[GP] Food for the soul

Carlos hated being back at the hotel. He had begun by trying to access the Nevernever but that had totally failed, then caught up with Buffy to go and visit both London and Edinburgh, for varying reasons, and the rest of the time he had headed to Spain - he may have been well travelled, but rarely got time to be a tourist - but his time relaxing and finding out about Spain had been unceremoniously cut short when he woke up and found himself back at the hotel. For a few moments he lay there, utterly fed up, and just feeling incredibly homesick.

That only lasted a few minutes; after that he was a man on a mission.

He hunted out Caroline, and had a long chat with her. Plans were set. Time to cook up a storm. They'd missed 4th July, this could serve as a belated celebration, as well as a 'things ain't all bad here' event. Posters went up throughout the hotel, giving notice of a cook out. Everyone was encouraged to attend. What could be bad about this?

Grills were set up outside to cook up as much meat as they could hold; non-meat options were there as well for variety; salads prepared... a vast array of food to try and cheer up anyone who needed it. Carlos took his place at the grills, brandishing tools, turning the meat over just at the right point.

All that was needed now was people to attend.

Quill was still getting used to two Alecs and two Peters. When Dean approached, Quill had to suddenly assess who it was. Seeing no scowl or fist-thrown, this had to be Dean.

"Nice array." Quill said with his own upnod. "It's important to have a balanced plate."

"Exactly." Dean couldn't agree more, "though an unbalanced plate with more dessert than anything isn't a bad thing either. Name's Dean." He introduced himself, even though he'd seen this guy around, they'd never met.

"Quill. But most people call me Star-Lord." He replied with a nod. "And you're right. Desserts pretty key. Rocket says I'm getting soft around the middle, but I don't see it. I can still kick bad guy's asses."

Dean snickered, "I'm sorry, did you say Star-Lord? And you let them?" He also had to search his mind for who or what Rocket was, then remembered it was the talking racoon. "Kicking bad guy's asses requires a lot of energy which is why you should eat a lot of food."

It was logical to him, but Dean was a bit biased.

"Uh, yeah," He said, as if to say duh. "It's the best superhero name out there."

Quill was adamant about this point. He did not understand why Alec and now Dean seemed to think Star-Lord wasn't the more kick-ass name in the galaxy.

"And you're right. You need energy to save the day," He said. "I keep telling Rocket that, but he won't listen. He's stubborn that way."

Dean thought Batman was the best superhero name out there, but that was a given. Maybe this guy didn't have a Batman comic in his world. That would suck.

"How did you and uh Rocket meet?" Dean thought it was freaky as shit that a raccoon talked. It creeped him out like the Snuggle Fabric Softner Bear.

"He was trying to capture me." Quill replied easily. "There was a bounty out on my head. So he and Groot, another one on my team now, tried to get me while I was on a job trying to get this orb. And my now girlfriend was trying to steal the orb from me and... well, we all basically got arrested and thrown into jail. Then bonded. You know how it is."

"Yeah I do." Dean actually did. "How much was the bounty?" He smirked, "never had a bounty but I was on the FBI's most wanted list."

True it was actually his and Sam's Leviathan clones but he still had made the list. He was counting it.

"40,000 Units." He said proudly, lifting his chin. "Which is a lot of money... not sure how it would translate to Earth money."

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"Definitely would be more in American dollars." He said. "What did you do to get on the FBI list?"

"Impersonating a Federal agent for starters." Dean smirked and took a bite of his food. "Then there's credit card fraud and armed robbery." The last one was to get caught and tossed in prison so he and Sam could work a case.

"Wow. Nice rap sheet." He said approvingly. "I got arrested for theft too. Well, among other things. Thankful not to have to deal with that again, too. I'm pretty sure Earth prisons at least have the benefit of most, if not all, of the people there being human. There are some races out there - you do not want to be stuck in a shit-hole prison with. Trust me."

"You don't really want to be stuck in a shit hole prison, period." Dean agreed. "What were the other races like?" His only experience with other species was the space station and while some were dicks, they were't that bad.

"Well, let's see. You have the Chitarui - not fun people at all. Dark Elves aren't fun either. Skrulls, not fun. Titans are bitches." Quill listed, then paused. "You know, it sounds like there aren't any nice races out there. There are. Zehoberei's are nice - my girlfriend's one, actually. And one of my best friends is Flora Colossus - aka giant tree people."

Man, I miss Groot

"Most of the time they have the same sort of hang ups as us, you know?" He said. "But sometimes they whole race is basically born to be assholes."

Which to be fair, if you were tortured in hell for decades, you'd turn into a dick, too.

"So you have a space alien babe for a girlfriend, huh?" That might have been a fantasy for Dean once.

"Sure do." He said proudly. "She's beautiful and can kick-ass. And she's green.. one thing those Star Trek shows seemed to get right."

He missed Gamora a lot.

"What about you?" He asked. "You have anyone here on your radar?"

"There's a lot of hot women here." Dean said as a way of a non-answer and then relented, "but yeah." He smirked, "have you seen the smoking hot brunette with tattoos everywhere?"

And they were everywhere.

"I've seen some with tattoos, but I'm going to guess you mean the one with them all over." He said, thinking of Jane. "That's a lot of dedication to the Ink. It's impressive, really."

"She's got a strong will." He smiled slightly, "which can sometimes be a pain in the ass." When her strong will collides with his.

"Oh man, I hear that," he said with a nod. "Gamora? Stubborn as hell. And it took her forever to admit that she likes me, even though I knew. And she could definitely kick my butt."

He smiled fondly. Quill was enamored.

Quill lifted a deviled egg. He had no room to hold a beer which was unfortunate.

God, I miss Gamora

"You know, you're a lot more pleasant than your counter-part." He said, meaning Alec.

"I can be a dick, too." Dean admitted. "Alec just doesn't have my charm yet." He was teasing of course, Alec had exactly his charm but Quill wouldn't know that.

"Who knows?" Quill replied with palms up and an incredulous shake of his head. "I literally just got to this place and I had a fist in my face. I mean, it isn't the first time, granted, but I like my face. Thankfully the people here with magic healed me."
