[Log] Jailbreak - River S, Dean & Jane - Backdated to Ashphodel Station
If anyone asked, River hadn't done anything to end up in a cell - though as far as she could tell you didn't really have to. As such she wasn't exactly keen to wait around and find out what her punishment was, that and really she'd had enough prisons to last her a lifetime. They had checked her for weapons and confiscated her bag, which she would have to retrieve on her way out as it carried her diary and sonic screwdriver but they hadn't let her without some resources. Mainly her wits.
But still.
She was still inspecting the walls for any weakness or chink when the cell door was opened and new arrivals were ushered inside.
"Oh good," she said when the door was closed again, "Company." Disreputable she hoped, and willing to help or things would be more complicated.
As soon as the guard left them, Jane dropped the act that she was in pain and slipped the sling off her shoulder. "Looks like this is the holding cell for the Inn." She smiled at the other woman recognizer her from the Madonna Inn.
"What are you in for?" Dean asked smirking. "I've always wanted to say that. If I had a mug I'd swipe it across the bars." This wasn't the first time he'd been in prison and it probably wouldn't be the last.
"Honestly I don't know, possibly someone took offense at my hair." She wasn't serious but with the way the laws around here worked it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. She recognized both of them as well, and even knew their names in passing so she didn't introduce herself. "You've arrived in the middle of the planning portion of a jail break, but as I hadn't a brilliant idea of how to get out your input is welcome."
But even if they wanted to stay, she was looking for a way to get out.
"I don't care for cells."
"We'll be glad to help with that." Jane said instantly, "not sure how, but I'm all for getting out of here." She began to walk around the holding cell to see if she could find a weak spot. "If nothing else, I can fake sick again to get them to open the door."
"If they had a regular lock I could pick it but this future shit's a pain in the ass." Dean began to look around the cell. "Makes me wish I'd found a way to keep that laser weapon." Of course if he had, he probably would have been killed without a trial.
"If it was a regular lock I wouldn't still be here," but she was fairly familiar with 'future shit' as he'd put it assuming she could find a way to access the workings. "I might be able to cross wire it, unfortunately I didn't bring my screwdriver. Or... I did but they confiscated it along with my other belongings. Which I will be getting back before I return to the inn."
Jane wasn't sure how to open the lock for River to be able to cross wire it, but she offered up anyway. It was all she had on her. "Would the wire in my underwire bra be any help?" If there were air ducts they could go through those but unfortunately they didn't have them.
As much as he'd like to see Jane take off her bra, Dean offered another alternative. "What about free time? You been in here long enough to see if there's like a prison yard or something where we're out of these cells?"
"Underwire might work, depending on how sturdy it is." She wouldn't actually mind seeing Jane take off her bra either, if pressed on the topic.
"So far I haven't been taken anywhere else for exercise, but they did mention dinner. Which might mean silverware. And if it's a single guard, we do have superior numbers."
If it would work, Jane didn't have a problem with it. She'd appeared nude on her arrival. She'd gotten over embarrassment a while ago. She began to unbutton her shirt, "if we eat dinner in a common area, that might work, if this wire doesn't. Even if there's more than a single guard, we could probably take them." She'd taken out four aliens in the bar fight and had been ready to go for more if security hadn't shown up.
"That's the spirit." He laughed and turned from what he'd been doing to look at Jane and River. "If we start some chaos that should get others going and then while them distracted with the brawl we can get out." Hopefully. "Of course we might make it worse for people that still want to go to the Station." Eh, that was something that he could live with as long as they got back to the Inn okay.
"Better if it's trays in the cell, less of a noise if we only have to subdue one guard and sneak out. But a nice prison riot would do the trick as well." River went back to inspecting the blank panel on the inside of the cell that was likely the best access to the lock.
Jane ripped the wire from her bra and handed it to River while she stuffed her bra into the back pocket of her jeans, before buttoning her shirt back. "If it's trays in the cell and we take them out, we'll have to make sure he doesn't raise an alarm or get out, too. Is there a way instead of getting the door open, you can make sure it stays locked after we get out?" Like Dean, she had no idea how wiring or anything worked in a 'futuristic' prison.
That was almost worth going to jail. Dean looked like he wasn't looking but he was totally looking when Jane took off her bra and got the wire. "So we have a Plan A and B. Anyone pay attention to how to get out of here so we don't have the whole Station on our asses?" What he wouldn't give to have his baby here. He looked at River, "Do you know where they're holding your stuff?"
