Video Game Challenge (OTA)

It was a shame not a lot of people seemed to like renting the various video game consoles the makeshift library had to offer the Madonna Inn. Quill was a frequent visitor to the library, but rather took out a book. Gamora would be annoyed with him, but the video games held more interest to him. A lot of the games were new to him as they had come out after he left Earth. Quill was delighted to explore them.

Multplayer games were much more fun with people. He dragged a TV into the lobby and set up a Super Nintendo. He sat on one of the ostentatious couches and was currently playing Super Mario Kart while he waited for some challengers. On the coffee table there was also a cartridge for Donkey Kong Country and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

"Yeah, yeah." Rocket's tail was puffed out with annoyance, and he'd probably taught anyone within yelling-range who new strings of profanity over the last couple of games, but despite that the stupid thing was actually fun.

Who knew, Quill had good ideas sometimes. "I'm gonna banana-peel you so fuckin' hard you'll wish Peach was in charge again."

And indeed it didn't. Rocket had had tactics programmed into him along with his other skills, and they seemed to work okay even in video games. On top of that, he had zero respect for the road, sometimes flinging himself off the edge in order to shortcut parts he found boring.

It didn't always work, though. The AI racers didn't learn, but Quill did. They'd probably sort out pretty close to even, sooner or later. Which was honestly for the best. Rocket liked winning, but it was more fun when it wasn't always so easy. "Hey, just so's ya know, Quill? I'm happy you're here."

He'd been doing his own thing a lot and letting Quill do his, but he'd spent years in Gotham with all new people. Just having Quill exist made this place a lot better.

Rocket was concentrating on the game, victory was in sight! And then his little car thing went off the tracks not on purpose because Quill tackled him.

He couldn't help thrashing, but he didn't bite or claw. It was Quill after all, and even if he'd fight being pinned or whatever, he wasn't actually going to bite one of the few real friends he had. Not that he was above threatening. "I GOT TEETH QUILL. FUCKIN' SHARP TEETH!"

"You just wanted to win," Rocket grumbled, but settled himself a little closer to Quill than he had before, once he reclaimed his controller. "But you're not gonna fuckin' win. Ya cheater."
