Unplanned and Spontaneous Travel - Open

One of the locals in Zermatt had recommended going to Geneva as well as some of the Swiss wineries for day trips. Another suggestion had been to do some hiking and ski trails into Northern Italy from the Matterhorn, so Jane had taken them up on those suggestions.

After spending time skiing on the Matterhorn, she took one of the trails into Breuil-Cervinia, Italy and had lunch at a small restaurant with a view of the Alps and after shopping she stopped at a lovely local bar to warm up with alcohol before heading back into Switzerland.

When Jane was ready for some more nightlife than the carless town of Zermatt offered, she headed by train into Geneva. It was something that she craved, that she didn’t know that she did until she experienced it. This was a side that she learned about herself, she actually liked the energy of the large cities, with time for relaxation back at Zermatt.

Liz had arrived a day earlier in Geneva to get things ready for Peter's birthday. His official birthday back home and not just the mathematical equivalent of twelve months. She already had the tour at CERN booked, but she was on her way to find the escape room and figure out about hotel when she happened to glance up and see Jane. There was no mistaking her and she brightened as she hurried up to where she was. "Jane!" She smiled wide.

Jane turned at the sound of a familiar voice and her smile warmed. “Hey, Liz.” She waved a greeting and walked to meet up with her. “Enjoying the European vacation?”

Dean still didn't fly and the train trip from Amsterdam to Scotland had been 10 hours and three legs. That was normal travel time for him and Sam which didn't really bother him. So when Jane had texted him that she was in Switzerland and Italy, he didn't think twice about hopping a train to the coast and ferry it across the channel. Once in France, he rented a car and might have taken the long scenic route just because it had felt so good to be back in a car.

Because Zermatt was a freak of nature that didn't allow cars, seriously what kind of screwed up city was that, Dean said he'd meet her at Lake Como at the Villa Lario. He'd reserved a suite so there were two bedrooms but he might have been hoping one didn't get used.

She nodded, her hands slipping into the back of her jean pockets. "Yeah, it's going great, actually." She grinned. "It's really cool seeing people outside of the inn, too. Have you been in Geneva long?"

Jane sent Dean a text as soon as she arrived by train that she'd meet him at the bar at the villa. It still felt odd to go from cold weather in Zermatt to warm someplace else, but she'd got good at dressing in layers. The first thing off was her jacket to reveal the tank top underneath as she sat at the bar to wait for Dean.

"Not this trip but this is my second time coming here. I just arrived a couple of hours ago. How long have you been in Geneva?" Jane was glad that they'd run into each other. It was good to see Liz looking happy and relaxed.

"A few hours." She smiled. "I'm here a day early to get things ready for Peter's birthday. I'm surprising him with a tour of CERN." And she looked excited about it. Jane was right about one thing - Liz was relaxed. Being back in a place that looked a lot like home, or as close to home as possible, it was nice and re-assuring.

"I'm trying to figure out the hotel, though. Alec got a discount at the Ritz-Carlton" Liz didn't know what he had done, exactly, but she suspected she'd blush instantly if he told her. "But they wouldn't let me actually check in because of my age." Liz looked sheepish. It was hard to forget the 'real world' viewed seventeen year-olds differently than the Madonna Inn.

Dean wasn't the only head that turned when Jane walked in the bar. She was a beautiful woman that would turn heads on her own, the tattoos were an added bonus.

"Hey." He said in greeting when he slid into the seat next to her, handing her a beer bottle. "Maybe this time we won't get in a bar fight." Dean winked, "no guarantees."

Jane didn't hesitate before she offered, "would me being an 'aunt' help you get checked in?" Luckily for her, the passport given to her, had read the name she was born with, rather than Jane Doe.

"I'd like to think they wouldn't assume mother." She laughed softly, though she could be the mother of a seventeen year old if she'd had her at a young age.

Jane twisted the cap off of the bottle and leaned back in the chair. "The day is young." She raised it in salute and took a deep swallow. "Enjoy being in a car again?"

