Unplanned and Spontaneous Travel - Open

One of the locals in Zermatt had recommended going to Geneva as well as some of the Swiss wineries for day trips. Another suggestion had been to do some hiking and ski trails into Northern Italy from the Matterhorn, so Jane had taken them up on those suggestions.

After spending time skiing on the Matterhorn, she took one of the trails into Breuil-Cervinia, Italy and had lunch at a small restaurant with a view of the Alps and after shopping she stopped at a lovely local bar to warm up with alcohol before heading back into Switzerland.

When Jane was ready for some more nightlife than the carless town of Zermatt offered, she headed by train into Geneva. It was something that she craved, that she didn’t know that she did until she experienced it. This was a side that she learned about herself, she actually liked the energy of the large cities, with time for relaxation back at Zermatt.

Jane had a flash of a memory, which was happening more frequently since the 'floodgates' had opened, of getting on another motorcycle. She wondered if she could ride one solo. She slid on behind Dean and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"I think I've done this before. Not here, but been on a bike."

That intrigued him. He could easily see Jane on a bike and it was hot. "Well maybe I'll be the passenger on the way back if you feel confident to drive it." Dean grinned over his shoulder.

It didn't take much time to get to the other side, but he might have accidentally on purpose taken a couple of wrong turns. It was nice to feel her body pressed to his and he took advantage of it.

"We're here." It was a small family run restaurant with very fresh seafood as it was right on the lake.

It wasn't as rustic as she pictured his taste, but it was a place she could picture Dean. Jane kicked off the bike and removed her helmet. "It looks nice and it smells --" well fishy from the fishing boats nearby but she could also smell the fish being smoked. "It smells fresh and natural."

Dean snickered as he took off his helmet and tucked it under his arm. "You can say it. It stinks, but that's how you know it's going to be fresh." He nodded hello to the man by the gate to the beach side seating. "That's Lorenzo, he and his family run the place."

Jane thought it was interesting that Dean already knew the family's name and remembered it. "Hi." She greeted the other person as they headed toward the beach tables. "I'm looking forward to trying the smoked fish." Jane said with a nod toward the area that the aroma was coming from.

When it came to good food, Dean always made a point to get to know the people that cooked it and served it. "He also has a great craft beer." He turned his attention to Lorenzo. "You change your mind about selling it by the case?"

Lorenzo chuckled, "for you, Dean I might make an exception just to see how you'd carry it on your motorbike." He winked at Jane and escorted them to a table closest to the water.

"Smart ass." Dean answered with a smirk. "I'd let Jane drive the bike and I'd balance the case on my head."

Jane laughed as she slid into the seat, "good to see where your priorities are. Now, I'm looking forward to trying the beer." She looked at Lorenzo. "I'm going to play it dangerous and not look at the menu. Just bring me whatever you think I'd like and the beer."

"Works for me." Dean agreed with Jane's choice, "surprise us. Just not squid for me." Sure they might call it calamari but it was still squid, just smaller size.

He turned his attention to Jane. "adventurous with food, huh?"

"It's easy to be adventurous when you have no idea what you like and what you don't." Jane said with a light laugh, "but I've learned when it comes to seafood, I kind of like it all. Even your squid."

Dean pulled a face. "Now see, I would have said you were the girl of my dreams until you brought up squid." He was teasing - mostly. "How can you eat that. At least it's not sushi." Which Dean saw as eating bait.

Jane laughed, "I've not had sushi but I have heard of it. I'd try it at least once to see what it tasted like. I might hate it, but you never know. And I enjoy calamari, but to be honest it's only enjoyment from a memory, I haven't eaten it since I've been at the Inn."

"Okay, I can live with that." Dean teased her. "It doesn't count until you eat it fresh. And I can't really throw stone, I ate a turducken. Turkey, duck and chicken all in one."

Jane made an equally disgusted face that he'd made. It didn't even sound good. "Okay, you definitely can't cast stones, that sounds gross. All on their own, fine though I don't think I've ever had duck but together, not really."

"Yeah not a fan of duck and I wouldn't ever eat it again." Dean admitted, remembering how it was connected to Dick Roman. "It sounded good at the time."

Before he could add anything more, Lorenzo arrived with the promised beer and an appetizer of calamari for Jane and for Dean, Ravioli stuffed with fish.

"Seriously, man?" Dean said to him, but there was humor in his tone. "I'm going to need an extra beer to wash that from my brain." He jerked his chin in the direction of Jane's plate.

Jane deliberately picked up one of the fried squid and dipped it into the sauce before popping the whole thing in her mouth and chewing with a smirk.

Lorenzo chuckled, "I like your friend, and I'll bring you another beer."

Once Jane had washed the food down with the beer, she said, "sorry, I couldn't resist that and wow that is good beer."

Dean laughed at Jane. "Smart ass." He picked up his own fried ravioli and popped it into his mouth as she had done. "And I know right? Definitely worth having you drive the motorcycle while I balance the keg on my head."

"It might be worth it just to see that." Jane laughed and turned her attention out over the lake thinking of her conversation with Liz in Geneva. "I told Liz that I wasn't going back." She looked back at Dean. "I mean, like the space station, we went back on our own, but this is different. I'm staying here if the door closes without me. I've heard that the Inn yanks you back, but that could just be 'legend'."

Dean was tempted, he had a car and an open road, but the Inn had Sam and his mom, there was no way he'd leave that behind.

"There's a lot that this place has." He agreed, "but Sam and mom are at the Inn." He thought about it for a minute, "if you do stay and it doesn't yank you back, buy a classic car. They're a hell of a lot better than the modern ones and I freely admit I'm biased."

Jane relaxed at his answer and smiled, "yeah? what kind of car do you suggest? I thought you'd tell me to keep the bike."

"Oh you should definitely keep the bike. Hot chick on a bike." Dean winked and made a happy sound. "But for classic you can't go wrong with a De Tomaso Pantera." The fact that it looked a bit like his baby might be why he liked the Italian car.

"I have absolutely no idea what kind of car that is, but I'll look it up if I stay." Jane didn't really care about cars, but she didn't tell Dean that. "I might just travel through Europe with the rail pass until I figure out where I want to land."

"Or just keep traveling." Dean said and popped another ravioli in his mouth. "That's what Sam and I do. Being at the inn is the longest I've stayed in one place since my dad became a Hunter."

"What's it like traveling all the time? I mean I get that's what you're used to, but now that you've been in one spot longer than normal, do you still like it?" She was curious.

"Yeah, I do. I like the freedom." He had a thoughtful expression for a couple of beats before he added, "but I think it's the cases more than anything. Helping people. I miss that a lot here. Would I give it up to have this time with my mom? Hell yes. But I do miss it."

Jane wished she had a connection like he did to his family. Molly was really family for her. She was the first person she'd met when waking up and the only constant in the life that she knew. Yet, she would give that up to stay in the otherworld.

"I have a flash of a memory of an adult male reaching for my hand when I was little and walking downstairs. I think it's my father but I don't know that. I don't really know who my parents were only what it said in the files on the laptop."
