Things in the kitchen were usually fairly slow this time in the afternoon, and if anyone did come in wanting something to eat, there were others around to handle the immediate cooking. Emma had another project for today. She was in the middle of an argument with herself, and some time-consuming but repetitive cooking would give her plenty of time to work through all sides of her indecision. Especially since the tarot hadn't been any help.
Pasta dough was resting, and the aroma of garlic and shallots lingered in the air from the mushroom filling she had just taken off the stove. The sound of the food processor as she blitzed the filling into a purée wasn't terribly loud, but combined with Emma distracted by her thoughts, it was enough to cover the sounds of anyone coming into the kitchen.
