[GP] Réveillon & New Year's Eve & Check-In
Emma had said, during Winter's Crest, that she missed a tradition from home called réveillon. She seemed also to miss her cousin, as Lillith missed hers. Since she wished both to learn to cook and to be of comfort to her friend, it had been decided they would make a réveillon dinner for New Year's Eve.
Yet when Emma began to lay out the courses -- oyster soup and potato & leek soup, salad, a gumbo, venison roast, cheeses, and creme brulee, plus several hors d'ouevres not yet decided -- Lillith quailed at the size of the undertaking. Surely she would wish someone to assist who could contribute more than roasted rabbit, wheat or potato flour dumplings, and koláč.
Since Sunny likewise missed her family and would certainly wish a distraction, when she entered the cafe where they were planning, the other two seized upon her almost at once. Sunny could hardly resist their dual entreaty, even had she wished to, and Lillith thought she seemed even more ready for company than previously. Of course Sunny had offerings of her own: jolloff rice, peppered chicken, and fried plantain.
Between they three, the planning and the cooking were very nearly merry, and Lillith kept them liberally supplied with champagne (her personal favorite), too. By late afternoon of the eve of the new year, they had begun lining tables with dishes, and enlisted the help of other friends to make the evening event widely known.
Of course, in addition to the réveillon feast that took over the steakhouse, alcohol flowed freely, lights sparkled brightly, the nightclub had music for dancing. And at some point the Inn or Caroline or Regina hung mistletoe from several of the primary entrances and exits so that unless one wished to or was unaware of the tradition, no one (not even any new arrivals) need greet the new year unkissed.

Re: OTA
She smiled just a little as he tried to correct himself. John tried to do that too. "As long as you boys know what you're doing." She couldn't do anything about it anyways if she tried. She paused, and then shook her head with a bit of a bitter laugh. "I never thought I'd be talking about hunting with my children. Your grandfather used to tell me you can't leave hunting and I guess he was right."
Re: OTA
"But we both go back to it, but it's our choice to do that. Besides, it sounds like you can have that here." Dean was thinking he was going to be bored as hell after a couple of weeks... maybe three.
Re: OTA
"You're right. Though with a lot of differences to it. This place isn't exactly Lawrence." Mary didn't bring up how Sam was a bit distant with her, having a hard time reconciling her part with Azazel and being a grown man who now was around an otherwise absent mother.
"I'd like to try and make it up to you boys, however I can."
Re: OTA
Re: OTA
Mary laughed a little and then nodded. "Alright. I think I can do that, sure." She appreciated how Dean seemed to make her feel lesson edge. She knew Sam was a different story, but she wouldn't tell Dean that.
Re: OTA
Re: OTA
"I'm grateful I can learn about you two as well. I'm sure there's a lot that's happen to you since you played with action figures." She smiled with just the slightly hint of sadness. "But for now, I'll let you settle in. This place is... a lot to take in." Maybe not as much for him as it seemed her boys had done a lot more than most hunters ever do.
Re: OTA
Re: OTA
Mary followed his gaze for a moment and her smile turned a little amused. "So I'm going to guess you're single, then. Back home, I mean."
Re: OTA
"If I had to bet, I'd say he's got one here."
Re: OTA
"I think you might be right. I've seen him around a few women frequently, but he hasn't really introduced any to me yet." Not like you did when you were steady with someone, anyways. "You might be able to find out more than me. Talking to your mom about that stuff is uncool even as an adult."
Re: OTA
"But you can get clues watching him." Dean smirked, "he doesn't have a poker face." Or you know, Dean knows him so well it doesn't work with him. Same thing in his mind.
Re: OTA
"What about you? Do you have a good poker face?" She knew enough about Dean to know even if he answered it might not be entirely truthful.
Re: OTA
Re: OTA
"Well, I hope sometimes you can let your mom in. Even if it's just to make me feel better." She playfully winked to him, then paused. "I'm really glad you're here, Dean." Mary wanted to be incredibly selfish and wish for John too, but she had a feeling that wasn't going to happen.
