The microscope Peter and Liz had built from scratch might not be as powerful as fancy lab ones, but it was just as good as the ones you would find in school labs and that was enough to run basic tests. Whenever things were bothering Liz, she found that throwing herself into a project or studying helped - or maybe the truth was it kept the problems away. In any case, it helped. While she had come back from camping with clarity, it had seemed to be muddled again quite quickly.

Scanlan hand on his hand to her. "This isn't going to hurt, is it?"

Liz smiled a little. "Just a little prick, I promise."

"Been called worse before." Scanlan then winced just slightly at the pin-prick as blood was taken from his finger. Liz also took a swap from his mouth.

Liz took Scanlan's sample and labelled it. She was at one of the far ends of the restaurant, closer to the doors leading out than anywhere near the kitchen. There were a few other samples labelled including her own, Alec's and Zahra's.

After she thanked him and tried to explain whatever it was she was going to do with the samples, Scanlan took his violin to the lobby outside. He'd been thinking a lot about Kaylie lately and had yet to really play the violin he bought in Europe. Today, for some reason, he felt more homesick than usual and for the first time, lifted the violin out of its case. The three foot Gnome stood, closed his eyes, and began to play the violin. It wouldn't be familiar to anyone except those who were there when he had died. It was a song he remembered hearing as Vox Machina and his daughter pulled him from death. Kaylie's song to him. Somehow, even after all this time, it was a song he remembered deeply. And so he played. He played for her.

Settled at a table in the library, and brains (at least Sam's) kept pliant with Xavin's coffee wizardry, Sam and Corbie exchanged some lighthearted banter about the weirder monsters in his journal. They alternated sessions on what Sam thought was foundational with things Corbie had heard of and had questions about.

They'd spent the last two hours comparing notes on ghouls from their worlds with what they'd compiled from library texts and agreed they were probably a separate category of monster. Fortunately, Sam's Easter laptop had more than enough memory for this project and several others, because the amount of revision and cross-referencing required by this lore encyclopedia, product of his teaching Corbie, would be next to impossible with journals only.

He must've muttered something about it as Corbie was leaving, because she smiled ruefully. He sighed and said, "Better ghouls than vampires." #Notallvampires. There was just a lot more lore to compile.
