strangetrip | [GP/EP] Check-In Day: Pastabilities

The last check-in day had come and gone as quietly as most other days, but Tony had made it a point to linger around the lobby every two weeks. It was tradition, after all. You could only be cynical about a pink eldritch prison for so long before you felt the need to inject some decorum, however half-assed.

During a quiet trip to a Wisconsin suburb Otherworlds, Tony had snagged an old Harley-Davidson calendar at a garage sale (why not), unique in that the previous owner had filled every single square with national holidays. Today was National Linguine Day. Truly, the most hallowed of all holidays. To celebrate, he made an order to the kitchen to bless the inn with trays of pasta, inclusive to all diets. No gluten or dairy for him, see how long that lasted.

Despite the swift approach of fall, San Luis Obispo boasted sun and 70 degree weather, so Tony arranged a chair and table outside and fiddled with a little mechanical orb the size of a jawbreaker. He prodded at its insides with a screwdriver while his half-eaten pasta dish sat ignored, his glasses magnifying the orb's internal features.

Loki grinned. "As it's a competition with only one entry, I should hope not! I had you going for a few seconds, though."

"Then you smiled." Tony looked from 'her' mouth to the spider combing its feet through 'her' hair. "No disrespect--you've got a Pretty Woman era Julia Roberts thing going on. Not a bad look."

"I have no idea who that is. This is the face I always use when I decide female shape is appropriate." Loki ignored the tiny spider's antics in his hair. He had a lot of it, the creature didn't seem to be doing any harm, and no doubt it would worry people to see a metal spider on a pretty lady's head. "So perhaps she had a me look."

"Is there some incognito plot underway, or you just woke up on the fair side of the bed?" Really, it could go any way with Loki, and he didn't strictly expect to get the truth.

"It's possible that I lost a bet involving sandals and the color pink." Loki smiled brightly and gestured at the pink and sandals. "Ta-dah!"

Tony worked his jaw from side to side and reached for his forgotten cup of coffee as he tried not to laugh--Loki had nothing if not comedic timing.

"Okay...Thor or the Lieutenant?"

“The Valkyrie.” Loki fetched the spider out of his hair and set it back on the table. “Thor knows that this is how I get out of these little wagers, so he doesn’t challenge my clothing options.” Thor was more likely to request that Loki ‘be nice’ for a set period of time, or something. “My lovely fiancée is likely to just make a note and plot accordingly.”

The spider raised its forelegs and scissored them together, as if grooming itself. Tony gave it an odd look and gave its back a tap, prompting the little bot to retract its limbs so he could continue his tinkering.

"This bet involve the dwarves again?" They made bank the last time Valkyrie won a drinking contest. Later that night, after being regaled the story, Tony had a dream about attending an AA meeting with everyone involved. Nice, Stark.

"I know who I'm marrying. I'd never bet against her fortitude in any competition with dwarves." Loki waved a hand dismissively. "No, no. Ancient mushrooms and their effects, nothing more."

Snorting, Tony delicately removed a screw within the spider’s abdomen. “Well, damn, don’t stop the story there. Did you pack your bags for that trip?”
