[For Jack] It's best when you improvise

Three full months into life at the Madonna Inn, Phryne had grown bored with her wardrobe, the food, the reading selection, virtually everything, in fact, except the companionship. She didn't like to think what would have become of her without Dot and Jack in particular. Still, close quarters and unvaried society did little good for her nerves, so she waited only long enough to ascertain that people could return to the hotel from the city on the other side before charging out to investigate.
She'd met a charming young man at the Midnight Carnival, and after a pleasant evening and more than pleasant night, he'd spent what he'd called the Day of Kosal, showing her around the city. They'd made a visit to the great temple of Bram-pee Sodn, the Seven Breasts, and then he'd paid homage to hers a second time before she'd bid him a sweet (but decisive) adieu and returned to the inn.
It was the morning of eighth day the portal had been opened when she arose, dressed in a Chinese-inspired silk tunic over a pair of lightweight trousers and a hat, and packed up several of the garments that were so last season. She tossed a decent-sized diamond, and her pistol of course, into a handbag, and then went in search of Jack.
She found him eating breakfast in the cafe and promptly dropped herself into the empty seat beside him. "Good morning, Jack," she chimed in clear good spirits then leaned over to kiss his cheek.
