Two Women, Two Books (OTA)

It was a nice day out and the sun was shining bright.

Liz Parker took up residence in one of the lounge chairs by the pool, clad in jean shorts and a t-shirt, and was currently writing in her journal. She had a lot of thoughts about what she had learned with her readings with Emma. Several days after the initial news, Liz was no longer prone to crying if she dwelled too long on the subject of Max and Tess and Tess' pregnancy. Still, she hadn't quite gotten around to telling Kitty or Poitr or anyone else she might usually confide in. Only Peter knew.

I can't believe out of everyone at the Inn, the first person to know about my heartbreak with another guy is my boyfriend.

Meanwhile, a pregnant red Tiefling sat on the edge of the pool in a above-the-knee blue maternity dress. Her legs swished around idly in the water as she held up the What to Expect When You're Expecting. She was particularly looking for any sort of information on twins because, apparently, that was what she was having - they did run in the family, after all.

Kash closed his eyes and let Z's fingers play through his hair. This kind of public intimacy was beyond weird, but being with Z anywhere was his best life and he didn't fight it. "I was raised by priests of a murder-goddess. You don't think that's going to screw up my parenting instincts at all?"

"Darling, if we're going to rate ourselves on our upbringing, then our children are doomed before they ever arrive." It wasn't like she had any good examples of parenting either. "We both know what not to do, from our lives."

"Yeah well, it's not hard to know not to put your kid in a cage, but it didn't stop your father," he replied caustically. The energy of it was dispersed with a kick at the surface of the water. "I don't know, Z. I never wanted kids, because of the whole 'Vesh will probably turn them into magical assassins' thing. And then there was you and these babies and now suddenly I have to figure out how not to suffocate them in their sleep because swaddling isn't the same as smothering."

He looked up. "I'm scared."

She frowned, but it was subtle and mostly formed from worry than Kash's expressions of uncertainty. She wondered briefly if this would be harder than any battle they ever fought, even the one with Vecna.

"Me too." She admitted it quietly and offered a small smile. "I've been told by a few that nothing quite prepares you for children.... but... if you're truly worried, my love, perhaps we can ask others for help?"

"We do have that going for us," Kash observed, picking up the role of faith and support when hers briefly faltered. It was how they worked. "No one here is going to let us screw up these kids too badly." A teasing smile lit his eyes when he added, "They're busybodies. Every last one of them."

He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed the knuckles. "We'll have all the help we could want. But somehow that doesn't make the idea less surreal."

"I don't think it'll ever be quite real until they are here. There are moments when even I'm surprised I'm pregnant and this belly should be a constant reminder." She laughed softly.

Kash leaned in closer and pressed his lips to her belly. "You, your belly, our babies, they're beautiful, and they'll just have to forgive us for not having done this before." Every first child had to. "At least they'll have each other. Like Vax and Vex."

"They've turned out alright, I suppose." She smiled with affection. She loved both dearly, though had, perhaps, an extra affinity to Vex, of course. "Our children will be too. I'm sure of it."

"We should probably start thinking of names, too, unless you have them already."

Kash didn't know much about babies, but he knew they couldn't keep calling them 'our children' or 'the babies'. And calling them 'the twins' would get confusing, fast.

"We'll need at least two boy and two girl names." Since they didn't know the gender of either of them. "Is there anyone you wish to honour with a name?"

"Haven't given it much thought," Kash told her honestly. "And I'd kinda rather do this... just us, in the room. Not out here at the pool." He felt too exposed.

She laughed softly and pressed a soft, quick kiss on his forehead. "Of course, darling. And besides, it will take some time to think on it. I would not expect us to be so quick to name our children." Especially since there was a lot to consider.
