[GP] Réveillon & New Year's Eve & Check-In

Emma had said, during Winter's Crest, that she missed a tradition from home called réveillon. She seemed also to miss her cousin, as Lillith missed hers. Since she wished both to learn to cook and to be of comfort to her friend, it had been decided they would make a réveillon dinner for New Year's Eve.

Yet when Emma began to lay out the courses -- oyster soup and potato & leek soup, salad, a gumbo, venison roast, cheeses, and creme brulee, plus several hors d'ouevres not yet decided -- Lillith quailed at the size of the undertaking. Surely she would wish someone to assist who could contribute more than roasted rabbit, wheat or potato flour dumplings, and koláč.

Since Sunny likewise missed her family and would certainly wish a distraction, when she entered the cafe where they were planning, the other two seized upon her almost at once. Sunny could hardly resist their dual entreaty, even had she wished to, and Lillith thought she seemed even more ready for company than previously. Of course Sunny had offerings of her own: jolloff rice, peppered chicken, and fried plantain.

Between they three, the planning and the cooking were very nearly merry, and Lillith kept them liberally supplied with champagne (her personal favorite), too. By late afternoon of the eve of the new year, they had begun lining tables with dishes, and enlisted the help of other friends to make the evening event widely known.

Of course, in addition to the réveillon feast that took over the steakhouse, alcohol flowed freely, lights sparkled brightly, the nightclub had music for dancing. And at some point the Inn or Caroline or Regina hung mistletoe from several of the primary entrances and exits so that unless one wished to or was unaware of the tradition, no one (not even any new arrivals) need greet the new year unkissed.

Dean snickered, he couldn't help it. He really was a ten year old boy inside. "He's wearing perve's armor? That I'd like to see. Full body armor?" His imagination was having fun with it. "Raven Queen, huh? Dark hair or really a bird woman?"

"As soon as you see him, you'll know. It's a full set of black, studded leather armor. Sometimes there are big black wings coming out of it." She took a quick look around the bar but didn't see him. "Definitely not a bird woman. The one time I saw her, she did have long black hair. Oh, she's also the goddess of death"

"Seriously?" Dean shifted his demeanor from ten year old boy to Hunter that quick. He raised the beer to his lips and took a nice swallow of the liquid. "So, Raven Queen and goddess of Death. We talking reaper or Death itself?"

He knew different worlds, different times, whatever but he was trying to picture Death as a female with long black hair and he was coming up empty. He had a creeped out picture in his head.

"Um, neither, I think," Pike's head fell to the side. Death seemed like the natural force, not something that could be personified. It just was. "From what I've been told, she's the protector of the natural order of life and death. So, she really hates the undead."

Dean gave a soft snort. She'd really hate him and Sam. He'd lost count the number of times that they'd died and come back or at least gone to Hell and come back.

"Man, she'd really hate this place with people out of time and reality. It's definitely not the natural order of life and death here."

"I can't even begin to understand how she'd feel about things," Pike she shrugged, "But she's helped me bring Vax back to life, so maybe she wouldn't mind this?"

Pike laughed, shaking her head slightly, "Here I was trying to flirt and somehow it's turned into a theological discussion about death...and I still don't know your real name."

Dean arched an eyebrow. "What makes you think my name isn't my real name? And you're doing a bang up job of flirting." His lips quirked.

“Am I wrong?” Pike’s brow echoes his in a graceful arc of its own as a smirk tugged at her lips. “I’d even wager a guess that the name you chose had some cheeky meaning to it.”

She wasn’t sure if she was going to believe him about her flirting, but for right now she didn’t really care. This was fun and he was hot. What more did she need?

"You're not wrong." Dean admitted, still amused, "to both. He's a kick ass character in a movie that survives a lot. Me in another life if I was a Marine fighting aliens."

“Ha! I knew it!” Pike clapped, giving him a bright smile. She had no idea what a Marine was or why it hated foreigners so much, but she wasn’t about to ask and risk looking dumb after her little victory. “I guess I can’t fault you for wanting to claim the mantel of someone who kicks ass, especially when you’re probably so intimidated by my fearsome presence.”

She couldn’t help but laugh. The thought was actually ludicrous. She was barely intimidating when she was in full armor and carrying a weapon, let alone when she was in a dress she’d fashioned from a woman’s button down shirt. Yes, she could incinerate him in radiant holy fire if she wanted to, but she was willing to bet that he didn’t know that.

