Swayze Always Gets A Pass - OTA

Dean had entered the library - yes he knew there was one, but he wasn't a fan of the one at the Inn because of all the 'Black Magic Women' that were in charge of it. He didn't trust it - or rather them and by extension, it. But he'd heard there were VCR machines to be rented and he'd gone in, got what he needed and got out - sort of like how he did clothes shopping.

Videos were another matter entirely. That was like going into an old school Blockbuster and not around the magic types. Win/win. He was looking at the selection in the VHS 'lending library' area. "Man this is awesome!" He grabbed, 'The Outsiders, Roadhouse and Rudy' then went down the next aisle and made a face when the first movie he saw was 'Dirty Dancing'. "Swazye always gets a pass."

Sunny nodded. "I had a feeling." Much as she gave Chukwu a rough time for being an egotistical jackass, she didn't know what she would do really without him. And oldest children tended to have a similar feeling to them. Probably because parents kept telling them that they had to take care of any younger siblings.

"That obvious, huh?" Dean chuckled, "it's the protective older brother." Though to be fair Sam was just as protective.

"That and a hunch, I guess," Sunny said with a shrug. The way Sam rarely took up all the space he could reminded her more of Ugonna than of Chukwu. Her eldest brother would never do that, and most of the older siblings she'd met didn't either. Not all. But most. "Though, yes. My mother sent me to kindergarten already reading, my brothers sent me knowing how to punch out the other kids without breaking my hand."

"Damn straight. That's what brothers do." Dean chuckled, "did you put it in to practice?" He assumed she'd used the skill against her brothers as well as others.

Sunny laughed.

It was not the kind of laughter suited for a library, being too loud and a touch too raucous for it. And also a little sad and a little bitter.

Had she ever had to use it? Dean was white and yet for that everything about her was paler than everything about him. And yet she'd grown up in, and largely been rejected in, both black America and Nigeria looking like this. She'd punched out a lot of kids. Which had later become a smaller but not insignificant number of ignorant adults.

Finally she shook her head and said, "Yeah. A time or two."

"And didn't hurt your hand, your brothers taught you well." Dean wasn't surprised she'd used it, but that it brought that reaction was a story. He'd had to ask, "use your skills here?"

"Not yet, no, but came close a couple of times." Namely Jackson. And Bo. She was going to punch the shit out of that woman if she looked at Sunny that way one more time.

"I knew it! I knew this place wasn't all sunshine and rainbows without people being assholes." Dean had thought it was weird with this many people and personalities that there weren't more clashes.

Sunny snorted. "Who in the world said it was? But it's not like we can escape from each other, so we need to deal somehow."

"No one said it was but I haven't seen a good bar fight or hell any fight since I've been here." Alcohol and boredom should have taken care of that.

Sunny rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "Like I said. Survival. I could start punching people, but I also need to weigh that against the fact that there's nowhere to go, everything we do here ripples in such a small community, and everybody knows where everybody else sleeps."

"No wonder people blow off a lot of steam when the door opens to another place." Dean thought about it. "I get having to pick and choose your battles and whether it's worth it."

It was why he didn't have sex indiscriminately at the Inn. There was no Impala to take him away, especially if you were on one page and the other person was on another.

"No shit. Apparently someone died up there." Up there, out there, whatever. They were almost the same thing when you were stuck here. "Got revived, but still."

Dean snickered, "been there, done that, got the t-shirt." Of course it hadn't been on a space station but he and Sam probably have set the record for dying and coming back.

"CPR revived or pulled out of Heaven/Hell/Limbo/whatever afterlife?" He was curious about that, if someone had joined their club. Not even close to being as fun as the mile high club - not that Dean was a member of that particular club with his hate of flying.

"Actually died," Sunny confirmed, resisting the urge to ask about the story here. "Magic was required."

That was interesting. She was part of the group. "An Angel brought me back." He smiled slightly thinking of his first meeting with Castiel. Their relationship came a long way. "Did your coven bring you back?"

Sunny blinked at that. She'd been to the brink at time or two, but, "Oh, no, not me," she clarified. "Captain Jackson." Corbie had been upset about it for days, something Sunny did and didn't understand. Of course it was upsetting to almost lose a friend... but Jackson was about the last man anybody should cry over ever. Still, cry Corbie had, and once or twice it had been on Sunny, which was how she'd heard the whole messy story. "Kash brought him back."

At first he thought she said Cas and he blinked in surprise, but then realized that she'd said Kash.

"Is that the magical healer?" Dean filed that away to ask Jackson if he had any weird shit going on since magic brought him back.

Sunny nodded. "He is, yes. Bit of a grumpy bastard, but it's mostly bark." Certainly if there was bite, she'd never felt it. Then again, as with Felix, she'd been bitten too many times by people who had the right cultural background to really hit where it hurt. Nothing he could come up with could hurt by comparison.

Pike had talked about him when Dean had first arrived, but he actually hadn't known he was a healer until a few people mentioned it.

"Most grumpy bastards are mostly bark." He smiled thinking of Bobby.

Sugar Cream wasn't. Sugar Cream promised bites when you were an idiot and she bit. But when Sunny minded her, they got along swimmingly. For the moment, she only nodded. "Most, yes."
