I've been thinking (don't tell me, yes, I know that's a dangerous thing) and I've had some ideas I kind of wanted to mention, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to throw out there, and that meant I didn't write anything.

So I'm just going to toss out my ideas like spaghetti and see what sticks.

(Please don't throw spaghetti at the wall. The best way to tell if it's done is to take a bite. You'll know if it's al dente.)

[hand sketched knife, bowl & whisk, eggs, and a few veggies]

I've been thinking about the menus for May. Do you have any favorite dishes you'd like to have? Anything you've been missing maybe? Or things we have but you want more often? As long as we have the ingredients (and who knows, maybe, if we make it clear we want it, something new will be added to the food stores), I'm happy to make it, or learn if you'll teach me, or try to reverse engineer it from your descriptions (as long as you're willing to taste test along the way for feedback.

[hand drawn flourish, complete with sketched pen at the end]

I know we had a sign-up way back when where people listed what subjects they could and were willing to teach, but from what I remember, a lot of those things were more in-depth topics that were going to take investment of time and effort to learn. But I was wondering, what about more discrete options, demonstrations, things you could maybe pick up the basics at least in an afternoon.

Like how to make an omelet. Or turning doodles into something more. Or, I don't know, how to foxtrot.

Kind of an "each one, teach one" thing. Somebody picks something they're good at doing and an afternoon, and whoever wants to learn they can. And then another day, someone else teaches something they're good at.

I'm probably not explaining myself very well. It's just an idea.

Jack had taken up jogging as one of the ways to pass the time. The interesting thing about where he was stuck was it seemed like jogging different paths and directions always gave something new for him to see. It was the early hours of the morning when he took off on a jog. The weather was nice and the coolness of the morning meant that he wouldn't overheat while running. About an hour into his jog, he slowed to a halt. There was a baby deer that appeared to be trapped in some leafless bush. Its leg was bleeding, presumably from trying to get out of its entanglement. He slowly approached the deer and crouched, beginning to try and free the baby animal.

Ned was a-buzz since Peter mentioned the news of him going all the way with Liz. He finally had a friend that had done it. Peter Parker was both Spider-Man and not a virgin - he was living his ultimate life. This was what preoccupied Ned's thoughts as he sat in the lobby trying to program part of the video game he and Peter were working on. He kept making way more mistakes than he normally would.

Finally he decided to stop and switch projects. His other project required less thought since it was almost done. After several key strokes later, he placed a small homemade helicopter on the coffee table. He pressed ENTER. The propeller on the helicopter started to spin and it flew up a foot in the air. Ned grinned, pleased.

~*~

Liz sat on one of the lounge chairs outside by the pool with her journal beside her and chemistry homework out on her lap. On top of her chemistry homework was her sketchbook. She couldn't quite concentrate today, either, though she wasn't sure why. Perhaps it was what happened on the weekend with her and Peter or maybe it was the conversation she had with Mr. Stark. She decided that trying to draw, despite not having Piotr around, would be helpful. There were some flowers trying their hardest to bloom and she tried to draw them where she sat. Of course, she was still too critical on herself and she continuously erased her work and started over

~*~

Not too far away from Liz was Bo on a yoga mat. She was stretched out doing yoga int leggings and a work out bra and currently doing the triangle pose. She was stressed, but she didn't know why exactly. Maybe it wasn't stressed as frustrated, but she still couldn't pinpoint why. She moved to the downward dog, giving anyone who was paying attention a rather good view of her backside as she tried to stop her mind from wandering, but it was hard. She let out a little frustrated breath.

~*~

Alec was coming back from his own run. He still had energy to burn so he made a change in course and he headed toward the pool which seemed to be pretty busy, though no one was actually swimming. As he neared the pool he toed off his shoes and then pulled off his shirt, leaving a trail of his clothes as his pants where last and he dove into the deep end. He didn't come up right away either. He let the cool water hug his body. Finally, he pushed off the bottom of the pool and surfaced.