"There's storage behind the front desk," she couldn't swear that was where her things were but it was her best guess. "And I have a decent idea how to get from here to there - once I have my bag I'll have the ability to hack into anything we might need to get off the station."
As long as it wasn't wood, the sonic didn't do wood.
"Too bad none of us have the ability to bring things to us like with magic and bring your bag to us." Jane went over to the front of their cell and glanced down the hallway. "It doesn't look like there's many security here. I bet there in some room just watching." It uncomfortably made her think of the Inn and if there was someone that watched their every move from a room somewhere.
"Yeah too bad." Dean muttered a bit sarcastically when he turned toward the front of the cell to look for cameras. If they had that in a Space Station. "I'd rather have a map of the place and security schedule. A molotov cocktail wouldn't...." He suddenly stopped and looked at River, "you wouldn't be able to use that wire to short circuit something enough to cause a fire would you?" Because they would definitely have some kind of fire drill to get them out. Maybe not prisoners but the people in the holding cells, definitely.... probably
"That is a smashing idea," she looked at him with new respect as she manipulated the wire to undo the screws that held the plate in place. Lucky they weren't riveted, but still it wasn't a simple task. "We could make our escape in the pandemonium of evacuation. I'm not sure how much wiring there will be to burn, we'd do better with a bit of paper or something flammable to make a real blaze. There's the lavatory paper."
That was easy enough to get, and Jane grabbed a little of the paper for River. "Let's cross our fingers that the fire suppressant isn't to take all the air out of a space." Jane was kidding, but that was also a very real possibility.
He suddenly thought of that movie with Hal or Bob or some shit that had a computer talking and taking over. "Thanks for that." Dean made a face at them both then added, "I doubt they would for the holding cell except they seemed to be really big dicks when it comes to different. Maybe they would. Hell it's not the first time I died." Or even the third. That was Dean's life.
"You can last about 15 seconds before losing consciousness from lack of oxygen, if they create a vacuum the important part will be breathing quickly to build up oxygen in the blood and then expelling all air from your lungs before the change in pressure causes it to expand and your lungs explode."
She pulled some wires out of the hole once the plate had been removed and after using her nails to strip a few of them managed to create a spark, taking the paper from Jane then doing it again until she had a bit of smoking paper to shove in the hole. Then she did it again until there was a tidy little blaze smoking inside the wall.
Jane glanced at Dean with raised eyebrows, "do we want to know how you know that?" There was amusement in her tone when Jane asked that but once the little blaze started, she waved the smoke toward the ceiling. At least she hoped there was a smoke alarm in the ceiling.
"Son of a bitch." He made a face and covered his ears as soon as an ear splitting alarm started. The plan worked as he could hear the people in the other holding cells. There was a swoosh as the door to the hallway opened and a couple of security guards came through. That told Dean all that he needed to know, they didn't think they would have too much of a problem with them. He looked over at River and Jane with a smirk, "like taking candy from a baby." As soon as he said that, there was another swoosh sound as their door opened.
"Standard education when you live in the future," not quite but it worked for a fast explanation. By the time their door opened she had tucked the bits of wire from the bra into one of her pockets just in case she needed it later and stepped back to murmur to her companions.
"Take them out now or wait and see if we can slip away in the chaos?"
"Let's see if we can slip away in the chaos." Jane said quickly. "No need to take them out if we don't have to." It was better not to leave a trail. How she knew that, Jane couldn't say, but it felt right. "There's a group headed out." Jane pointed to the 'bottleneck' of people coming out of their cells. "It looks like security's attention is there."
While Dean was usually a bull in a china shop when it came to things like rescue or escape, he knew this would be a terrible time for that. No weapons. Man, he missed the stockpile of weapons in the trunk of his baby. He honestly debated about taking them out now despite no weapons, no one would know who did it with all the people here, but he reluctantly agreed with Jane, it was probably better to wait.
"If we hang back and slip out the back hallway, would you be able to find the room your stuff's in or do we need to go out through there with everyone else and slip out?"
"I think I can find it through the back way. And once I have it there shouldn't be any difficulty with doors." River waited until she knew the guards were focused elsewhere and ducked back down the other end of the hallway and through the other door expecting the other two to follow.
Jane followed behind River and kept an eye out for more security. There was a click, click, click sound of metal on metal, the only indication that something was coming. A metal panel in the ceiling whooshed open exposing a fire fighting robot an instant before it launched itself to the ground. Three more followed the first and Jane stood perfectly still in case they followed movement.
