[Arrival GP] it’s summer, right?

June, Xavin decided, was a puzzling month. It still seemed like spring in some ways, but was very summer already in others. Among the ways that it was summer: less demand for hot drinks. And yes, she could do iced, but that tended to mean hauling ice to her coffee-cart territory and that got old fast.

Since it was arrival day, therefore, she was trying something new. She’d taken over part of the cafe (with a decentish view of the lobby) and set it up with blenders, fruits, and other things. Surely smoothies would be acceptable, and the cafe space meant not having to haul ice.

As a further acknowledgement of probable sun and warmth, Xavin ensured there were obvious stacks of towels near the more usual baskets of things for new arrivals. If there were any newcomers and she’d forgotten something, well... it would probably be all right eventually.

Aphrodite was mixed between this kid obviously being nice to her and him being... well, maybe he was cute by mortal standards for a kid, she didn't know. Her eyes wandered over the boy assessingly. He did seem to know his stuff.

"What's your name, kid?"

"My name's Toby. Technically, I'm a Duke so Duke Toby if you fancy." He smiled showing every bit of his braces. It was more of a Puckish grin but he tried.

And sure he was only a Duke because his best friend Jim was Spring Fling King but Toby could work with that!

"You're a Duke?" That caught her attention and she looked him over again. Aphrodite knew not all Dukes looked like Dukes, but he looked young. "Duke of what?"

"Duke of Arcadia." Well he was the only Duke in his hometown of Arcadia. So that totally counted!

"I was a King once! But I stepped down because what the Quagawumps really needed was a Queen." That was true, but he was only a King for like an hour until they figured out he wasn't their reincarnated long lost King that he coincidentally looked like.

He was still really good friends with Queen Wumpa. She and the Quagawumps even helped him defeat Morgana.

Aphrodite was having a hard time picturing him as a Duke much less a King, but then she remembered that mortals were very strange. "Quagawumps. Sounds like a type of mud I'd put on my face for facials."

Toby grinned showing his full set of braces. "They were actually in the Florida swamps so it would have probably had some mud that you could use." Though Toby thought it would be weird to put mud on your face on purpose.

She scrunched her nose. "Sorry kid, I don't do swamps. Or Florida. It's way too humid - have you seen what humid does to hair?" True, Aphrodite didn't have to let that happen to her hair, but it was the principle of the thing.

Her hands went on her hips as she started to look around. "Alright, well, I guess I should figure out where in Hades I'm going to spend my time. Where I'll sent up my temple. etc. etc."

"OH a temple. There's one of those here. I bet you could get a job there, not that anyone really needs a job but hey it will keep you busy." Toby said helpfully, though probably not.

She scrunched her nose again. "I'll pass on the work, thanks." Aphrodite didn't do work. Clearly this kid had a lot to learn. "Plus I don't share. If there are other gods being worshiped there -" Aphrodite wiggled her fingers in the direction she sensed the temple "- I so don't want to be there too. I'll figure something out." She winked at him. "If you ever find someone you got a crush on, come ask me for some advice. I have a feeling you'll need it."

She bent a little and with her index finger gave him a little tap on his nose. Then she disappeared in a flourish of golden sparkles.

For half a second, Toby was in awe of the gold sparkles. Thor really needed to do that when he teleported. BUT then he scowled at the empty space where she'd been. "HEY! I don't need crush advice. I have a GIRLFRIEND and Darci's the best!" He was smart enough to hold his tongue and not add that she was prettier than her - even though she was, at least in Toby's eyes.