~*~

Mary wasn't outside. She was in the bakery trying some vegan recipes for brownies and cookies. It wasn't necessarily because she was vegan, but she thought that she should have some option for people who might be. So far there were two abandoned batches of brownies on the table - one wasn't sweet enough and one had used too much applesauce. She mixed the pumpkin mix into the new batch and poured it in, hoping the third time was the charm.

Samirah didn't do well with staying still for too long. She had always thought she wanted a break back home while she was juggling being a Valkyrie and a demigod while also maintaining a relationship with Amir and getting good grades at school. Now that she had some downtime, she realized she was the type of person who needed to have something to do constantly to keep herself.

She had her axe that was adorn in Norse ruins out and she was going through motions of various attacks and defenses. She was sweating and she was smiling. This felt good. She was considering taking Loki up on his offer to train her, too. If she could get more control over her shape-shifting then maybe she could gain more control over her Loki when she returned.

After a while, Sam stopped and went to get some water on a nearby bench.

I'm bored.

You're probably bored too. And if you aren't right this minute, wait an hour. Maybe a day.

So I thought, why not use these magic messaging journals for something that will help fill the time instead of stuff that saves one of the few things we already have too much of?

ASK ME ANYTHING

For those of you not from a time and world similar to mine, AMAs are a whole thing, but it's pretty self-explanatory. You ask questions. I answer them. Obviously questions about me, or things I have a chance of knowing or forming an answer are best, but if you want to ask me the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow, go for it.

Finished with self-imposed paperwork and emergency planning for the week, Regina permitted herself a leisurely ride on this absolutely gorgeous spring day. After a good gallop, Grace was content to walk, cropping at dried scrub and new shoots when Regina gave her rein. Regina steered the mare gently toward the west; she could teleport, of course, but she appreciated the quiet of riding toward the beach. She found, in the wake of Henry's Christmas visit, she more often craved the scent of the salt air and ocean breezes. Of course, the Pacific never quite smelled like the Atlantic, always warmer and less bracing somehow, but it soothed the wildness in her just the same.

Back at the Inn, Kitty busied herself with stocking the pool bar and generally setting up for the warmer seasons. The pool had been skimmed of winter detritus and chlorinated by the staff-spectre she rarely if ever saw, and there were fresh towels set out like a proper resort. Since the choice of music was hers, the air around the bar filled with dance beats, Afro-Caribbean today, and Kitty moved right into it. She didn't usually dance at work, but she felt bright today and maybe Lara would come down and work with her and they could goof around Cocktail style.

Sam passed through the Copper Cafe in search of a cup of coffee and a salad, or one of the two gorgeous women he'd somehow wound up involved with. His brow scrunched like a caterpillar hurrying away from a predator while he semi-consciously outpaced thoughts about babies and brothers, and possibly babies and girlfriends. His mild scowl wasn't helped by the pack of spirits trailing him and chatting at him about the lives of his family members. He'd asked them not to gossip about people he wasn't close with, but as a consequence, they talked rapidly and often about River's most recent oddness or his mother and Hathaway acting like...well, like him and Molly and Bo, and no thanks. Ditto on Dean and Jane. For all that he looked a little bothered, there wasn't anything menacing or aggressive about it. If anything, the slight tilt of his head as he strolled through the Inn looked thoughtful, as though he listened to something somewhat distant.

Lillith had come to a bit of a routine for arrival days, and around noon, she sat for tea with River Song. They spoke little, and it was difficult to tell whether the women even liked each other. But for all that, Lillith was content with the ritual. If Curnen sang, she would go out to the lawn next and listen. In fact, on such a sunny day, she would undoubtedly flop on the lawn with a sketchbook and a practice notebook, letting her mind float between image and spellcraft as it would. Out here, she would quickly veil herself at the approach of anyone new, but she often was distracted enough that they might catch her in her true form with her all unaware.

Around them, the Inn hummed and buzzed with the happy energy of winter giving way to spring. The most patient and subtle would undoubtedly note the undercurrents of tension, fear, frustration, and boredom that built up over time. But for day, at least so far as this four were aware, the worst of it had been suspended, in favor of enjoying warm sun and the company of friends.

[OOC: GP. It's a gorgeous day. Come and play! All four of mine can be available. Ping me if you're inspired to tag. <3 Welcome, Carol, Toby, and Number Five!]

