[GP] SNOW DAY

Thor and Loki got an early start, because there was a lot to do. Almost two weeks to the day since their first small-but-successful experiment with snow, Loki was confident that he'd improved enough for a bigger experiment. Still snow, because Thor wanted it and it did seem like a decent way to try something big-ish without causing Loki unnecessary grief with the other residents. (It was an arrival day, so there would perhaps be some grief with any new arrivals, but that was entirely acceptable.)

It was before dawn when they went out into the grounds. Thor called up clouds and loaded them with water so they hung low and heavy, covering the sky so that the sun, when it rose, wouldn't ruin the event. Loki took his frost giant shape and staff (now very familiar to his hand) and concentrated on dropping the temperature. Just around the Inn and grounds, but that was enough to be serious effort.

When the snow first started, the flakes were big and wet, and melted as soon as they hit the ground, which was still on the warm side. As they melted, they cooled the ground. After an hour or so, the flakes were smaller and more powdery - real snow, not glorified slush - and they were starting to stick to the ground.

By mid-morning, the Inn and grounds were covered with a thick layer of snow, and it continued to fall.

***

Meanwhile, indoors and inspired by the snow, Hurley and Xavin decided to try and make cookies. Cooking together was fun, since neither of them exactly knew what they were doing apart from 'follow the recipe', but since the point was 'try to make cookies' they ended up with a lot of cookies. Sugar cookies, gingerbread, all kinds.

There was no way they'd be able to eat all of them.

Instead, they loaded them onto trays and hauled them to the cafe, then brought out various frostings and candies for decorating. This had been completely intentional. Completely.

Shyly, Corbie disappeared back under the towel and kept rubbing as she explained. "Rosa mundi. The world rose. A philosopher in my world believed that all the stars in the sky had the potential to bloom as our sun and our own world did."
st_ormbreaker: (I'm quite happy thank you.)

A smile blossoms on Thor's face. "I think that's a wonderful way of looking at it. In my reality, we have something like it called Yggdrasil -- the World Tree."

Thor recalls explaining this all to Jane years before when they first met.

"Did you believe your philosopher before you came here?"
st_rikingblueeyes: (Learning is awesome)

Corbie set the towel down on the counter and started to comb through her curls with her fingers. "Didn't know," she admitted. "It was an interesting idea, but we didn't exactly have proof or nothing."
st_ormbreaker: (Hella charming.)

Thor watches as Corbie runs her hand through her curls and runs his hand through his own shorter locks without even thinking about it.

"But you believe them now?"

A gesture that didn't escape Corbie's attention, though for the moment she tucked it away without comment. She winced and slowed down to deal with a snarl. "Well, yeah. Can't deny the evidence right in front of me, can I?"
st_ormbreaker: (Confused.)

"I suppose not," Thor says. "Some people've thought this was a delusion or some crazy fever dream for awhile, but that seems to pass eventually."

Thor glances over at her hair. "Did you need help with that?"
st_rikingblueeyes: (So cute)

Corbie smiled sheepishly. "Maybe?" Her hair was dry, but she'd rubbed it harder and mussed it more than she'd meant to.
st_ormbreaker: (Hella charming.)

"Let me see."

Thor takes a step towards her and then when he's sure she is comfortable with it, runs his large fingers lightly over her hair until his fingers find the snarl.

He works it out, bit-by-bit.

"My brother and I used to braid each other's hair when we were children," he tells her. "It's been a long time since I've done anyone else's hair. Jane preferred to handle her hair alone."

More than not mind, Corbie welcomed the touch. She liked physical contact and affection, and she stayed very still while Thor worked the tangle out. "Nobody's done my hair since my gran died," she said. "But I don't think that was anywhere near that long ago."
st_ormbreaker: (I'm quite happy thank you.)

"Probably not," Thor agrees, and he manages, finally to detangle it. "Let me know if you ever need your hair done. I braided Loki's hair recently, so I am not entirely out of practice."
st_rikingblueeyes: (Bless her wicked heart)

Corbie grinned at that. "Wouldn't say no. Sounds like fun."

Corbie shrugged and rubbed her palms together. "My hands are still a little cold, but nothing I can't play through."

st_ormbreaker: (Because that's what heroes do.)

Thor nods a head towards the door. "You headed back outside?"

Corbie grinned. "Damn straight." She turned and flitted back toward the door.
