Three full months into life at the Madonna Inn, Phryne had grown bored with her wardrobe, the food, the reading selection, virtually everything, in fact, except the companionship. She didn't like to think what would have become of her without Dot and Jack in particular. Still, close quarters and unvaried society did little good for her nerves, so she waited only long enough to ascertain that people could return to the hotel from the city on the other side before charging out to investigate.

She'd met a charming young man at the Midnight Carnival, and after a pleasant evening and more than pleasant night, he'd spent what he'd called the Day of Kosal, showing her around the city. They'd made a visit to the great temple of Bram-pee Sodn, the Seven Breasts, and then he'd paid homage to hers a second time before she'd bid him a sweet (but decisive) adieu and returned to the inn.

It was the morning of eighth day the portal had been opened when she arose, dressed in a Chinese-inspired silk tunic over a pair of lightweight trousers and a hat, and packed up several of the garments that were so last season. She tossed a decent-sized diamond, and her pistol of course, into a handbag, and then went in search of Jack.

She found him eating breakfast in the cafe and promptly dropped herself into the empty seat beside him. "Good morning, Jack," she chimed in clear good spirits then leaned over to kiss his cheek.

The full moon was coming soon in the Inn, and Angua was restless. Fortunately, there was an option now that hadn't been available before: that odd other world in the room. It was a lovely, warm, sunny place, and she enjoyed walking the streets well enough, but for some reason the restlessness didn't disappear when she put the other world behind her. In fact, it seemed worse.

As the sun set and the moon rose over Songrun, she learned why. The moon over the other world already was full. Completely.

Angua barely managed to get into an alley and stripped before the Change hit. Obscurely, it seemed better to lose her dress and sandals than destroy them.

With very canine panic at the sudden change in circumstances, she bolted immediately afterward, and between the unfamiliar smells and unfamiliar streets, she was completely lost.

Unable to find her way back to the Inn with her nose, increasingly less able to complete human reasoning, and unable to Change back into human shape because being a naked woman in public tended to be an awful idea, Angua simply roamed the streets, chasing carts, taking food from tables and market stalls, and generally blending in with the stray dog population as well as any very large, very golden wolf could.

((OOC: There's a golden wolf semi-terrorizing the streets of Songran. Feel free to go looking for her, get hired to deal with her, or just see her around!))

Last week, shopping had been hit and miss. This week, Regina knew when the markets would be open, where to find them, and what the traders would be interested in. She'd spent yesterday encouraging oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines to grow and picking them at just the right moment. Last night, there had been snap peas and green beans, zucchini, and tomatoes.

Before first light, she met Caroline at her slowly evolving hydroponics shed. They gathered up the fresh foods and carried them into town. Before most of the Inn had risen for breakfast, they'd finished bartering for sacks of rice, wheat, millet, hemp fiber, and salt. It was a beginning, at least, of things that would keep in the event of an emergency. Next week, they'd acquire glassware for canning, chickens, and ducks.

Satisfied with her haul, Regina freshened up and then went to retrieve Snow from the stables. She was unusually serene and smiling when she said, "There's a beautiful ruined city of temples. Come see it with me. You can even carry Rose Red openly."
