This Deer Was On Fire - OTA

Bo should really keep cooking to the professionals. The thing was, she had been getting so tired of chicken that she was desperate for a steak or something. Dyson had brought in deer meat and she decided she was going to make a steak with some of it - she really was good at burning things.

She walked out of the kitchen that was slightly smokey with a very black and crispy steak. She had hoped the new lighting of the restaurant itself would have give new life to the deer meat, but it didn't. She sunk into a nearby chair and sighed. Maybe there was some meat salvageable on the inside?

Bo and Loki

"You are not a good cook," Loki informed her, dropping into a seat across from her. As usual, he'd seemed to come out of nowhere. This time, it wasn't because he'd planned to but because he'd been practicing invisibility. (You didn't maintain his level of skill without practice.) "Even I might have trouble choking that down, and I've eaten old, rotten shark on multiple occasions."

"Did you get distracted, or...?" Cooking meat seemed like the easiest thing. Put it over heat, cook until appropriately colored for your taste. "I'm not mocking, I'm honestly curious."

"I could, but it wouldn't be real." Loki tilted his head. "I could conceivably make you believe your charcoal is a delicious meal."

“I’m sure there are cookbooks in the library or the kitchen. Instructions might make things easier for you.” Recipes were what made cooking easy, after all. “And yes. She showed up in my bathtub briefly. I’d never before met someone worse at respecting privacy than my brother.”

“I imagine so!” An immortal food source that wouldn’t have required her to negotiate a deal with her Sam? Clearly that would have made her life easier. Not that Loki could exactly regret the lack, given that he’d very much enjoyed his time with Bo. “It’s still nice to have the option now, though, yes?”

"On the whole, she probably is who she says she is, but I don't trust her." He shrugged. 'Loki doesn't trust someone' would hardly be news to Bo. "She seems very... specifically focused for someone whose god portfolio is as broad as 'love'."

"All the pink and frills and so on. If her portfolio is love, why focus so strongly on 'the visual trappings of sappy romantic love'? Even I know that 'love' as a concept is much broader than that, but all she presents is what's easy to dismiss." Loki's private bet was that the alleged goddess of love knew exactly what she was doing. Aphrodite didn't have any of the brittle edge of someone trying to do a lot with a little, and she did have the confidence of someone who did precisely as she pleased, when she pleased. She didn't lack power. "Either she actually is that small, or she wants people to underestimate her. My bet is the latter."

He spread his hands. “Do you think love is dangerous?”

It was, quite possibly, one of the most dangerous forces in existence. Yes. “There’s your answer, then.”

It wasn’t hard to make the leap from discussing the possible danger of the goddess of love to where Bo’s thoughts had landed. “We haven’t discussed a date yet. Some Friday, certainly.”

“Oh, you’re definitely on my side. I’d love to see you tripping up the opposition.” The idea of Bo getting married was strange, not only because of hr nature, but because Bo tended to reflexively fight cages of any kind. It was something he appreciated about her. “But how did that happen?”

She’d mentioned that ‘Loki’ was just a type of fae where she came from, so that wasn’t the part that made Loki frown slightly. “You couldn’t have killed him and widowed yourself before then?”

“Eat him, then kill him. You’d survive a lightning strike if you could heal
yourself after.” Loki shrugged. “For the future, just in case. Murder is always an option.” It wasn’t always the best option, but it never left the table.

"Never fear, I genuinely want to be married to her. Killing her would be intolerably painful for me." Technically murder was never entirely off the table with anyone, but the level of... something... that would require it to be moved out of a thoroughly dusty and neglected corner of the table was almost impossible to imagine.

As close to being off the table as it was possible to get, really.

"She'd absolutely try." And almost certainly succeed, eventually. Brunnhilde was stronger than he was, a cunning survivor, and she had a ruthless sadistic streak - she wouldn't be turned aside if she decided he needed to die. "And after that, she'd tell our fish a heavily embroidered tale of her heroism."

“We have almost three dozen fish, actually.” Loki tilted his head slightly. “Have you tried cacti? I hear they’re essentially immortal.”
