Carlos hated being back at the hotel. He had begun by trying to access the Nevernever but that had totally failed, then caught up with Buffy to go and visit both London and Edinburgh, for varying reasons, and the rest of the time he had headed to Spain - he may have been well travelled, but rarely got time to be a tourist - but his time relaxing and finding out about Spain had been unceremoniously cut short when he woke up and found himself back at the hotel. For a few moments he lay there, utterly fed up, and just feeling incredibly homesick.

That only lasted a few minutes; after that he was a man on a mission.

He hunted out Caroline, and had a long chat with her. Plans were set. Time to cook up a storm. They'd missed 4th July, this could serve as a belated celebration, as well as a 'things ain't all bad here' event. Posters went up throughout the hotel, giving notice of a cook out. Everyone was encouraged to attend. What could be bad about this?

Grills were set up outside to cook up as much meat as they could hold; non-meat options were there as well for variety; salads prepared... a vast array of food to try and cheer up anyone who needed it. Carlos took his place at the grills, brandishing tools, turning the meat over just at the right point.

All that was needed now was people to attend.

"Sounds like it." Buffy admitted, though it was kind of neat that there were Supernatural rules. "We don't have rules." A beat, "well I don't think we do, I don't really pay attention to the Watcher's Council and they probably have a rule book."

"Ugh, don't get me started on the Wizard's Council. Carlos works for them as their Warden but his stick has been permanently removed from his ass. He's one of the good guys." Harry still trusted him and he had opportunity to take her in, but he hadn't. That spoke volumes to her.

"But there are laws of magic, which fine, but they don't tell you about them until it's too late."

"What is it with people that are on a Council? There was this test that they do with Slayers, and they don't tell you about it until it's happening and they drug you!" Buffy scowled, "I got through it obviously, but Giles and I had a really rough time after that."

But to be fair, Buffy had kept Angel's reappearance from him and that had caused friction, too.

"Holy crap, even ours isn't that bad. Well I guess kind of without telling you the rules and putting you to death but damn. What kind of test was it?" Molly asked.

"Me against a vampire which sure doesn't sound so bad, but they gave me something that took away my slayer ability. So it would be like anyone going up against a vampire. I survived obviously, but it was something I wouldn't wish on anyone else." Buffy hated the Council after that, not that she had been their fan before but she really hated them now.

"God, I can't imagine going up against a vampire without my magic." Molly shuddered at the thought. "I mean Sam and Dean do it all the time, but ... yeah, that would be hard."

"Especially if you weren't ready for it. If you were trained to kill them like Sam and Dean, that's still scary, but you're ready for it. For them it would be like taking away their weapons and throwing them in with vampires and saying okay kill them." Buffy made a face.

Molly scowled, "wow okay your Council wins the dick award with that one." She looked over at Buffy, "I'm gonna guess, like me you're not connected to them anymore."

"Nope, just my Watcher and he's not connected to them anymore either. We had a new one come to Sunnydale and he turned out to be not so bad." Buffy made a face thinking of Wesley, "at the end of school year anyway. When he first came he was a big doof." But harmless.

Molly laughed at the term, thinking of the Wizard Council. There weren't 'doofs' in there no matter how much she hated them. Asshats but not doofs.

"What did he do to redeem himself that he wasn't a doof anymore?"

"The battle with the Mayor." She knew that Molly knew that story. "He stepped up and let Giles take control even though Wesley was the 'official' Watcher." Which for Buffy was important and actually what had changed her mind about him.

"Didn't let ego get in the way of getting the job done." Molly wished the Council would have been more like that in Chicago after Harry died, but she knew that was wishful thinking and useless.

"So was he still with you when you came here? Or did the Council move him on?"

"He moved on." Buffy said, "I don't think it was the Council. I think Wesley did it on his own." She actually had no idea, because she hadn't really kept in touch with him after he left Sunnydale, but she was a little embarrassed to admit that.

"I get that. He moved on to find his place."

Now that Molly knew that Harry had come back, she wouldn't have to protect Chicago. If another version of her did become the Winter Lady, that meant that Molly could find her own place.

Who was she kidding, she wouldn't leave Harry.

"Sometimes I wish I could." Buffy said wistfully. "I know I can't leave Sunnydale, not with the Hellmouth." She looked at Molly, "unless another version of me is there and when I go back I can do anything because she's handling it. Yeah that's not gonna happen."

That wasn't Buffy's luck.

"Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about my life. The only thing I can do is just enjoy this moment in time." Molly agreed. "And hope that we remember everything because I'd really hate for this to go away, even if I think it's a weird ass dream."

"I hear you." Buffy knew that Carlos wasn't in her same world, they would have definitely been aware of the other organization. Ethan Rayne would have for sure been on the Wizard Council radar as would a Hellmouth if not the Slayer. So she wasn't under any illusion that what she had with Carlos was long term, but she did want to remember it when she got back to Sunnydale. That would suck.

"With your mind magic, do you think you could make sure we keep the memories?"

"Yeah, I could plant a subliminal thought in your mind that everytime you saw something pink you remembered something from the Inn. The only problem is that, I'm not sure if it would go away when you left here."

She smiled and pointed to one of her tattoos, "what is permanent is ink. Of course you might wonder who the hell Carlos is and why you have his name tattooed on your arm."

Buffy had actually thought about getting a tattoo. She didn't want one like Angel had but something.

"I thought about that once." Buffy admitted, "not Carlos' name but something. I just never did it."

"Oh we will get you some ink at the next Other world that has tattoo artists." Molly assured her with a grin. "We can figure out what kind and where."

"It's a date!" Buffy was oddly excited about the prospect.
