strangetrip | [EP] Community service for some reason

That morning, Loki had finally gotten around to the piece of paper he'd been handed along with his room key, and... well, it was definitely interesting. Apparently not checking in for two weeks in favor of scouting the Inn as a kitten meant that he'd been involuntarily assigned to 'community service' in the infirmary.

It was ridiculous. He wasn't a healer. Oh, ~~his mother~~ ~~Frigga~~ his mother had tried to teach him healing magic, and the theory had been easy enough, but barring one or two minor successes healing his brother of minor injuries, the practical had always escaped him. Eventually his mother had removed healing from his lessons, and not long after that Loki himself had stopped trying.

It was ridiculous.

It didn't matter, though, where he did his reading and thinking, and at least waving vaguely in the direction of being productive would probably very slightly soothe the fears of anyone who thought he, for example, made a habit out of flinging people out of windows. (He'd only done that once. It wasn't a habit.)

Therefore he swung by the library, relieved it of all the medical texts a quick rummage presented, hauled the books to the clininc, and staked out a desk area more or less out of the way. As nearly as he could tell, anyway; regardless, a small wall made of books hopefully separated him nicely from anyone looking for help.

"It'll hold me for a few days." Loki flashed a smile at the woman. Why not? She was pretty, she clearly either hadn't heard of or didn't care about his monstrosity, and it looked like she'd brought more books. "A few days plus one, probably, if those are for me."

"Indeed they are, just returned this morning," Sunny confirmed as she strode further into the room and offered the books over the pile with a flourish. "I'm sure you have a system, even if it's just maximum avoidance of people. I don't want to mess up your piles."

"Not just," he agreed cheerily, accepting the books. It wasn't even avoidance of people so much as avoidance of people who specifically wanted to try and get him to heal. But she wasn't wrong, the books had in fact been sorted and stacked fairly carefully. "Re-sorting wouldn't be a problem, but I do appreciate it. I don't believe we've met yet...?"

"Sunny," she offered. "Sunny Nwazue." And because there was no better way to distinguish her from other people who had responded to Thor's journal post. "I asked the question about the spider horse."

"Sleipnir is one of my favorites." They'd also, if he recalled, discussed the idiocy of older siblings. "I'm pleased to meet you in person, Sunny." He actually was, for a wonder. It had been a short but entertaining text conversation.

"Likewise." Dean's performance aside, Sunny hadn't laughed quite that hard in weeks. It wasn't often you got to meet anybody's family around here, which to some might be a blessing, but she enjoyed the context. Thor was such a... well, he was like a big, excited golden retriever. Loki didn't strike her that way at all. "So what exactly brings a trickster god to an infirmary? This seems rather more intentional than when the Bifrost dumped Thor in the library."

"He must have been so confused," Loki murmured, unable to resist the minor dig. But then he returned to the actual question. "It's very intentional. The Inn seems to be offended when people don't check in on arrival. I was two weeks late, so!" He gestured, taking in the infirmary. "Community service! I suspect everyone will regret it before the end."

Sunny pulled a face. "Lovely. Insult to injury. Though I'm not sure if I should be glad the front desk has more ways to do that than blatant racism or afraid that maybe Darryl is more conscious than he appears."

"I'd go with glad, myself, but I believe Darryl is as inert as he seems to be. I'm more inclined to suspect the as-yet-unseen warden of this place." It was prison, whoever or whatever was the 'warden' no doubt looked for ways to upset the residents.

"True," Sunny admitted with a sigh, tucking one of her braids behind her ear. "If dignity were a priority, we wouldn't be stuck in a Barbie hotel." She knew she'd read once that pink was used in some prisons to humiliate people in solitary confinement. Perhaps that was some of the motive behind that--take a bunch of people, a disproportionate number of them fighters or otherwise powerful folk, and surround them with the 'girl' color.