"Oh hell, yeah." Dean missed the Impala but at least he had wheels. "If I could drive this baby across the ocean, I would. This is probably one of those otherworld things like the Space Station and we'll get hauled back, but until then, I'm gonna enjoy the ride." He winked, "pun intended."

Liz looked surprised and thank grateful. "Really? You'd do that?" She wondered how many adults back home in Roswell would have done the same for two teenagers. It was funny, too, because Peter and Liz hadn't even gone all the way, either. Despite having ample opportunity, they just weren't quite ready yet for that.

"I don't think they'd think that. You're definitely like a cool aunt."

"Sure." Jane shrugged, "you're legal to drink beer at sixteen in Europe, you should be able to check into a hotel room. Besides, you're the most mature teenager I've ever met." She shot her a grin, "of course you guys at the Inn are the only ones I've met." That she knew about.

Not to mention, there wasn't a restriction of what they could do at the Inn, they were responsible enough there.

"And thanks. I'll take cool aunt."

"There's not a lot of places to go here around the lake in a car, but I think a road trip would be nice." Jane wanted to get to know this side of Dean. Cars were a big part of who he was, probably as much as being a Hunter.

Liz flushed a little at the compliment, then smiled again. She didn't think she was going to be drinking any time soon again, that was for sure. "Thanks... I think it's just like a, um. A policy for liability?" Liz, ever the practical person.

"How long have you been here? Do you remember anything?"

"Road trip definitely." Dean nodded with enthusiasm. "And they don't have speed limits here." Well they did, but it was 80 and Dean never went the speed limit anyway.

"How about a night out in Milan?" That was the closest city without crossing back over the border.

"I don't remember being here, but I do have more of my memories." Jane began, "Molly's helped me unlock more of being Alice Kruger in South Africa as a child and the FBI files have helped with my life as Remy with my brother Roman."

Her life had been messed up at a young age and she was honestly glad a large portion of it was still locked behind the drug wall - or gone forever.

"But I do like Geneva, a lot. I think I'm a big city girl." She didn't mind the serenity of the Inn, but Jane learned she liked the pulse of a city more.

"Sounds like a plan." Jane then added, "how about a whole day of going wherever the road takes us and then to Milan?" There was a freedom in choices, something that they didn't have at the Inn that she liked.

"So.. you've had more than two names, then?" She had never heard of Remy until now. "Are you... happy to remember most of it?"

She knew there were memories she'd like to forget, certainly.

"I like Geneva too, though I'm trying not to look at too many things." She wanted to wait for Peter.

"If I hadn't already booked this room I'd say lets go now." Dean smirked and tilted back his beer, "I did scope out a restaurant if you want to go." The fact that it was by a motorcycle manufacturing area was a bonus.

"When's Peter supposed to be meeting you here?" Jane asked her before she answered the question about her memories and name. "I am happy to remember it, even the stuff that just made more questions. It helps to put the pieces of me back together. And it turns out that someone rescued my brother and me from an orphanage in South Africa. She named us Remy and Roman. So born Alice, became Remy and morphed into Jane."

"Now I'm curious." Jane wondered what he'd pick. She had no idea what his taste was since the only time she'd seen him eat was at the Inn. "What'd you find?"

Three names sounded like a lot. It must have been like living three different lives - that had to get tiring. Liz had only ever known Jane as Jane, so both Alice and Remy seemed strange to her.

"Tomorrow, actually. It's his real birthday. I'm going to bring him to CERN and then to dinner and I found something called an Escape Room?" Liz was a planner.

Jane's brow furrowed at the term. She assumed it was connected to escaping a room but that would just be a logical leap. "Escape Room? What's that?" She chuckled, "besides the obvious I guess."

"Oh, um..." She shrugged off one of the straps for her backpack and rummaged through one of the side compartments until she pulled out a pamphlet. "It's like a game, I guess? There are these themed rooms and you have 45 minutes to an hour to solve the clues and riddles and get out or you 'lose'." She had one on the pamphlet that was circled. It was themed as a casino in the 1920s.

"I've never heard of it until I saw it at one of those tourist stands? I guess they're really popular in this time."