Dean didn't know what the hell was going on but as soon as Jane stopped, he did. Then the insect robots tumbled out of the ceiling, at least they weren't rats. He watched them for what seemed like minutes but was probably seconds to see what they would do. One walked right by his leg and he held his breath. He would smash the son of a bitch if it raised an alarm, but it didn't. It scuttled around him as if he was nothing more than an object to get around, like a chair or a table. "Looks like we're good."
River had mostly ignored the robots as they scuttled past checking down two corridors at an intersection before selecting one, then another before pausing at the corner just prior to the desk where they'd been processed into the jail behind which she was fairly certain her bag was being held. She crouched and peeked around the corner.
"There's still a guard at the desk." Her tone plainly held a curse but she didn't actually say it.
"I got this." Jane said easily. "I can do damsel in distress, distraction no problem." As soon as the words were out, her whole body language changed to scared. She flashed a wink at Dean and River before running toward the security guard with wide scared eyes. Her breath came in gasps, emphasizing her braless state. "Help, I can't breathe. I got lost, I think I took a wrong turn and I can't find my way out. Is the smoke getting worse? I think the smoke is getting worse. My lungs are burning. is that normal? Do space stations have poison in their fire? I've never been on one before. Should I go to medical to make sure there's nothing wrong with me?"
And there you had a hypochondriac damsel in distress.
Dean was both amazed and amused with Jane's act. He was pretty sure it would work as needing to be a hero as well as ogling beautiful women got most people in trouble. "Can you tell how to get your stuff out if the guard moves away?" Dean was very much prepared to take the guard out if they needed to but it might not be necessary."
"Very easily if the door isn't locked behind him, slightly harder if it is." She eyed the desk, narrowing her gaze on a box next to the monitor with a number of icons on it that she thought she understood. "But I think that is a master control box."
She glanced at where the guard was focused on Jane and then back to Dean.
"Back up Jane if she needs it or if you think he's likely to notice me and I'll slip around behind him." Then she made her way along a side passage a ways and when she reappeared she was back and to one side of the guard moving stealthily as she could. She was honestly more comfortable shooting someone but, not blaster.
Jane saw over the guard's shoulder that River was making her move so she shifted her stance so that he didn't see her. She could also see that the guard was about to get frustrated with her, which amused her. It had taken much longer than she thought it would have. When River reappeared, Jane's eye grew wide with terror. "Oh my god, did you see that? That was a shadow, I know it was a shadow." She pointed down the opposite corridor. "Do you think someone was using a fire as a distraction? Who would do that to hurt innocent people like that?"
The guard shifted his gaze from Jane to the corridor in question but something must have caught his eye elsewhere because he was about to turn to look at Dean and River.
He probably shouldn't admit that he was happy that the guard wasn't as distracted as he could be. It meant Dean could fight his way out. Something he preferred to stealth. When the guard swung his head in his direction, Dean was ready for him and hit him in the jaw. What he wasn't prepared for was how much it hurt. Was it made of stone? "Son of a bitch!" Dean shook his hand like he could ease the pain in the knuckles. Before he could get another hit in, the guard hit him and sent him flying into the wall.
Okay, clearly this alien was stronger than he looked.
River was stronger than she looked too, but she usually had a blaster so instead of going after the guard with her fists like Dean as he rushed the guy she hurried to the desk, retrieved the stool he'd been sitting on and as Dean went flying she was there behind him bringing the stool down on the guards’ head.
It broke, but the guy staggered so she hit him again with what remained of the thing.
Jane took a hint from River and grabbed the something small and metal from the desk. It didn't look like the guard was totally out, though hanging on by a thread, she finished the job with a smart hit. She kept the 'weapon', to place in an area that they would pass leaving but far from the scene of the crime. "We need to get out of here now." Jane said as she went to Dean's side in case he needed help up.
"I'm good." Dean told Jane as he got to his feet a little worse for wear. He was going to have bruises on his bruises and his muscles weren't happy. He wasn't as young as he once was. He'd never thought that he was going to live this long. "And we need to blow this joint before anyone connects the dots to us." He agreed. "Go back and join the crowd with a hope no one notices we're just arriving or continue how we're going and look for another way out that no one is guarding?"
River had moved behind the desk to bend over the monitor, she tapped a few screens and the door behind her opened to reveal the storage room, then another and she turns the screen to face the other two.
"Cameras. Not too extensive, see if you can find us a way out. Don't worry about doors." Once she had her bag they shouldn't pose too much of an issue.
Jane hadn't spent much time in front of a computer. The only exposure she had to it was at the Inn and apparently they were old. So she looked to Dean to find a way out. "I'm not good with computers. It's all yours." She motioned to Dean.