Dyson confirmed a week ago they found some sort of thing that could help with trial number two, but that was as much as he knew and they had to 'wait' for the trial to start. Apparently it wasn't just something Bo could press a button for and it happen. So for a week now, she had been walking around impatient. By the end of the week, she was sure it wasn't going to happen.

She found herself bored and walking into the infirmary - she was pretty sure Loki would be there.

I apologize ahead of time if she's bitchy at you. We had a little WWE bout of stubborn Molly vs. stubborn Winter Lady. Thor and Loki got an early start, because there was a lot to do. Almost two weeks to the day since their first small-but-successful experiment with snow, Loki was confident that he'd improved enough for a bigger experiment. Still snow, because Thor wanted it and it did seem like a decent way to try something big-ish without causing Loki unnecessary grief with the other residents. (It was an arrival day, so there would perhaps be some grief with any new arrivals, but that was entirely acceptable.)

It was before dawn when they went out into the grounds. Thor called up clouds and loaded them with water so they hung low and heavy, covering the sky so that the sun, when it rose, wouldn't ruin the event. Loki took his frost giant shape and staff (now very familiar to his hand) and concentrated on dropping the temperature. Just around the Inn and grounds, but that was enough to be serious effort.

When the snow first started, the flakes were big and wet, and melted as soon as they hit the ground, which was still on the warm side. As they melted, they cooled the ground. After an hour or so, the flakes were smaller and more powdery - real snow, not glorified slush - and they were starting to stick to the ground.

By mid-morning, the Inn and grounds were covered with a thick layer of snow, and it continued to fall.

***

Meanwhile, indoors and inspired by the snow, Hurley and Xavin decided to try and make cookies. Cooking together was fun, since neither of them exactly knew what they were doing apart from 'follow the recipe', but since the point was 'try to make cookies' they ended up with a lot of cookies. Sugar cookies, gingerbread, all kinds.

There was no way they'd be able to eat all of them.

Instead, they loaded them onto trays and hauled them to the cafe, then brought out various frostings and candies for decorating. This had been completely intentional. Completely.

Mary was helping Caroline with providing the sweets for the party - cupcakes, cookies, Rice Krispies, and a bunch of other things. There was 'real food' provided by the restaurant. there were alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all themed for the event of Halloween and there is even music to. Caroline's decorating skills where again proven as the entire space looked as if it had been turned into Halloweentown.

Mary's at the last tray of cupcakes that look like they had spiders on them down on the table and sighed. Her work for the party was done and now she can relax. She was already in costume with some blue and pink streaks in her hair and a t-shirt that hung up one shoulder that had a skull in the front. Her makeup was indicative of a punk rocker and she even had a fake nose ring on. Now all she had to hope was that Hathaway was going to keep up his end of the bargain or else she might look up at silly.

What did John want? Did he want things explained as River offered? No. He wanted normality. Which here - meant- playing croquet and riding horseback. He needed time still to grasp his mind around things still - so didn't go asking for River Song - just yet.

He got as far as this place isn't a dream (though granted the multiverse thing is still a mystery) but the fact that he's someone else. Someone that he wrote and drew in his journal about. The Impossible stories as he'd call them. Was - absurd and scary.

Vague images of the plastic men and strange trash can creatures and a few others flash through his mind.

What sort of person would go against such creatures? How could such creatures exist? What kind of madman is that?

Why always running and feeling like a fugitive?

How could such dreams be reality?

If there was anything John did like about The Adventurer; was how confident he was.

After John, finished setting up the croquet set in the garden and starting a game by himself to hopefully relax him and get his mind off of - things.

[Choice B]

After the game of croquet, John can be found riding around the hotel on horseback and clearly enjoying himself.

John's been spending an awful lot of time in the library; to the point of asking the librarians to not move his books that he's pulled out and stacked on the table with the comfy chair and if the librarians allow it- John's also fallen asleep in that chair rather than going back to his room.

He feels very behind with what's in these books. Such as the discovery of the atom! The idea of the general theory of relativity. Basically, anything in science, geographic, history and technology after 1913.

