[GP] training day

There was a trope that in prison there wasn't much to do except work out or read. As colorful as Madonna Inn might be, it was still a prison. And look, somebody had put together a library.

Put fifty some people, many of them military, adventurers, vigilantes, or superheroes of one stripe or another, in a prison with none of the urgent missions or near-death experiences they were used to, the fitness center was going to be a popular place. Maybe almost as popular as the bar.

... Probably not quite that popular.

There were free weights and weight machines, treadmills and ellipticals, yoga mats and exercise balls. A room set aside for classes, if someone decided to lead. A large square had been taped over an area of the floor off to one side as a make-shift sparring space. Sports equipment had been brought back from Bonesville for those who preferred more organized games. And those who had been stuck here longest remembered there hadn't always been a salmon ladder.

In other words, something for just about everybody. And you could usually find someone in there if you were looking for a spotter, workout buddy, sparring partner, friendly competition too.

Whenever the space was free, Bo liked to take the opportunity to practice with her sword. Unlike a lot of the other Fae in her world, she only discovered who she was recently which meant a lot of catching up in the fighting sense.

Clad in her usual leather, Bo moved around the sparring area practicing various sword swings and blocks. She definitely looked like she was enjoying herself.

Dyson had been at the heavy bag, which was why he was in a pair of pink sweatpants and a black tank top both of which were emblazoned with the Madonna Inn name and had his knuckles taped.

But he was working hard at NOT avoiding Bo, she he walked over to where she was practicing with her sword as he peel the tape away.

"You have another one of those?" And did she want a real sparring partner.

"Yeah, I do actually." Bo smiled when he approached, happy to see him. She walked over to a long bag on the ground and found the other. She tossed it to Dyson with a wry expression. "Don't go easy on me just cause you can't heal me now."

"I trust in your ability," both to find someone to help her heal, and to meet him blow for blow without him going easy on her.

He weighed the sword in his hand, shifting it from one to the other to get a sense of the balance of it and then stepped back into a ready stance before smirking at her.

Bo hadn't done this with Dyson in what seemed like forward and the smile she had on her face couldn't hide that she was happy and even excited to be able to spar with him like this. She had missed this.

She advanced on him, spinning around before swinging her sword at his shoulder.

He lifted the sword to fend hers off and they clashed with a clang as he spun to get behind her and swung at her this time.

It had been a while since Bo had fought with someone and she was maybe a little rusty. She moved just a little slower than normal, but managed to meet his swing with her sword at the last minute. It meant she didn't have enough momentum for a retaliation swing so she went to kick at his thigh instead.

The blow dropped him down to one knee, he was a little rusty as well having focused on individual training while he was at the inn. He brought his sword up defensively and grinned at her.

"Guess we both need some practice."

"Well, you are an old man." She replied playfully as she took a step back to let him get up, but she also started circling to the right.

"Never bothered you before," he was on his feet in one easy movement that totally belied his age and moved back as she circled, his eyes following her motion. "For a fae I'm not even middle aged."

"About that -" She swung over her head towards him. Whatever the result, she'd finish the sentence saying, "Is the lifespan different for each Fae?"

"We're all fairly long lived," please don't ask him how old he is. He stopped counting a while back. "Some types of fae have different life cycles but most are blessed with long life compared to humans. Why?"

"Just wondering how long I might be looking at, assuming the Garuda doesn't kill me." Bo wondered if she was going to look like this for a hundred years or live more like a human.

"We were only in triple digits for the year when I was born." So she likely had longer than a hundred years.

"So I've got a while until I need to use night cream regularly, huh?" She joked with a smirk, then took another swing at him.

He ducked and parried the blow before answering.

"At least a year or two," or a century or two.

"If you ever point out a grey hair I might actually have to kick your ass." Though she still had a playful look on her face as she swung again.

“Lookin’ good, hot stuff,” Pike laughed, twirling her mace in her hands. Her armor clanked merrily as she made her way over to Bo. “Wanna learn some new stances? Those look pretty stale.”

Her smile went wide. "If you're my teacher, then sign me up."

"I guess I could make some time in my very busy schedule," she gave an exaggerated sigh then started laughing, "Do you always use a sword?"

"Not always. Back home I have a pretty big selection of weapons. Some Fae can only be killed by certain things. Sometimes I just punch people." Bo smiled wryly. "What's your weapon of choice?"

"Most of my friends swap out weapons pretty quickly when they find new magical items," She looked down to her trusty mace and gave it a pat, "But not me. This has been with me for a few years now. It does extra damage against undead creatures."

"Then I'm glad I'm not undead." Yet, anyways. She wasn't sure how the fight with the Garuda was going to go. "I've found simpler is best most of time."

"Yeah, but complicated can be so much fun," She winked then with a quick push of her will, the head of her mace started to glow, "And it can be really helpful."

Pike fell into her favorite stance and motioned for Bo to follow her lead, "Come on, long legs. Left forward, bend your knee just slightly. Now, follow the light."

She moved her mace slowly through a series of swipes that were similar to those that Bo had just done but included some more advanced blocking moves meant for fighting someone larger than yourself.

"I can't tell if that was a compliment or an insult." She smiled wryly, referring to being called long legs. But she obliged and when Pike seemed to have gotten a good enough feel for her mace, Bo took a swing in her direction.