Dean looked at the monitor, he wasn't Sam when it came to computers, but he was a lot better than he had been. His fingers tapped through the screens watching the video feed for a minute, "okay it looks like the route of less resistance is going forward. Take a right, follow the passage down until we come to the fourth corridor on the left, that should meet up with a service exit, or at least it looks like one with the carts around it." It kind of looked like it led to a delivery for the kitchen or trash. He couldn't tell from the covered carts. He looked at River, "as long as doors aren't a problem I say we head that way."
River was wearing a bag slung across her body when she came back, and was rummaging in it as though doing an inventory - which she was. Then she pulled out her sonic screw driver and smiled widely at Dean.
"Doors will not be a problem." She'd already tried various of the settings on doors on the station, just in case, obviously. Then she aimed at the panel and with a high pitched whirring noise the cameras on screen all went black. "Service exit it is."
Jane looked at the device a little skeptical, but if River said it would open doors then it would. Almost as soon as she had that thought, a weird sound emitted from it and the monitors all died. "I can see why they took that away from you." Jane said with a wide smile and then turned to leave, following Dean's directions. Hopefully they wouldn't run into any more security.
"Nice." Dean whistled softly when the gizmo opened the door before slipping down the corridor. He took the right and then the left he'd seen on the monitors, but thankfully there weren't any security. At least none that he could see. "Okay, there's the carts I saw. Unless this is a duplicate and they all look alike, but I say what the hell." He tried to push open the door and nothing. Dean tried harder, and still nothing, He was about to ask River to open it with her gizmo when he noticed a button next to it. Feeling stupid he pushed the button and with a soft whoosh it opened.
"No smart ass comments." He looked at both women, but there was amusement in his voice when he said it. "Here's hoping the chute leads out." Dean grasped the sides and climbed in feet first. He had no idea what was down there but he'd take a broken leg over a cracked head.
The women would have heard, "well shit." from down below when Dean landed.
By the time she heard it, it was too late as River had already swung herself up and through the opening of the shoot with a whoop and a, "Geronimo!"
Probably she is obviously enjoying this more than she should be.
Jane laughed at River's enthusiasm and climbed in after her without a care to Dean's comment which she probably should have. The smell hit her before she reached the opening and of course it was way too late to turn back by that point. She landed with a soft splat and food waste up to her waist. At least she hoped it was food waste. Jane didn't want to look too close in case Dean's comment was literal.
"Well the answer to your question was that it definitely went outside of the jail but I'm not sure we'll go unnoticed out of here." She smiled with a wrinkled nose.
"On the bright side, no one will try to stop us. The stink will be our own natural force field." Dean chuckled and moved toward the other side where he hoped was a way out. "You still have your stuff River?" Because if she didn't, she was out of luck. No way was Dean going to feel around in the trash for it.
"Safe and sound," she assured him, squelching her way toward what looked like a hatch. Once there she tried it, found it sealed and rummaged in her bag before using the sonic to unlock it. "But these shoes will never be the same."
Among other articles of clothing.
Jane squished her way to stand near River and Dean at the opening. "I think I'll add one more crime to my list and steal some clothes." Because as much as she appreciated the free clothes at the Inn, she wasn't willing to wait that long to get out of her current ones.
Dean was so used to being covered in crap when he was hunting that it didn't even register anymore. He helped pull open the door that was a bit above the crap which meant going up. It was either go up first and help pull or use his hands as a step up for both women. Yeah, he didn't want his hands touching whatever they were stepping in so he hoisted himself up and held out his hand to River.
"Might not grab clothes, but I am taking about an hour and a half hot shower to make sure all this shit is off me."
"You're guaranteed to start a riot if you don't grab clothes." River eyed him up and down before the whir of the lock clicking open and the hatch swung out distracted her. She took a moment to check the corridor was clear before giving him a wink as she pulled herself out. "But don't let that stop you."
Jane slipped her hand in his to get help up. Her feet were slippery and she didn't want to accidentally fall into whatever they were waist deep in. "Thanks and I have to agree with River about the riots." She shot him a grin as she moved to follow River and breathed through her mouth rather than nose to ignore the stench.
"Hey, if we need the distraction of a riot, I will be happy to volunteer." Dean smirked as he followed the women through the corridor to the exit. At least he hoped it was an exit. He'd only looked so far on the surveillance cameras.
"I'm tempted to create a scene where we need the riot to get out of here," River said with a laugh glancing up and down the corridor they were in, noting the markings of level and location. "But I think we're on the main level, so we really just need to get to the lift that will take us to the shuttle back to the inn."