Choice A

This day; John has many books on space - out. There is a planet beyond Neptune, in the solar system - discovered 1930 and planets that John he knew but apparently he did not. Apparently, Venus really wasn't anything like Earth but a toxic hot planet where lead could melt.

Greenhouse effect? What is that? There's a sticky note to look that up at some point.

Apparently, space is expanding. Who knew!

How Sputnik scared America.

Einstein says that space bends.

Mankind went to the Moon! Which John has a note to look up the physics of how a rocket is launched and manages to work in a vacuum.

There's more but he hasn't gotten to Stephen Hawking.

Oddly; there doesn't seem to be anything about if there's life out in the stars... What John is looking for - he's really not sure but it does bother him still that Xavin asked John how does one have a spaceship if one doesn't know about space?

His napkin drawing is also lying somewhere among all the mess of books.

Choice B

Today, in the library - walking the shelves were the VHS's are and picks one up on random to look at it at all corners. Takes it out of the plastic box and flips the top of the hard plastic to peek at the film inside.

Choice C

John is going around the hotel and checking for anything locked to see if he can figure out how to use his 'magic pen'. Yes, someone is literally waving that gadget like a magic wand.

Choice D

Wildcard; throw something at me; aka drag someone out of the library, please

At the crest of the mountain, Coc'zac sat atop Nazu's head looking through a glass that Hotor held to his eye. Vokva sat beside them, little more than a pile of bones atop a pile of rocks, and Hafur paced behind them, holding the troops in check. They milled in the pre-dawn gloom, skeletons, wights, zombies, wraiths, and all manner of undead creatures. Periodically, Nazu swept the space behind them with their tail bowling over anyone who'd gotten too close.

The first pinpoint of light had Coc'zac's teeth chattering with excitement in his disembodied head. Today was the day he'd been planning for. Soon, soon the Inn and its occupants would be his. Nazu unleashed a heavy sigh tinged with poison and necrosis. Fortunately the troops were all dead already, and Coc'zac didn't have anything in the way of arms to hit them with.

It fell to Hafur to gesture the troops forward as punctuation to Coc'zac's 'rousing' speech, and together they crept through the portal, avoiding its fizzing and popping edges demarcated in what would be neon blue, if they could still see in color. They couldn't properly hear either, but they were aware of the noise and the danger it marked.

Once they were all through, the advance scouts, four bands of skeleton archers swept quietly as they could through the shadows to take up position around the main buildings, prepared to pick off anyone who exited--for example for a pre-sun jog. And once they'd settled into wary, silent waiting, occasionally interrupted by the pop of a joint or the clatter of toe bones on stone, the next wave rolled in finding shadows to hide in until the residents emerged with the wights taking point. The bone naga and three flameskulls slipped through the lobby doors and stealthed toward the offices, assuming to find the command center there.

It wasn't long before the invaders caught the notice of the residents, and then shouts began to echo through the grey light and journals filled with messages and reminders of siege plans. Several strongly worded messages urged the kids and those without weapons or fighting skills to head for the Temple where the Hallow spell would protect them from unholy undead things.

And so the battle for the Madonna Inn began...

With the help of River and copious amounts of alcohol, Dean had finally finished learning the stupid song and moves. It was put off as long as he could, but Dean would never go back on a bet. Especially one won doing beer pong. It didn't mean he wouldn't get his revenge. He would, but for now, Dean was a single lady and you better put a ring on it.

The most traveled place was the spot by the cafe in the lobby. Most people would see you there either coming and going from the inn or to the bar or pool. Of course Clarice picked that spot.

He set up the music and hoped that for once, everyone was outside enjoying the day. Dean was dressed in the 'gift' from Clarice but he was not wearing the pumps, he didn't care and he had borrowed a wig. If he was going to do it, he would do it right.

The beginning of the song began to play and Dean got to the empty area 'stage'.

So the door to Safari Room had been blown clean off its hinges and the remains of a king-size bed were on fire in the parking lot by building three, but Sunny was totally fine. This was fine.

