[GP] SNOW DAY

Thor and Loki got an early start, because there was a lot to do. Almost two weeks to the day since their first small-but-successful experiment with snow, Loki was confident that he'd improved enough for a bigger experiment. Still snow, because Thor wanted it and it did seem like a decent way to try something big-ish without causing Loki unnecessary grief with the other residents. (It was an arrival day, so there would perhaps be some grief with any new arrivals, but that was entirely acceptable.)

It was before dawn when they went out into the grounds. Thor called up clouds and loaded them with water so they hung low and heavy, covering the sky so that the sun, when it rose, wouldn't ruin the event. Loki took his frost giant shape and staff (now very familiar to his hand) and concentrated on dropping the temperature. Just around the Inn and grounds, but that was enough to be serious effort.

When the snow first started, the flakes were big and wet, and melted as soon as they hit the ground, which was still on the warm side. As they melted, they cooled the ground. After an hour or so, the flakes were smaller and more powdery - real snow, not glorified slush - and they were starting to stick to the ground.

By mid-morning, the Inn and grounds were covered with a thick layer of snow, and it continued to fall.

Meanwhile, indoors and inspired by the snow, Hurley and Xavin decided to try and make cookies. Cooking together was fun, since neither of them exactly knew what they were doing apart from 'follow the recipe', but since the point was 'try to make cookies' they ended up with a lot of cookies. Sugar cookies, gingerbread, all kinds.

There was no way they'd be able to eat all of them.

Instead, they loaded them onto trays and hauled them to the cafe, then brought out various frostings and candies for decorating. This had been completely intentional. Completely.

Hook & Coby

Raven black wings were dusted with snow where they wrapped around Coby almost like a cloak. The wings were a little chilly, but inside them he was warm. Ish.

The guy looked vaguely familiar, but that wasn't too uncommon for Coby and his swiss cheese memory, and he was already answering before he made the connection. "Freaky stuff happens around here. At least a snow day can be fun," he said, looking more closely to reassure himself the guy wasn't Val. He wasn't, but the resemblance was strong enough he wondered if Jag had run into the guy yet.

"I suppose." He doesn't have a lot of experience wit snow, but he'll make the most of it. "What kind of freaky stuff?"

Freaky, Coby reminded himself, depended a lot on where people were from and what was normal to them. His wings shifted, rise, twitch, drop, in a sort of shrug.

"Portals opening to different places. Attack of the walking dead. People turning into their Halloween costumes. I even heard about some kind of lust magic floating around one Valentine's Day, that made people kiss whoever was closest... or more than just kiss."

Seeing someone sporting wings is about the weirdest of those things to him, although thankfully he doesn't have personal experience with most of them. Just one, really, and enough of that to last a lifetime.

"So we didn't get here through a portal." He hadn't thought that they did, because it didn't feel like going through a portal, and he would have had to know where he wanted to go to use a portal.

"Not like the ones that open up sometimes." That much Coby was pretty sure of. "But other than that, don't ask me how they work, or how we get here. I'm just a musician."

Just a musician who was walking around with wings, and even if they'd gotten to feel natural to Coby most of the time, that didn't mean other people were used to them, and he hadn't missed the guy noticing them. Oh well, somebody having wings or flying still wouldn't be all that freaky around here.

"I'm Coby. I didn't say," he offered, along with his hand.

"Where I come from, musicians are as likely as anyone else to use a portal. Which is to say, not very, because it's becoming harder to find a way to make them." Which he really wishes they would stop needing to do.

He may have noticed the wings, but they're hardly the only strange thing he's seen in his life. Although wings on people is new, he has met a few fairies over the years.

"Killian."

He'd been pretty sure the guy wasn't another Val with more eccentric fashion sense, but there was still an unknotting of concern that loosed when the guy shared his name. The last thing Jag needed was to run into another double of someone he'd dated. A lookalike would be bad enough.

"But see, you come from a world where some people know how to make them. As far as I know – and there's plenty I don't when it comes to magic and faeries and shit – that doesn't happen where I'm from."

"Anyone can make and use them, if they have the right item. It's just the items that are getting harder to find." But not impossible, if you're lucky or know the right people. "Not everyone where I'm from has the ability to use magic."
