The trouble with being tiny--even tinier in this world, apparently, so many people were so tall--was that ready-made clothes were a complete bitch. Corbie couldn't wear anything without making adjustments to it, unless she wanted to look like a half-grown kid. But she didn't, and fortunately for her, she'd learned to be pretty handy with a needle.
Necessity had her sewing. The date had her in the lobby.
Because it was the first of the month again, and as someone who had some experience with new people who had no idea what to do with themselves, Corbie had signed up for welcoming committee almost at once after she'd got her bearings.
She held up a skirt she was hemming, peering at it critically to make sure her adjustments weren't crooked.
But she wasn't concentrating so hard that wasn't paying attention to every pair of passing feet, waiting for the clear uncertainty that said I have no clue where the hell I am or how the hell I got here.
