[GP] Réveillon & New Year's Eve & Check-In

Emma had said, during Winter's Crest, that she missed a tradition from home called réveillon. She seemed also to miss her cousin, as Lillith missed hers. Since she wished both to learn to cook and to be of comfort to her friend, it had been decided they would make a réveillon dinner for New Year's Eve.

Yet when Emma began to lay out the courses -- oyster soup and potato & leek soup, salad, a gumbo, venison roast, cheeses, and creme brulee, plus several hors d'ouevres not yet decided -- Lillith quailed at the size of the undertaking. Surely she would wish someone to assist who could contribute more than roasted rabbit, wheat or potato flour dumplings, and koláč.

Since Sunny likewise missed her family and would certainly wish a distraction, when she entered the cafe where they were planning, the other two seized upon her almost at once. Sunny could hardly resist their dual entreaty, even had she wished to, and Lillith thought she seemed even more ready for company than previously. Of course Sunny had offerings of her own: jolloff rice, peppered chicken, and fried plantain.

Between they three, the planning and the cooking were very nearly merry, and Lillith kept them liberally supplied with champagne (her personal favorite), too. By late afternoon of the eve of the new year, they had begun lining tables with dishes, and enlisted the help of other friends to make the evening event widely known.

Of course, in addition to the réveillon feast that took over the steakhouse, alcohol flowed freely, lights sparkled brightly, the nightclub had music for dancing. And at some point the Inn or Caroline or Regina hung mistletoe from several of the primary entrances and exits so that unless one wished to or was unaware of the tradition, no one (not even any new arrivals) need greet the new year unkissed.

“You really are too sweet,” Pike blushed a vibrant pink, “It helps to know that I have wonderful new friends to give me perspective. I won’t ignore my uncle’s warning, but I think acknowledging the darkness is the best way to keep an eye on it.”

Bo stilled for a second before smiling herself and nodding. She knew she should take Pike's advice herself, but it was hard considering the last time her other side took over she sucked the chii out of a lot of people and killed them. "Well, if you're doing dark side I'll give you the heads up."

"That means a lot, thank you," Pike rested her chin in her hands, mind drifting away from the dark subject and back to their original conversation (which had been much more enjoyable) "Do you think I should go back and talk to him? Would that look too desperate?"

"Not desperate." She shook her head reassuringly. "And from my experience, men like women who are direct. They really have a hard time with subtle. They suck at it, usually."

"Okay, okay, okay. I think I can be direct," She nodded, trying to find a way to believe her own words. "It's just, you know, sometimes when I try to speak the words kind of come out jumbled and, um, non-direct. Is there a way to flirt that just involves hitting? That would work really well for me."

Bo laughed. "There is with the right person." She looked over in Dean's direction. "He might be into that. He looks like he's pretty tough." She looked back to Pike. "You'll be fine. Just be yourself. Or you can just write your room on a piece of paper and give it to him. Always a good hint."

“I can do that?” Pike’s eyes grew wide and she started looking around. “Do you have a pen, maybe?”

Bo bend out of view for a moment and re-appeared with a pen and a fresh napkin for her to write on. She handed them over to Pike. "Best calling card in the biz."

“I have no idea what that means,” Pike blinked owlishly

Bo just smiled. "Napkin numbers are basically 'I want a good time, but not looking for long term right now'. Whereas like, a business card might mean something more serious."

"Okay, okay, okay," She bounced up and down in her seat to psych herself up, then wrote her room number on the little piece of paper. She still didn't know what a business card was, but it didn't really seem important. "I'm gonna do it."

Bo's smile turned into an encouraging grin. "You can totally do this. And I'll be here with a drink if you need to double back for more courage."
