re: Liz & Corbie
Corbie ducked her head. "Oh, I ain't. I promise you. There's a lot I'm not confident about."
Re: Liz & Corbie
There was surprise in Liz's face, like Corbie had just admitted something that hadn't even occurred to her. "There are?" Liz tried to think of what those could be. She couldn't quite think of them.
There was a slight pause. "I guess... I guess that's why they have the saying 'everybody's human'." Although everybody wasn't. Max and the others were alien.
Re: Liz & Corbie
"It ain't something that translates here completely, but at home? Girl like you'd have nothing to do with me. Cause you're a good middle class girl and I'm the bastard of a teenage momma and who even knows, who didn't have a lick of education from eight to seventeen, and spent two indictions working on my back. I'm not ashamed of any of that, but you can only take so much of people looking down their nose at you before you fold."
Re: Liz & Corbie
Liz frowned. Even if Corbie wasn't ashamed of it all, Liz couldn't help but wish for a different life for Corbie. It wasn't so much as feeling bad for her as wishing life was different.
"I'm sorry... That's not a good reason for people to treat you differently." She knew it happened everywhere though. Even at school there were those who got picked on. Alec was one of those people.
