[GP] Food for the soul

Carlos hated being back at the hotel. He had begun by trying to access the Nevernever but that had totally failed, then caught up with Buffy to go and visit both London and Edinburgh, for varying reasons, and the rest of the time he had headed to Spain - he may have been well travelled, but rarely got time to be a tourist - but his time relaxing and finding out about Spain had been unceremoniously cut short when he woke up and found himself back at the hotel. For a few moments he lay there, utterly fed up, and just feeling incredibly homesick.

That only lasted a few minutes; after that he was a man on a mission.

He hunted out Caroline, and had a long chat with her. Plans were set. Time to cook up a storm. They'd missed 4th July, this could serve as a belated celebration, as well as a 'things ain't all bad here' event. Posters went up throughout the hotel, giving notice of a cook out. Everyone was encouraged to attend. What could be bad about this?

Grills were set up outside to cook up as much meat as they could hold; non-meat options were there as well for variety; salads prepared... a vast array of food to try and cheer up anyone who needed it. Carlos took his place at the grills, brandishing tools, turning the meat over just at the right point.

All that was needed now was people to attend.

Jane - OTA

[personal profile] st_artingpoint 2018-07-14 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
As Jane had told Liz, she hadn't made an effort to return to the Inn as she had with the other Otherworlds. So when she'd been pulled back, there was disappointment, because she had liked the freedom, but it was just disappointment.

The gathering was a nice idea, but she wasn't really in the mood for anything to eat. Instead, she popped open a bottle of beer and headed over to a grassy area with a bag over her shoulder. She'd been fortunate enough that some of the things that she'd bought in Italy and Switzerland, came with her when she was yanked. It helped that it had been in her suitcase at the time.

She opened her bag of Bocce balls and began tossing the balls toward the white one, a pallino.

Jane and Molly

"Aren't you too young to play an old man's game?" Molly teased her. "What is it anyway?" She'd only seen older men play the game at different parks around Chicago.

"It's bocce ball and it's a fun game. When I was in Italy, I saw it being played and I wanted to try it. I was hooked after that." She handed Molly one of the balls, "try to get it as close to that white one as you can and I try to knock yours out of the way if you get it close."

"So a cross between pool and shuffleboard. Okay, I'll bite." Molly tossed the ball with a bit too much and missed the white ball by a mile. "So, apparently I suck at this." She laughed.

"It's not as easy as it looks." Jane put her at ease, but belied that by tossing fairly accurately toward the other ball. "To be fair, I've played it a few times so I had practice.'

Molly laughed, "you can say it, I suck at it. At least at first." She tossed another ball, this time, not as hard and it rolled closer to the white ball but it didn't knock Jane's out of the way.

"Okay, mildly suck." She teased Molly and flicked the ball to knock hers out of the way so there was only hers. It didn't work. In fact it nudged it closer.

"What did you do in the OtherEurope?"

"Spent most of my time around the Mediterranean. I could seriously live there." Molly said with a chuckle. "That was after I finally wrapped my head around that it wasn't the Europe I knew. Besides learning about old man sports," Molly teased her, "what else did you do?"

She tossed the ball and only out of sheer luck nudged one of Jane's out of the way.

"I spent most of my time skiing in Switzerland but I learned that I'm a city girl. I really liked my time in Geneva." Jane said. "Dean and I spent some time in Milan, too."

"Yeah, I'm a city girl, too. I like the pace and energy of the city. I miss Chicago a lot." Molly didn't mind the Inn and its slower pace, but she did miss the activities of the city.

"I think it's the variety of things to do and you're right, the energy of it." Jane sipped at her beer. "It will take getting used to the Inn again." She chuckled, "and that's not something I thought I'd say. I never thought I'd have to get 'used' to something."

"It's nice to have something that you can get used to."

Molly looked at her, wondering something. "Did any memories come out? I mean I know it wasn't our reality but did anything trip a memory for you?"

Jane shook her head. "Not really. I had flashes of being in woods with people I don't know when I was in a forest. But I think it was because of being in trees rather than being in trees in Switzerland."

Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_illfighting 2018-07-15 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh it's on." Dean said when he arrived to where Jane was. They'd played a couple of times at the hotel at Lake Como. It had actually been fun, and reminded him a little of pool. Sure you didn't sink anything into a hole, but you had to understand how to knock balls out of the way.

"Miss Lorenzo's beer already don't you?" He took a sip of the beer from the gathering. "So what are we playing for? If we were on our own instead of a public place I'd say strip bocce." Dean winked at her.

[personal profile] st_artingpoint 2018-07-15 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh, I didn't think being in public would matter to you." Jane teased and tossed one of the balls toward Dean. "How about winner chooses? And, yeah I do miss that good microbrew."

"Hey, I'm game if you are." Dean tugged at the hem of his shirt with a smirk, "and winner chooses works for me." He pulled a coin out of his pocket, "heads or tails?"
st_artingpoint: (smiling)

Re: Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_artingpoint 2018-07-17 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Tails." Jane grabbed the coin mid-air with a smirk and slapped it on her own wrist. She lifted her hand for him to see, "heads. Guess you go first."

Re: Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_illfighting 2018-07-17 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Starting off as a winner." Dean tossed the ball and it landed perfectly next to the white one with just a little tap. He turned to Jane with an arched brow in challenge.

Re: Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_artingpoint 2018-07-17 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"It depends on where you end up." Jane returned easily and then rolled her bocce ball that knocked his out of the way. Hers wasn't close, but it was closer than Dean's.

"See what I mean?"

Re: Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_illfighting 2018-07-18 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah I do." Dean slid his gaze over to Jane and smirked. Without even looking he tossed his ball knocking hers out of the way. "Just like that."

Re: Jane and Dean

[personal profile] st_artingpoint 2018-07-18 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
With that move, Jane realized that she was in fact competitive. "Oh, you're on." She looked at the field and gauged where to place the bocce ball it perfectly knocked Dean's out of the way.

[personal profile] st_illfighting 2018-07-20 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nice." Dean acknowledged that move. "It might be a close game." There was a spark in his eyes at how competitive she just became. It was fun.

Re: Jane and Dean

Jane went for it, but she missed the ball. Her other ball was still the closest but she hadn't knocked his further back. "Still the closest."
