No -you're- brooding (OTA)

Alec sat at the bar with a bottle of Jack Daniels almost empty in front of him, though he was using a glass like a regular person. Still, despite his almost completion of an entire bottle, he looked like a man just starting on his journey of getting drunk - stupid genes.

He was trying not to dwell or let his mind wander, but he was doing a terrible job at that. Stark being here seemed to dredge up a lot of things Alec would most definitely prefer to keep bottled away - at least he hadn't disappeared to the woods?

He reached for a bottle of vodka. Round two: start.

"I dunno, given how most of us feel about our rooms, that might be a good thing," Corbie pointed out with a shrug.

His lips tugged into a bit of a smirk at that. Actually, out of all the Avengers, the Hulk was the one who didn't sound half bad.

He took another sip of his drink, then paused. "I feel like there's something you know and you're not sharing with the class."

Corbie blinked, large eyes opening wide. "What d'you mean?"

"You usually ask me these sorts of questions when you have some sort of conclusion you want me to get to." He was observant and he'd fucked up enough around Corbie to sense a pattern. He looked at her fondly, though, and not accusingly.

Oh, that. Corbie shrugged. She couldn't always figure out just what the problem is, only she could still take a guess about the broader context. "Dunno. Only that I think you're upset 'cause this hit a nerve somewhere that ain't entirely about Peter."

Alec paused to think about that. He swirled around the liquid in his glass. "Just trying to figure out where I stand, I guess."

"About Peter? About Stark?" Corbie asked, lifting her chin from her palm. "About being attached?"

Alec looked to her, then did a palms up. "Yes?"

That was a fair answer. Corbie gave him a little smile. "Good luck, then. That's gotta be a lot of untangling."

She was quiet a moment before she lowered her hand and folded her arms on the bar. "I got to have a talk with Liz, by the way."

Alec appreciated the change of topic - introspective stuff was not his forte.

"Did she agree to stop being an idiot?" He knew that was harsh, but Alec didn't really 'get' teenagers.

"Uh," Corbie's eyes darted to one side. "Define 'idiot.'" It wasn't exactly the wrong word for some pieces of Liz. She was amazingly book smart, but she had no idea what real problems were.

His lips quirked a little in an almost smile. "The sort that teams up with the moron -" Alec enjoyed using Thor's name for Quill. "and almost gets herself killed." While Alec didn't exactly keep tabs on the girl or care too much about her well being, he knew should something happen that Peter would be upset and that was what tugged him to care as much as he did.

Corbie did smile, and she nodded. "Ah, then if that's the definition, then I think she's got that out of her system. I'm hoping I convinced her that if she really wants to learn to fight, she should learn from somebody who's a better match for her. Somebody who ain't super strong or fast, 'cause she ain't ever gonna be that. And somebody she feels comfortable questioning. Or else she's gonna end up with another idiot who pushes her too far too fast." Preferably also a woman, but Corbie didn't know if anybody would hit all three of those.

"Not a bad idea." He remembered when Peter asked Alec to give him some moves to help Liz defend herself and it was all basic self-defense moves made for people smaller and weaker. He had tried to tell Peter at that time that that was the most useful thing she could learn. How to escape and run.

"Thank you. I know it's not really any of your business, but I'd have messed the whole thing up if I tried to say something."

Corbie shrugged. "Liz kicks herself enough. I dunno why, but it ain't gonna help her to tell her she can't or shouldn't do something."

Though really, the girl was so down on herself and so constantly embarrassed that Corbie was starting to wonder if she had a thing for being humiliated.

Which basically proved his point right there. Alec wasn't really good with 'finesse'. "Well, I guess I owe you one." One 'what' he didn't know, but the offer was made.

Corbie kissed his cheek. "You don't owe me anything, I was glad to do it."

As always, he smiled almost instantly when he received the kiss. "For the record, you're one of my favourite people here." Which was close to him saying he was attached as he probably would say.

"I know," she said, giving him a cheeky grin in answer. But it softened when she added, "You're one of my favorite people, too."