And since there didn't seem to be an alarm out for their escape as of yet, she thought that might be as simple as walking through the hub like normal - despite their odiferousness.
Jane's amusement at the conversation was evident as she followed River toward the elevator. "As much as I like River's plan, I vote we get the hell out of here as soon as possible before that guard wakes up and alerts everyone what happened."
"I'm all for that plan." Dean agreed with both women and when they reached the elevator he pushed the button to get out as quickly as possible. "I am not going to jinx us by saying anything but fingers crossed this is it." The doors slid open with a whoosh and he stepped inside just as a siren went off. "Well, hell."
River paused for a moment when the alarm went off, her pulse jumping - this was like the old days.
"We may need that distraction after all," she stepped into the elevator and grinned at them as she turned to apply the sonic to the control panel. "All aboard, the nonstop express elevator to the shuttle."
Jane's senses went on alert as she followed River inside the elevator, but there was also adrenaline. It was a good feeling. "Okay. whatever that is." She pointed to the sonic in River's hand. "That is definitely worth getting it out of their holdings." She was pretty sure it came with River, but it would still be nice to have, if it were available.
"I second that." Dean said, but it was a little muffled as he took off his shirt. Hopefully he wouldn't have to go full on to get to the shuttle, but he'd do it. He'd done worse before. "What is that thing anyway?" It looked like a weird ass sex toy.
The doors slid shut and with a jolt the car moved swiftly toward the docking level. No stops.
"It was a gift from my husband before I came here. Sonic screwdriver. Handy little thing." She dropped it back in her bag and then enjoyed the view of Dean without a shirt until the lift stopped and the doors slid open.
Jane was prepared for a fight as soon as the doors slid open but fortunately there wasn't security waiting for them. She stepped off and looked from side to side. "I think the coast is clear." Which was probably the wrong thing to say because just as she moved further down the corridor there was a digital screen every few feet from the ceiling that flashed their pictures. "Well it looks like we're popular."
"Damn, my first mugshot looked a lot better." Dean chuckled but kept up a normal pace. "The trick is to blend in, don't try to hide or do anything that would draw attention." He looked down at himself and at the other two women, "yeah we already stand out." He turned to River, can your Sonic screwdriver do anything to change the pictures at least down here." He didn't care if it was broadcast in the station, just where they were going to be.
"It's a screwdriver, it doesn't do art." But she pulled it out of her bag and with a few clicks and a whir she applied it to the nearest screen causing it and all the others to suddenly have a bad case of static. "It does do interference though."
The pictures were still visible but pixelated and covered in white noise to the point where they really could be anyone.
Jane watched in fascination as the pictures on the screen suddenly dissolved into 'snow'. "That really is a great tool." She flashed a grin over to River and moved further down the corridor. She noticed that a couple of people gave her wide berth but Jane assumed it was from the smell than escaped prisoner. "And first mugshot? How many have you had?"
It hadn't been the first time that Dean had broken the law or even the twelfth, that he had his first mug shot. "It was for a case. A friend of my father's got a message to us that the prison he was in was haunted. Sam and I had to go in and the best way to get there was to get arrested." He smirked, "it's surprisingly easy. I did the Blue Steel look for the mug shot." Dean paused in the corridor and demonstrated to River and Jane the look. "Cops weren't amused." He had been.
"Cops are never amused. Wait a few millennia, and they join up with church and get even less amused." River told him with a laugh. She is only sort of kidding. "But is does make it so much more fun to corrupt them."
Jane was amused at the conversation. "I wish I knew if I could add to the observations of cops and being arrested, but ..." She let the sentence trail off with a chuckle. "I am getting really good tips if it happens again."
Shit. Dean didn't even want to think about cops and church getting together. That would be close to a nightmare. Instead, he focused on what Jane had said and the fun bits of what River had said. He winked at both women, "Stick with us, Jane. River and I will be happy to corrupt you. It seems we're both good at it." River with cops apparently... and others, if Dean read the vibes right.
Really with anyone.
"But first we have to get back to the Inn, and then showers are in order." Luckily the doors to the shuttle that would take them back to the Inn were just ahead and miraculously not guarded.
Jane picked up her pace, it wasn't that far, but she didn't want to jinx them or get over confident. Once there she opened the doors for both River and Dean. "I'm actually looking forward to seeing the pink inn."
"Yeah, I never thought I'd think the same thing." Dean had to agree though his expression denied it. "But give it a week and I'll look forward to another space station."