It wasn't like she'd spent weeks tinkering at another idea to get the hell out of here that had completely failed just this morning. It wasn't like she was about to turn twenty-four in this place. It wasn't like she felt a chasm of misery and loneliness in her belly threatening to open wider and swallow her whole from the inside. It wasn't like she'd just thrown an unholy screaming fit and smashed anything that could take smashing before throwing that second goddamn bed that mocked her with its emptiness straight through the wall and then set it ablaze.

She was completely fine.

Of course, in the midst of all that it had completely slipped her mind until she saw an unfamiliar face or two that today was potentially an arrival day. And then for a flicker of an instant she was ashamed. But it died quickly.

"Shit." She needed a drink.

Carlos hated being back at the hotel. He had begun by trying to access the Nevernever but that had totally failed, then caught up with Buffy to go and visit both London and Edinburgh, for varying reasons, and the rest of the time he had headed to Spain - he may have been well travelled, but rarely got time to be a tourist - but his time relaxing and finding out about Spain had been unceremoniously cut short when he woke up and found himself back at the hotel. For a few moments he lay there, utterly fed up, and just feeling incredibly homesick.

That only lasted a few minutes; after that he was a man on a mission.

He hunted out Caroline, and had a long chat with her. Plans were set. Time to cook up a storm. They'd missed 4th July, this could serve as a belated celebration, as well as a 'things ain't all bad here' event. Posters went up throughout the hotel, giving notice of a cook out. Everyone was encouraged to attend. What could be bad about this?

Grills were set up outside to cook up as much meat as they could hold; non-meat options were there as well for variety; salads prepared... a vast array of food to try and cheer up anyone who needed it. Carlos took his place at the grills, brandishing tools, turning the meat over just at the right point.

All that was needed now was people to attend.

On one of the trips back to the Inn, Molly had overheard Butters talking about the cost of instruments. Since she knew how much it would mean to him, and for all the help he’d given her in Chicago, Molly came up with a plan. It wasn’t even an evil plan, which everyone should be happy about. What better way to win money than at a casino? Yeah, there were always lots of better ways, House always won, but they also liked to have happy customers. It hadn’t taken Molly as much convincing as she’d thought it would for Butters to get on board.

She smiled over at him as they made their way into the main room of the casino. “Ready for some James Bond action? I’m looking forward to being a Bond girl. ” Molly had even dressed the part with clothes to emphasize her height, coloring and curves. The casino wasn’t one that Bond would have gone to, no one would have believed either Butters or her would belong in a place like that, but definitely in a place that Marcone would have fit in easily would do.

Liz was out away from the Inn around noon trying to complete a science experiment that she thought might be useful for the obstacle course she and Kitty were almost ready to start building. She had all the components laid out including benign acids and basis. She wanted to see how she could cause a spray of foam jut out as an obstacle that might need to be avoided or at least distract for a while. It was like a much more sophisticated volcano experiment but instead of 'oozing lava', her goal was for spraying foam.

She was currently on the ground writing notes about a failed attempt - doing things like this was nice to get her mind off of other things that had been taxing her mind lately. That's when she heard panting. Liz looked up, expecting, maybe, to see Dante, but what she saw made her freeze. There was a wolf a few yards away. In her peripherals, she could see three more. Liz knew enough about wolves that she figured there had to be a few more behind her, since they hunt in packs. She started to do quick calculations on how fast they probably were and how fast she was not and then what chemicals she had with her that might be good distractions...

(ooc: Anyone who has a pup itching to use their powers or feel useful, feel free to come help Liz out. There is 6 or 7 wolves depending on your needs [a typical wolf pack size])

Dean had entered the library - yes he knew there was one, but he wasn't a fan of the one at the Inn because of all the 'Black Magic Women' that were in charge of it. He didn't trust it - or rather them and by extension, it. But he'd heard there were VCR machines to be rented and he'd gone in, got what he needed and got out - sort of like how he did clothes shopping.

Videos were another matter entirely. That was like going into an old school Blockbuster and not around the magic types. Win/win. He was looking at the selection in the VHS 'lending library' area. "Man this is awesome!" He grabbed, 'The Outsiders, Roadhouse and Rudy' then went down the next aisle and made a face when the first movie he saw was 'Dirty Dancing'. "Swazye always gets a pass."