She had a nice laugh. "You caught me, that's why I picked him. I figured you could knock me on my ass without much trouble. " Dean winked. "So what else can you do besides clearly see through bullshit?"

"I definitely could," she smirked, years of combat training had at least taught her that, "If you ask nicely, I might show you sometime."

"Oh, you know, there isn't too much to do around here but I'm a cleric, so I'm in the clinic a lot as one of our healers."

She went to take a sip of her drink but realized that it was empty. Looking into it to be sure, she eventually set the cup down with a little frown. But luckily that was replaced with another little smile as soon as she looked back at...not Dwayne.

"I also spend time training with that big guy over there," she pointed to Piotr at the bar, "Ummm, and I think I'm going to reopen the bakery counter soon too."

Cleric. Dean thought back to when he'd heard that term. Oh.Right! The Moondoor LARP with Charlie. He turned his head to see who she was talking about but his interest immediately switched.

"Bakery? You bake?"

“Oh!” Pike had been ready to launch into the whole description of cleric and Sarenrae and everything but was pleasantly surprised when he took it in another direction.

“Yes! Yes, I do.” She scoots a touch closer to him, “Back home, my family and I took some time off from adventuring and a few of us opened a bakery.”

"A girl after my own heart." Dean winked. "What's your specialty?" While he loved pies, Dean was an equal opportunity dessert lover.

"Three winks in one conversation?" Pike let out another sweet, genuine laugh, "I think you might have hit some sort of quota, sir."

Maybe this night wouldn't be the bust she'd expected it to be.

"It's too bad you weren't here a few weeks ago. I baked a huge spread for the winter holidays. Cookies, brownies, pastries, pies, cakes...you name it, and it was there."

"Sorry I missed that." Not that Dean wanted to be in the monstrosity of a room a few weeks ago, but he wouldn't pass up an opportunity for dessert.

"Celebrations big around here? Or just during holidays?" He wasn't sure what there was to celebrate in the pink prison, but he got trying to find the fun when you could.

"I think we're all so bored that holidays are a good excuse to do something different." She rested her chin on her hands again, "Which isn't to say that there isn't a lot of drinking normally, it just sounds like there's more kissing involved with tonight's festivities."

"All good parties have drinking and kissing." Dean said with a smirk. "So this really is a New Year's party. Still weird to think that it was spring only a couple of hours ago, but here it's a new year."

Which meant that his birthday was coming up. Dean wondered if he would be another year older after just turning another year older three months ago.

"I would agree with you there," she returned his smirk. "Speaking of drinks, what's a gnome got to do to get you to offer her one of those beers?" A little nod towards the bottles sitting in front of him made it clear what she was referring to.

"It takes awhile to get used to time here, at least, it did for me." Mainly because the days of the week and the month names were all different. "The transition was opposite for me. It was winter when I left home and summer when I showed up here."

Dean didn't need to be prodded twice and he handed her the extra beer bottle, still smiling. "Sounds like whoever is behind this likes to mess with people. Takes someone out of the winter and dumps them in summer. Takes someone in the spring and dumps them in winter."

He of course had no idea how much whoever was behind everything really did mess with them.

"I think it's even deeper than that." Pike happily accepted the beer and took a little sip. "Were you doing something dramatic when you left? I don't think I've met someone who was just, ya know, takin' a stroll or something when they showed up here."

"Saying goodbye to a friend." Dean was literal in what he'd been doing. "So you've met one." He grinned around the lips of the bottle before relenting. "But before that I helped kill zombie Nazis."

Okay it had been Charlie's Djinn nightmare and Sam had actually killed the monsters on the outside, but Dean had helped Charlie kill hers. That totally counted.

“Or maybe that goodbye was more important than you realize. Maybe everything in your world changes after that point?” She knew he was just being cheeky, but Pike wasn’t one to give up easily. She was going to say more on the subject but his smile around the bottle caught her off guard. He certainly did have nice lips.

Pulling her thoughts together she realized she didn’t understand what that meant. “Killing zombies I understand, the undead are my speciality. But what are Nazis?”

"Here's hopin'." Dean said in response to his life had a major change after Charlie left. He hoped that he and Sam would find Kevin and close the gates of Hell for good.

His interest also kicked into high gear when she mentioned the undead were her specialty. "Nazis are bigots that need killing, but I'm more interested in your specialty. How did you get to specialize in zombies?"
