Training - Tag Mack

Annie was excited as she bounded through the hall. Mack promised to train with her. She should have been in her superhero costume, but she had decided to wear a dress with her hair up in braids. Annie was even wearing mascara. They were to meet outside of the inn in the parking lot and go from there. As she headed for the parking lot, Annie felt butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't seem to stop them every time she got to talk to Mack.

Outside, she glanced around. She was early, but she knew he'd be there.

Mack was in board shorts. When he trained in his kitsune form it didn't really matter what he wore, but they were comfortable and not pink!

He paused when he saw Annie in the dress and thought that maybe he got the day wrong and she was waiting for someone else. So he smiled and waved on his approach. "Hey."

Her smile was bright and excited.

"Hi Mack!" She said. "I'm really excited to train today with you! I promise I'll be able to keep up."

That answered that question. He had got the right day and time. Maybe she was like a comic hero and she wore her superhero outfit under her clothes.

"Me, too. Uh, I mean excited to train, not the keeping up part." Mack smiled. "How do you normally train? Do you like pretend battles or... for me, our teacher throws stuff at us and we use our powers. Well, except for Fiona, she's a selkie so she trains in the pool."

"Um, well," she said thoughtfully. "Loki has been praying practicing balancing on things... And my dad has me doing target practice with the web shooters he made me. I'm not allowed to use them without him though. Before I had teachers, I used to just pratice jumping from things to things... So I don't know."

"I guess we'll figure it out together." Mack assured her. "So you haven't done like practice fights. Maybe we should work our way up to that." He thought about it for a minute.

"Okay, how about I change into my kitusne form and you try to catch me? Either by corralling me or actually catching me."

"Okay!" She said excitedly. "I'm pretty fast, but I do want to get faster!"

She was looking forward to training with someone closer to her age.

It didn't take long for Mack to switch to his other form which was ironic since he had been the last of his friends that did change. Between one breath and the next a three tailed kitsune stood in Mack's place. Under its paws were little tuffs of smoke from the fire inside.

Since he couldn't communicate with her like he did his friends as a Changer, Mack just took off running hoping that Annie would follow.

Watching Mack turn into a kistune was incredible. She almost wished that she could turn into an animal too, but Annie wasn't sure she wanted to turn into a spider.

Her eyes were wide and filled with excitement.

"That was so cool!" She said as she ran after him.

She was fast, but he was faster with four legs. She was excited to find out just exactly how skilled Mack was and learn from him

While Mack could understand Annie easily enough, unfortunately, she didn't have the advantage that Shifter's had with telepathic communication. All she would hear would be his sharp yips.

He was impressed that she was able to keep up. Kitsunes were very fast on their own and Mack had got faster with help from training with Gabriella. "Catch me if you can!" Mack yipped at Annie and took a sharp left that would allow her to cut him off - if she was quick enough.

Annien was slightly delayed at realizing what Mack wanted. She turned and pushed herself to try to catch him. She almost did, his tail swooshing by just as she intersected with him. If she had her web shooters, she would have definitely caught him.

"I won't give up that easily!" She declaired as she took off after him again.

There was a kitsune laugh if you could hear the subtle sounds Mack made between the normal yips.

There was also mischief in his eyes when he sped up but then suddenly stopped and turned in a different direction. He was pretty sure that she would be expecting it this time, though maybe not the timing of it.

Annie managed to compensate this time as she pushed herself to go faster. She wished her dad was around to see her. She was sure she was going the fastest she had ever gone before.

As she neared him, her arms stretched out. She hoped to touch him.

Mack could feel Annie's fingertips brush his fur and he let out a delighted yip. He went a little bit further before he turned back to himself almost between one blink and the next.

"That was great." Excitement vibrated through him. He hadn't had the same type of workout like he had at home with his friends until now. "You did really good with keeping up with me."

She was excited when he turned back and gleeful that he was praising her.

"Thanks!" She said, practically bouncing, "I worked really hard. You're so fast!"

"Kitsunes can run miles in minutes." He hadn't run as fast as he could have because he knew that a human couldn't keep up. Even one with super powers. But, he had run faster than he did when he trained with Jane and Buffy.

"You did really good keeping up with me and tagging."

Her grin widened.

"One day maybe I'll get faster than you," She said, giggling softly. "And then you have to catch me."

He actually hadn't been running as fast as he could in his form. Kitsunes can run many miles in just minutes, but he was used to not running full steam with his friends.

"I'd just use my fire arrows." Mack teased her.

Her eyes went wide.

"You have fire arrows?" She asked in awe.

He's just so cool. Annie's sudden thought caused her to blush.

"One of my powers is fire. It's why you saw scorch marks and smoke in my footsteps when I ran." Mack started to explain. "I can't manipulate fire like some people here. I just have fire but it stays with me when I'm normal, too."

He smiled and turned to face a small area with rocks so he wouldn't accidentally catch something on fire. Mack held up his hand, he didn't know how it happened, but it was just there. Magic, but it wasn't a spell he thought, it just appeared. He drew back his other arm, as if he were shooting an invisible bow and perhaps he was. An arrow of fire extended from his outstretched hand and with his 'release' the arrow landed among the rocks where it burned for a minute and then disappeared.

She sucked in a quick breath.

"Wow!" She said. "Amazing! You are totally a superhero, you know that right?"

Mack chuckled and shook his head. "I'm not but I hope to be one some day. When I get a lot better at this shifting thing."

"I think you'd be good now." She said.

Her eyes widened with a sudden idea.

"We should make a team of people who aren't grown ups," She said. "We could help the older super heroes if things go bad."

"Or we could be our own team, not just helping the adults if things go bad." Mack suggested. He and his friends fought the Warlock and while other Changers definitely helped in the war, they fought as equals.

Annie liked this idea best. She nodded enthusiastically.

"Let's do it!" She said. "We'll be the best ever!"
